Best Practice and Recommendations for Pregnant Orthopedic Surgeons Part I: Navigating Residency.

Family planning and maternity leave concerns contribute to reasons why the percentage of women in orthopedic surgery is disproportionally and consistently low. Without institutional policies, these stressors are often placed on the pregnant resident in training. The establishment of formal department policies allows for clear, universal expectations, which helps decrease negative peer perception and overall dissatisfaction. This practice not only supports current trainees but can also help attract more diverse applicants to create a sustainable workforce. This is the first of a two-part paper

The cultural mosaic: a metatheory for understanding the complexity of culture.

Workforce population trends have increased the numbers and kinds of culturally diverse people who work together. Researchers in organizational behavior have often examined culture through values; however, cultural values can be based on collections of people other than traditional nation states. A cultural mosaic is presented as a framework to identify demographic, geographic, and associative features underlying culture. An individual's unique collage of multiple cultural identities yields a complex picture of the cultural influences on that person. Developments in chaos and complexity theorie

The role, scope and impact of Chief Midwives - Findings from a global study.

BACKGROUND: Strengthening midwifery leadership is a global priority for improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. While dedicated Chief Midwife roles are increasingly recommended as a means to achieve this, little evidence exists on how these positions are structured, enacted, and whether they influence policy, practice, and the profession at the national level. AIM: To explore the role, scope, and impact of Chief Midwives across diverse health system contexts. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted. Ten individual semi-structured interviews were conducted online in 2025 with Chief

Community-Based Professional Development in Core Facilities: ABRF and CTLS Case Studies.

The shift toward the shared scientific resource model (core facilities) has resulted in a growing scientific workforce whose roles extend beyond technical expertise to include customer service, business management, and leadership soft skills. Competency in these areas is critical to success, but formal training is rare, making mentoring, coaching, and job shadowing essential tools for professional development and career sustainability within core facilities. Two professional associations, the Association for Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) and Core Technologies for Life Sciences (CTLS)

Palliative care training for healthcare professionals in ethnic minority regions of China: a qualitative study of training needs, barriers and practice translation.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care training is essential for strengthening workforce capacity, yet little is known about training needs, barriers, and practice translation in ethnic minority regions. In China, these regions are often marked by cultural diversity, geographical remoteness, limited resources, and uneven health-system capacity, all of which may shape how palliative care training is accessed, delivered, and used in practice. This study explored palliative care training needs, barriers, and practice translation across multiple ethnic minority regions in China. METHODS: A qualitative study

Removing Tuition Dependency From Dental Education: Consensus Recommendations on Student Debt, Sustainability, and Pathway Reform.

BACKGROUND: The current financing model for US dental education is increasingly misaligned with the goals of sustainability, equity, and workforce design. Tuition has risen substantially over time, educational debt among dental graduates remains high, and evidence suggests that price affects enrollment decisions and student diversity. High debt may also constrain career choice, reducing graduates' flexibility to pursue academic, hospital-based, public-serving, and safety-net careers. At the same time, major reform reports across the past century have repeatedly argued that dental education mus

The Health Communications Assessment Checklist: a teaching tool for uncovering bias in the age of AI.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant failures in United States public health communications, which were often perceived as unclear and biased, particularly among racialized and marginalized groups. As generative artificial intelligence (genAI) becomes integrated into public health practice, there is an urgent need to train the workforce to recognize and mitigate the societal biases these tools can reproduce. This study describes the development and classroom testing of a tool designed to teach these critical evaluation skills. METHODS: We developed the "Health Communica

A person-centred model of HIV nursing care: translating principles into practice.

UNLABELLED: This paper presents the development and application of a Person-Centred Model of HIV Nursing Care created by the National HIV Nurses Association (NHIVNA). The model responds to the evolving complexities of HIV care and the need to articulate and standardise the nursing contribution within the HIV care continuum. Developed collaboratively with people living with HIV, clinical nurse specialists, and academics, the model provides a structured, person-centred framework to guide high-quality nursing care across diverse clinical contexts. OBJECTIVES: The model aims to: Enhance care qual

American association for women in radiology (AAWR): Official statement regarding paid family and medical leave (PFML).

Physician well-being is essential to high-quality patient care, yet the lack of universally available paid family and medical leave (PFML) in the United States undermines this principle. The dynamic interplay between work and personal responsibilities-especially during significant life events such as childbirth, illness, or caregiving-can impact healthcare providers' mental and physical health, ultimately affecting patient outcomes. While the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides unpaid, job-protected leave, it excludes many workers and disproportionately impacts women, minorities, and

Helping Everyone Achieve a LifeTime of Health - Future Addiction Scientist Training Program Outcomes.

OBJECTIVES: Addiction to alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs (ATOD) remains a leading cause of cancer and a contributor to diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, disproportionately affecting marginalized and minoritized groups. Social and structural inequities including limited healthcare access, employment instability, inadequate housing, and environmental stressors increase these risks. A diverse scientific workforce is necessary to mitigate ATOD-related health disparities; yet underrepresentation persists in ATOD research.
