AIM: In patients who have undergone a polypectomy of a malignant rectal polyp without histopathological risk factors other than an involved or unclear resection margin, additional local excision is often performed. Evidence to support this approach is lacking. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the outcome in terms of local recurrence, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of additional local excision following incomplete polypectomy for low risk T1 rectal cancer.

The purpose of the present study was to determine whether skin fibroblasts from individuals, either with an inherited predisposition to cancer or with genetic disorders usually associated with a high risk of cancer, can be oncogenically transformed in vitro by a tumor promoter alone. The effects of chronic and limited applications of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) on several properties that are associated with transformation were examined using skin fibroblasts from individuals with polyposis coli, a familial cancer syndrome, xeroderma pigmentosum, Fanconi's anemia, and trisomy 21.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) has been established as an invaluable tool for the diagnosis and treatment of small-bowel diseases. To evaluate complications, procedural data, and diagnostic yield of DBE examinations in Germany the presented database was introduced.
METHODS: A prospective database of all DBE examinations in 62 endoscopic centers in Germany was developed using data from a standard questionnaire. Information requested included data on personal information, indications, procedural information, interventions, diagnostic yield, and complications.
