When to Trust Epigenetic Clocks: Avoiding False Positives in Aging Interventions.

Epigenetic clocks have emerged as potential biomarkers of aging due to their association with morbidity and mortality. They have recently gained traction as outcome measurements for anti-aging interventions. However, as the number of new epigenetic clocks continues to grow, different clocks may not agree on the effect of an intervention. This raises the question of when researchers can trust epigenetic clock results. In this study, we find that when extending previously published single-clock intervention studies to include additional clock models, no additional clocks reach statistical signif

Vaccine Injury Compensation, COVID-19 Vaccine Claim Migration, and Public Trust.

I evaluated the public health governance implications of moving COVID-19 vaccine injury claims from the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and identified safeguards for the transition. I interpreted US Health Resources and Services Administration data as of April 1, 2026, with governing statutes, regulations, Federal Register materials, and previous scholarship. Migration could involve prospective coverage, transfer of pending claims, revival of denied claims, or retroactive eligibility, each with different access and fiscal conseque

Enhancing trust in healthcare robotics: implications derived from medical professionals' perspectives.

PURPOSE: Trust is essential for effective teamwork in healthcare, enhancing staff performance, psychological well-being, and the quality of care. With rising workloads and global nursing staff shortages, technologies like robotic systems become increasingly relevant. This contribution examines trust-influencing factors in human-robot interaction in the medical domain. METHODS: To identify implications for our robotic system KIRA-med, we conducted a structured literature search in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and Scopus were searched from January 2015 to December 202

The Czech Conundrum: Institutional Trust Erosion and COVID-19 Pandemic Mortality.

UNLABELLED: Policy Points Institutional trust appears to constitute an essential component of pandemic preparedness. Czech excess mortality-49% higher than Austria's and approximately twice the European mean-illustrates that governance failures can undermine functional preparedness assets. The observed 8-10-week lag between trust decline and mortality divergence is consistent with a potential early-warning window. Regular monitoring of public trust may identify governance deterioration before preventable mortality escalates, thereby operationalizing trust as a measurable governance outcome. Co

Trust in government institutions and influenza vaccine acceptance among U.S. adults.

Seasonal influenza remains a persistent public health burden in the United States despite effective vaccines. Adult vaccination coverage consistently falls below national targets, suggesting that factors beyond access and individual risk perception influence uptake. Within the social and political context of vaccine decision-making, trust in government institutions is a key determinant of vaccination behavior. This study examined the association between trust in government institutions and influenza vaccine acceptance and intent among U.S. adults. We conducted a nationally representative cross

Increasing trust in science through a "Do Your Own Research" intervention.

Recent years have been marked by an erosion of public trust in science, public health, and vaccines. Little is known about evidence-based strategies to restore trust. We first aimed to instill a feeling of vulnerability in participants by asking three questions about global development, which are commonly answered incorrectly. We then guided participants through a peer-reviewed study on the effect of COVID-19 vaccines on fertility and asked six easy questions. We hypothesized that people would be empowered to believe the conclusions of the study and with that, trust would increase. We found th

Community event-based surveillance as trust infrastructure for Bundibugyo Ebola response.

The 2026 outbreak of Ebola caused by Bundibugyo virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda highlights persistent gaps in centralized outbreak surveillance, particularly in settings affected by insecurity, displacement, cross-border mobility, community mistrust, and limited disease-specific countermeasures. Community event-based surveillance (CEBS) offers a practical approach for strengthening case-finding while building trust. CEBS relies on trained, equipped, and compensated community members to report trigger events that may indicate hidden transmission, linking local a

Data privacy governance and employee trust: evidence from Vietnamese commercial banks.

INTRODUCTION: This study examines the structural mechanisms through which digital ethics governance and data protection strategies influence employee trust and adaptive performance in the commercial banking sector. METHODS: A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed, collecting data from 402 bank employees in Vietnam. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and PLSpredict were used to test the hypotheses and evaluate predictive capabilities. RESULTS: Results reveal that digital ethics governance and data protection significantly enhance organizational justice. Or

Do Spanish surgeons trust hip stabilizing devices to prevent prosthetic dislocation?

