Mineralisation of developmentally hypomineralised human enamel in vitro.

Molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is a problematic and costly condition. Caries remineralising agents are often recommended for MIH management despite the lack of evidence that these lesions have the capacity for increasing their mineral content. Following surface layer removal ± NaOCl pre-treatment and 14-day exposure to a CPP-ACFP solution at pH 5.5, MIH lesions were analysed using transverse microradiography and polarised light microscopy. Lesions were highly variable but treatment with the remineralising solution increased mineral content (1,828 ± 461 vol% min · µm, %R = 17.7 ± 5.7) a

Electron probe micro-analysis for subsurface demineralization and remineralization of dental enamel.

A quantitative study of fluoride distribution profile changes in dental enamel was conducted by means of electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA). Fluoride-deposited hydroxyapatite powders were chosen as fluoride standards, and analytical conditions were optimized. The lower limit of detection for fluoride was estimated to be 270 ppm, with an accelerating voltage of 5 kV, a specimen current of 40 nA, and a counting time of 40 seconds. Fluoride profiles in fluoride-treated dental enamel, which exhibited intact surface layers and subsurface demineralization, were determined. The results were also co

[Induced remineralization of carious dentin. Electronic microprobe analysis].

Our electron microprobe studies show the preferential incorporation in vitro of tin and fluorure into carious dentin. These ions do penetrate only into carious dentin through the body of the lesion. These ions do not progress through the sclerotic dentin barrier, when it exists which tend to demonstrate their affinity for demineralized tissues. Results of microprobe analysis may suggest the hypothesis of a crystalline arrangement as the product of reaction between residual apatite in carious dentin with stannous fluoride. A new crystalline phase could occur within the carious zone, up to the s

A single-section model for enamel de- and remineralization studies. 1. The effects of different Ca/P ratios in remineralization solutions.

A prerequisite for the accurate measurement of differences between pre- and post-experimental mineral profiles in single sections by quantitative microradiography is a high degree of reproducibility of the analytical procedures. We have determined the reproducibility of both the production and analyses of microradiographs. Lesions were made in seven single bovine enamel sections and radiographed three times. Each microradiograph was then analyzed on three different occasions by use of an image analysis system. This resulted in only small standard deviations in the lesion parameters. The method

Effect of nanohydroxyapatite paste after different pretreatment techniques on remineralization and color change of white spot lesions in children: a randomized control study.

BACKGROUND: White spot lesions (WSLs) are initial caries caused by early demineralization. Nanohydroxyapatite (NHA) paste is one of the most recent non-fluoridated remineralizing agents; however, few clinical studies have reported its remineralizing effect on such lesions. The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the remineralization and color change of WSL after NHA alone was used versus NHA pretreatment with either microabrasion or sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and no treatment as a negative control. METHODS: Twenty children aged 10 to 14 years with 40 teeth affected with WSL; were r

Clinically Oriented Oral Environment-Triggered Underwater Adhesives for Root Caries Treatment through Dentinal Tubule Occlusion and Remineralization.

The application of silk fibroin (SF) hydrogels is often limited by their brittleness; on the other hand, increasing ductility can lead to insufficient strength of the hydrogel. These drawbacks make it difficult to apply to treat root surface caries, which are continuously exudated by crevicular fluid and have special locations and shapes. Herein, we design an underwater adhesive hydrogel with a fluid-solid spontaneous transition triggered by water for root caries treatment. Guanidine hydrochloride (GH), amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles (ACP), and tannic acid (TA) are applied to coasse

Remineralization and repair of enamel surface by biomimetic Zn-carbonate hydroxyapatite containing toothpaste: a comparative in vivo study.

Consumption of acidic foods and drinks and other factors that cause enamel wear are responsible for the daily enamel loss and degradation. Use of some toothpastes that have been showed to possess different properties of remineralisation and/or repair of the enamel surface may help to protect tooth enamel. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the use of toothpaste containing Zn-carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA) nanostructured microcrystals may exert remineralization/repair effects of the enamel surface. Two groups of patients, aged between 18 and 75 years, used a Zn-CHA nanocrystals-based
