Association of Catechol-O-methyltransferase val/met polymorphism with cognitive function in Gilles de la Tourette syndrome patients.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) is a kind of neuropsychiatric disorder with childhood onset. The cognitive dysfunction caused by GTS could affect the growth and learning of children and adolescents. The mechanism of cognitive functions was associated with dopaminergic system, thus we access the associations between polymorphism of some dopaminergic system-related genes including Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) met/val, Dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) exon III 48 bp VNTR (variable number of tandem repeats), Interleukin 1 (IL-1) Ra 86 bp and IL-1β exon 5, and cognitive functions in GTS pati

Cognitive dysfunction in people with eating disorders.

UNLABELLED: Using central nervous system (CNS) neuroimaging techniques, it was possible to identify structural changes in the brain associated with eating disorders. Due to the occurrence of organic changes, the search for the impact of these changes on the cognitive sphere was undertaken. Research to date suggests that people with eating disorders exhibit cognitive dysfunction. However, these results remain inconsistent. AIM: The aim of the study was to check whether people with eating disorders (anorexia nervosa and bulimia) have cognitive deficits. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 40 female partici

Impairment of motor dexterity in schizophrenia assessed by a novel finger movement test.

Schizophrenia is characterized by a series of serious mental disturbances, including social, cognitive, and emotional dysfunctions. Although motor dysfunctions as well as the cognitive impairments in schizophrenia have been noted since the era of Kraepelin, little attention has been paid to motor dysfunctions until recently. Here, we examined the characteristics of motor dysfunctions and their relationship to other cognitive functions in schizophrenia. Subjects were 27 patients who met the DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia and 49 healthy volunteers. A series of motor tests, i.e., pegboard, mir

Executive Functions in Alcohol Use Disorder: The Positive Role of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation-Prospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Executive functioning (EF) consists of basic components (inhibition, working memory [WM] and flexibility) and more complex components that depend on the proper functioning of the basic components. Deficits in EF are common in alcohol use disorder (AUD) and can impact treatment effectiveness and quality of life. This study examined the impact of neuropsychological rehabilitation (NR) on improving these functions. METHOD: A prospective observational cohort study was conducted in an AUD treatment unit, with three evaluation points: baseline and after 3 and 6 months. The study compa

Dissociation of ketamine effects on rule acquisition and rule implementation: possible relevance to NMDA receptor contributions to executive cognitive functions.

BACKGROUND: The demands of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) change with experience. This report contains two studies designed to examine N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor contributions to the executive components of WCST performance. These aspects of WCST performance figure more prominently in the initial completion of this task than in subsequent task repetitions in healthy populations. METHODS: In the first study, healthy subjects (n = 15) completed the WCST on two occasions separated by 1 week. In the second study, healthy subjects (n = 22) completed two test days spaced by approx

Effects of Parkinson disease on two putative nondeclarative learning tasks: probabilistic classification and gambling.

OBJECTIVE: To assess performance on two nondeclarative (implicit) memory tasks of Parkinson disease (PD) patients without dementia in the earlier or later stages of the disease (Hoehn and Yahr Scale scores of 1-2.5 or 3-4, respectively). BACKGROUND: Different subtypes of nondeclarative memory appear to depend on different components of frontostriatal circuitry. Performance on a probabilistic classification learning (PCL) task was impaired by striatal damage (eg, in PD or Huntington disease) but not by circumscribed frontal lobe damage. On the other hand, performance on the Iowa Gambling Task

Effect of Turner's syndrome and X-linked imprinting on cognitive status: analysis based on pedigree data.

The effects of a monosomy of either the maternally or paternally derived X chromosome in Turner's syndrome (TS) on general neurocognitive status and some executive abilities were assessed using the maximum likelihood estimators for pedigree data. This method increases the power of analysis by accounting for the effect of background heritable variation on a trait. The sample comprised 42 females with regular non-mosaic X monosomy and their non-affected relatives. Wechsler neurocognitive scores and several executive function tests' scores, including the Behaviour Dyscontrol Scale (BDS-2), the Wi
