Effects of increased surgical trauma on rates of tooth movement and apical root resorption in foxhound dogs.

PURPOSE: To experimentally determine the effects of increased surgical trauma on the rates of tooth movement and apical root resorption. Two surgical techniques for rapid protraction of multi-rooted teeth in foxhound dogs immediately following premolar extraction were compared. METHODS: Split-mouth design to randomly assign two surgical techniques [periodontal ligament distraction (RAP side) and a modified form of dentoalveolar distraction (RAP+ side)] to the maxillary quadrants. First premolars were extracted, and second premolars were protracted 0.5 mm per day for 15 days using a custom mad

Examination of Irrigant Flow on a Tooth With Internal Root Resorption by Using a Computational Fluid Dynamics Model.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the flow of an endodontic irrigant in a single-rooted tooth with internal root resorption (IRR). METHODS: A simulation of a prepared central incisor with internal root resorption was created and irrigation with a 30-G needle was performed. The fluid pattern of the irrigant was evaluated using a Computational Fluid Dynamics model. In addition, the effects of the needle-insertion depth in the root canal and the size of root resorption on the fluid flow and the wall shear stress (WSS) values were assessed. The IRR was placed immediately below the canal orifice.

Root resection under the surgical field employed for extraction of impacted tooth and management of external resorption.

This case report illustrates determination of prognosis and immediate resection carried out, before completing the endodontic therapy, during the surgery employed for managing a nonperiodontal problem. This case showed external pressure resorption in the distobuccal root of maxillary second molar caused by the impingement of impacted third molar. Extraction of third molar was decided when healing was not seen, despite initiating endodontic therapy in second molar. Following elevation of flap and extraction of third molar, the poor prognosis due to severe bone loss around the resorbed root was

Tooth eruption and bone resorption: experimental investigation of the ia (osteopetrotic) rat as a model for studying their relationships.

The osteopetrotic (ia) rat was examined as an experimental model for studying the dependence of tooth eruption on bone resorption. In ia rats eruption of incisors and first molars was rare and eruption of second and third molars was reduced and delayed. Autoradiographic studies of 3H-proline incorporation showed that delayed eruption was not due to reduced tooth formation. Microscopic study revealed distortion and failure of posterior growth of the apical ends of incisors, unresorbed bone blocking the eruption pathway for molars, and ankylosis of incisors and first molars to alveolar bone. Decellularized porcine pericardium supports periodontal ligament tissue regeneration and attenuates root resorption in a tooth replantation model.

Tooth replantation is often compromised by the loss of periodontal ligament (PDL) integrity, leading to inflammatory root resorption and treatment failure. In this study, we investigated the regenerative potential of decellularized porcine pericardium (DPP), manufactured by either high hydrostatic pressure or surfactant decellularization. After evaluating the structural integrity and mechanical characteristics of the DPP, it was wrapped around the roots of extracted rat teeth to observe the biological response. PDL cells migrated onto the surface of DPP, establishing connection between DPP and

External apical root resorption in orthodontic tooth movement: the risk factors and clinical suggestions from experts' consensus.

External apical root resorption is among the most common risks of orthodontic treatment, and it cannot be completely avoided and predicted. Risk factors causing orthodontic root resorption can generally be divided into patient- and treatment-related factors. Root resorption that occurs during orthodontic treatment is usually detected by radiographical examination. Mild or moderate root absorption usually does no obvious harm, but close attention is required. When severe root resorption occurs, it is generally recommended to suspend the treatment for 3 months for the cementum to be restored. To

Glass Ionomer Subgingival Matrix Technique to Restore a Tooth with Severe Root Resorption for Implant Site Development.

Here, we present the multidisciplinary, patient-specific management of a patient with severe external root resorption and bone loss in a maxillary anterior tooth. The tooth was provisionally noninvasively restored with glass ionomer subgingival matrix in preparation for forced orthodontic extrusion, papillary preservation, and implant placement. This approach enables clinicians to control infection within and around the resorbed tooth and then to use it as an anchor for slow forced tooth eruption to correct bone and mucogingival deformities. Aesthetic and functional outcomes were clinically an

Chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia attenuates root resorption following delayed tooth replantation by upregulating OPG/RANKL signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND: Tooth avulsion, a severe dental trauma prevalent among adolescents, is commonly treated with delayed replantation. However, this procedure is frequently complicated by root resorption, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Given that adolescent patients are not candidates for implant therapy, strategies to mitigate root resorption and prolong the survival of replanted teeth are critically needed. This study aimed to investigate the effect of chronic intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (CIHH) on root resorption following delayed tooth replantation and to elucidate its potential mechan

Quantitative analysis and clinical determinants of orthodontically induced root resorption using automated tooth segmentation from CBCT imaging.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR) is difficult to assess accurately using traditional 2D imaging due to distortion and low sensitivity. While CBCT offers more precise 3D evaluation, manual segmentation remains labor-intensive and prone to variability. Recent advances in deep learning enable automatic, accurate tooth segmentation from CBCT images. This study applies deep learning and CBCT technology to quantify OIRR and analyze its risk factors, aiming to improve assessment accuracy, efficiency, and clinical decision-making. METHOD: This study retrospectively analyzed

Bisphosphonates with high bone-resorption-capacity promote osteonecrosis of the jaw development after tooth extraction in mice.

INTRODUCTION: Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) is a condition marked by osteonecrosis of the jaw bone and other symptoms seen following invasive surgical procedures in patients administered bone-modifying agents. Once disease develops, a patient's ADL levels are significantly compromised. However, the pathogenesis of this disease is not clearly understood. Bisphosphonates (BPs) are bone resorption inhibitors commonly used to treat osteoporosis. Although not confirmed, it is generally believed that MRONJ risk is higher in the presence of injectable rather than oral formulatio

Dental Pathology of the Iberian Lynx ( Lynx pardinus), Part II: Periodontal Disease, Tooth Resorption, and Oral Neoplasia.

The Iberian lynx is an endangered felid that has been subject to an intensive, ongoing conservation program to save it from extinction. Identification of dental pathologies could play an important role in the survival of this endangered species. The prevalence of periodontal bone loss, tooth resorption, and oral neoplasia was evaluated in this species. Skulls of 88 adult specimens of the Iberian lynx ( Lynx pardinus) from the Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC), Seville, Spain, were examined macroscopically and full-mouth dental radiographs of all specimens were performed. Different stages of

Single Local Injection of Epigallocatechin Gallate-Modified Gelatin Attenuates Bone Resorption and Orthodontic Tooth Movement in Mice.

Osteoclastic bone resorption enables orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in orthodontic treatment. Previously, we demonstrated that local epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) injection successfully slowed the rate of OTM; however, repeat injections were required. In the present study, we produced a liquid form of EGCG-modified gelatin (EGCG-GL) and examined the properties of EGCG-GL with respect to prolonging EGCG release, NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) activation, osteoclastogenesis inhibition, bone destruction, and OTM. We found EGCG-GL both prolonged the release of EGCG and induced the expression of