INTRODUCTION: One of the most common complications that can occur after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is dislocation. Prosthetic dislocation is described as one of the main causes of revision surgery. After a first episode most studies conclude that conservative treatment is acceptable. However, there is no consensus on a standardised treatment to help prevent further episodes. The goal of our study was to describe the preferences and reliance in clinical practice of hip-stabilizing devices among Spanish hip surgeons. It was hypothesized that no clear consensus exists among Spanish hip surgeons

Implementing immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) was first introduced into NICE guidelines in 2017. In this approach, patients undergo cataract surgery on both eyes on the same day. Although increasingly popular, only 0.5% of all cataract operations nationally are performed using this approach. We redesigned our service to routinely offer ISBCS and are now one of the leading NHS providers of ISBCS in the UK. We audited our cataract operations in 2022 and report our initial experiences with ISBCS here. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We redesigned our cataract service to routin

Trust in Machine Learning Driven Clinical Decision Support Tools Among Otolaryngologists.

BACKGROUND: Machine learning driven clinical decision support tools (ML-CDST) are on the verge of being integrated into clinical settings, including in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. In this study, we investigated whether such CDST may influence otolaryngologists' diagnostic judgement. METHODS: Otolaryngologists were recruited virtually across the United States for this experiment on human-AI interaction. Participants were shown 12 different video-stroboscopic exams from patients with previously diagnosed laryngopharyngeal reflux or vocal fold paresis and asked to determine the presence

How perceived lack of benevolence harms trust of artificial intelligence management.

As organizations continue to supplement and replace human management with artificial intelligence (AI), it is essential that we understand the factors that influence employees' trust in AI management. Across one preregistered field study, where we survey 400 delivery riders in Mainland China, and three preregistered experiments (total N = 2,350), we find that AI management is perceived as less benevolent than human management. Given that benevolence is an important antecedent of trust in leaders, this perception has a negative effect on trust in AI management, even when controlling for perceiv

Can you trust this source? Advice taking in borderline personality disorder.

Research suggests that patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) share a range of cognitive biases with patients with psychosis. As the disorder often manifests in dysfunctional social interactions, we assumed associated reasoning styles would be exaggerated in a social setting. For the present study, we applied the Judge-Advisor System by asking participants to provide initial estimates of a person's age and presumed hostility based on a portrait photo. Afterwards, we presented additional cues/advice in the form of responses by anonymous previous respondents. Participants could revi

How Adolescents Trust Health Information on Social Media: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Given the potential for social media to spread health misinformation, it is important to understand how trusts impact adolescents' engagement with health content on social media. OBJECTIVE: To explore the concept of trust when adolescents (13-18 years) engage with health information on social media. Five relevant databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, ERIC, and CINAHL) were systematically searched alongside Google Scholar and reference lists of included papers. Studies were included if they examined adolescents' trust when engaging with health information on social media. STUDY AP

Accessibility, Agency, and Trust: A Study About Equestrians' (Online) Learning Repertoires.

Todays' online media landscape facilitates communication on how sports practitioners can develop in their sport. Hence, sports and educational institutions need to recognize the increased role of the individual as "a facilitator of knowledge" through information and communications technology (ICT). For sport organizations and educational institutions to effectively reach out with knowledge and research, they need to know how individuals assess, value, and trust information sources. This article aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of how the traditional culture in equestrianism mee

Building trust with people receiving supported employment and housing first services.

OBJECTIVES: The developing literature on supported employment for people who have a mental illness and recent history of homelessness has yet to explore the relationship between clients and their employment specialists. The objective of the present article is to explore and understand the way in which service users experience supported employment services and how these experiences differ from those receiving usual services. METHOD: Semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted with 27 people from a randomized controlled trial of supported employment, 14 receiving supported employment,

Trust versus paranoia: abnormal response to social reward in psychotic illness.

Psychosis is characterized by an elementary lack of trust in others. Trust is an inherently rewarding aspect of successful social interactions and can be examined using neuroeconomic paradigms. This study was aimed at investigating the underlying neural basis of diminished trust in psychosis. Functional magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from 20 patients with psychosis and 20 healthy control subjects during two multiple-round trust games; one with a cooperative and the other with a deceptive counterpart. An a priori region of interest analysis of the right caudate nucleus, right tem
