The Journal of foot and ankle surgery : official publication of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons1994eng
Eccrine cancers are uncommon, but potentially recurrent, metastatic and fatal. Rarely, they are primary foot lesions. The literature records 46 foot cases, with age and sex given for 41. Various eccrine cancer types (most on the sole), affected all races, males predominating. Average age at diagnosis was approximately 55. A podiatric facility recorded eight cases among approximately 30,000 skin biopsies, during 15 years. Seven arose in women. Five arose in the great toe area. Three are porocarcinomas. Five are "adenocarcinomas" varying in degree of differentiation. None of the eight patients p

Axillary lymph nodes are a common site of metastatic carcinoma, particularly from the breast. Epithelial inclusions within axillary lymph nodes are uncommon but well recognized, most frequently encountered as small, incidental clusters of mammary-type epithelium; squamous, Müllerian, and mixed types are also sporadically identified. Hidradenoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm classically composed of epidermoid/squamoid, intermediate/basaloid, and mucinous cells that most commonly originates in the skin but can arise in the breast parenchyma, with morphologic and genetic features that overlap with

BACKGROUND: Eccrine porocarcinoma is a rare malignant tumor of the sweat gland and very little is known about its etiology and molecular basis.
METHODS: To investigate the expression of p16 and retinoblastoma (RB) protein and their relationship, an immunohistochemical method was performed on nine eccrine porocarcinomas and five eccrine poromas. Furthermore, one case of eccrine porocarcinoma was analyzed for p16 gene mutation.
RESULTS: A striking inverse correlation between p16 and RB expression was noted in all of the eccrine porocarcinomas and poromas. Strong immunoreactivity for p16 protei

Hidradenomas are benign sweat gland tumors that typically present as small nodules in adulthood. Their anatomic distribution is wide and rarely includes acral sites. In this setting, reliable separation from digital papillary adenocarcinoma is important, but notoriously difficult. Hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections of 25 hidradenomas on acral skin were retrieved. The clinical presenting features and morphologic findings were recorded, and follow-up was obtained. Immunohistochemistry was performed for AE1/3, CK5/6, EMA, CEA, SMA, S100, p40, and p63. The tumors presented as solitary nodules

AIMS: Hidradenoma papilliferum (HP) is a benign vulvar neoplasm that arises from anogenital mammary-like glands, and its morphology is similar to mammary intraductal papilloma. The aim of this study was to investigate oncogenic mutations involved in the tumourigenesis of HP. We focused specifically on PIK3CA and AKT1 mutations, which are both reported to be detected in 33% of mammary intraductal papillomas.
METHODS: In total, seven HP cases were analysed. Clinicopathological analyses and immunohistochemistry for oestrogen receptor, p63, smooth muscle actin (SMA), p53 and β-catenin were perfor

Hidradenomas are benign adnexal neoplasms of uncertain derivation. Although most investigators traditionally have considered these neoplasms to exhibit eccrine differentiation, with only occasional reports supporting apocrine derivation, subdivision of hidradenomas into two groups was recently suggested: those with eccrine differentiation (or poroid hidradenomas) and those exhibiting apocrine differentiation (or clear cell hidradenomas). We have observed five cases of clear cell hidradenomas manifesting unquestionable apocrine characteristics excised from sites other than the axilla, and displ

We present the case of a 54-year-old woman affected by a large perineal region eccrine porocarcinoma, with a wide local invasion. We discuss the clinical presentation and the imaging findings and review the literature.

Hidradenoma usually presents as a solitary, slow-growing, and solid or cystic nodular lesion, which arises in various anatomical sites. Its diagnosis is occasionally difficult because the tumor shares histological features with other cutaneous appendage tumors. Recently, CRTC1-MAML2 fusion gene was reported in hidradenomas, with the fusion transcript being demonstrated in approximately 50% of cases. However, limited information is available regarding its clinical significance. Here, we investigated the relationship between the fusion gene and clinicohistopathological features. We reviewed 39 c

Cutaneous adnexal tumors include lesions with apocrine, eccrine, follicular, sebaceous, and mixed differentiation. Most are benign and sporadic, although malignant forms are occasionally observed and some cases develop in the setting of inherited syndromes. These tumors often cause immense diagnostic difficulty. Dermoscopy is a noninvasive technique that has greatly improved the diagnostic accuracy of different skin lesions, including these tumors. We provide a review of the literature on the dermoscopic structures and patterns associated with adnexal tumors. Most patterns associated with this

Hidradenoma papilliferum (HP) is a benign epithelial tumor most commonly seen in the vulva. It is proposed to be derived from the anogenital mammary-like glands and is histologically very similar to the mammary intraductal papilloma (IP). Approximately 60% of mammary IPs have activating mutations in either PIK3CA or AKT1, with each gene accounting for 30% of cases. In this study, we screened the mutation statuses of PIK3CA, AKT1, RAS, and BRAF in 30 HPs. The results showed that activating mutations in either PIK3CA or AKT1 were identified in 20 tumors (67%); 19 tumors had PIK3CA mutations (63%

BACKGROUND: Eccrine porocarcinoma is a rare malignant tumor, arising from the intraepithelial ductal parts of the sweat glands. Although the clinical appearance is variable, some tumors present with a diameter of 10 cm or more. In most cases the tumor presents as a slowly growing painless mass.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case of a 61 year old male patient is presented, who was admitted because of a peripheral facial nerve palsy. The patient reported about a sting in this area some ten years ago with a persistent swelling. Four years ago this lesion began to grow slowly.
RESULTS: Clinically a hu
