A case of monotypic variant of epithelioid angiomyolipoma (AML) observed in a 62-year old woman is reported. The patient complained of abdominal fullness caused by a huge left renal mass without evidence of tuberous sclerosis complex. Imaging studies showed a left renal mass with an area showing hemorrhage and necrosis. The left renal mass, spleen and pancreatic tail were removed en bloc transabdominally. The resected tumor weighed 1200 g and showed focal necrosis and hemorrhage. Microscopically, the tumor was composed exclusively of atypical polygonal cells with copious eosinophilic cytoplasm

Angiomyolipoma of the colon is very rare. Only three cases have been reported in the literature. Here we report the case of a 54-year-old male, who presented with a progressive abdominal cramping pain. We performed left hemicolectomy under the impression of a cancerous mass over the splenic flexure of the colon. Histology revealed an angiomyolipoma of the colon. In addition, we review the literature.

Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is an uncommon disease that to this point has been known to occur exclusively in reproductive women. To our knowledge, only one case of pulmonary LAM that was proven pathologically has been reported in a genotypical and phenotypical man. Multiple occurrence of hepatic angiomyolipomas is also rare, and only six cases have been found in the literature. Here, we report a biological and phenotypical man who had pulmonary LAM and multiple hepatic angiomyolipomas, leading to a presumptive diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis. This unusual presentation further broa

Angiomyolipoma is one of the benign hamartomas that is found sporadically or associated with tuberous sclerosis. It is a rare soft tissue tumor involving mostly the kidneys, sometimes other visceral organs. The tumor is composed of smooth muscle cells, adipocytes and small sized hyalinized vessels. We present the case of a 74-year-old man with a bifocal angiomyolipoma of the colon. This diagnosis was confirmed at surgery, where a partial colectomy was performed. Histologic examination disclosed the tumor. The patient had no signs of family history of tuberous sclerosis. Extrarenal angiomyolipo

The synchronous occurrence of two different renal tumors in a patient is a rare event. Here we report an incidentally discovered coexistence of cystic nephroma with angiomyolipoma in the right kidney. The patient was a 68-year-old woman without the tuberous sclerosis complex. To the best of our knowledge, this combination of neoplasms has not yet been described before. This rare situation emphasizes the need for careful diagnosis and the correct management of coincident renal neoplasms.

Renal angiomyolipomas (AML) are vascular tumors associated with a risk of spontaneous bleeding. Renal trauma may also initiate such hemorrhage. We present a case in which we initially avoided direct puncture and the possible risk of bleeding through extensive renal AMLs and then subsequently performed a direct puncture through the tumors. A 21-year-old obese male patient with tuberous sclerosis and mental retardation presented to our institution with left renal colic and was found to have a staghorn calculus. A CT scan revealed extensive bilateral renal AMLs. The patient had previously undergo

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of renal angiomyolipoma (AML) in patients either monitored by clinical and radiological follow-up or treated by surgical therapy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty-three patients with renal AML were divided in two groups; 33 patients in group 1 were monitored by annual clinical and ultrasonographic follow-up and 20 in group 2 were treated with surgical therapy. Two patients had tuberous sclerosis (TS) with synchronous bilateral and multiple lesions. Apart from the patients with TS, there were 38 lesions in group 1 and 25 in gro

Angiomyolipoma is a mesenchymal tumor, usually found in the kidney. The pleomorphic appearance and involvement of regional lymph nodes may simulate malignancy, but angiomyolipomas are classified as benign. Renal angiomyolipomas are found in approximately 40% of tuberous sclerosis patients and are usually small, bilateral and asymptomatic nodules. Spontaneous rupture and retroperitoneal haemorrhage may be experienced with larger tumours. Although findings by ultrasonography and computerized tomography are specific for this lesion, histological examination is necessary for a final diagnosis. Sma

In 1986, 23 patients with renal angiomyolipomas as part of tuberous sclerosis were assessed by ultrasonography. In 1991, 20 patients in this group were reexamined with special attention paid to the renal pathological condition. Ultrasonography was performed by the same radiologist who performed the examination in 1986. Of 20 patients 7 had severe hemorrhage necessitating hospital admission (5 had a renal lesion larger than 3.5 cm. in diameter). In 2 patients the exact diameter of the renal angiomyolipomas could not be determined and they underwent nephrectomy. Three patients underwent successf

Bilateral large perinephric angiomyolipomas in a young Chinese woman with tuberous sclerosis are reported. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated large fatty masses, containing abnormally dilated blood vessels and muscle strands, within the Gerota's fascia bilaterally. There were multiple foci of involvement in both kidneys. The diagnosis was confirmed on histological examination of the excised left perinephric angiomyolipoma and nephrectomy specimens. The patient subsequently developed bilateral pneumothoraces which were surgically treated. High resolution CT showed extensive thin-walled cysts

The authors performed intraperitoneal transposition of the right ureter in a patient who suffered from dilatation of the renal cavity-system due to retroperitoneal fibrosis. One and a half year later an angiomyolipoma was eliminated from the left kidney of the patient. Describing the associated occurrence of these 2 infrequent diseases the authors deal with the problem of etiology, diagnosis and treatment.

We present an unusual case of multiple unilateral renal angiomyolipomas occurring together with lymphangioleiomyomatosis of the regional lymph nodes. The association of these 2 hamartomatous lesions has been described only rarely but lends support to the concept that they represent a forme fruste of the tuberous sclerosis disease complex.

We report on a 25-year-old patient diagnosed as having Bourneville tuberous sclerosis with a giant angiomyolipoma 16 X 12 cm. in diameter, and two small angiomyolipomas in the left kidney, multiple asymptomatic angiomas in the right kidney and two 1 cm. diameter angiomas in the liver. The presenting features were intense left-sided abdominal pain of sudden onset, frank hematuria, acute anemic syndrome, nausea and vomiting. Patient work up included x-ray of chest, abdomen, and skull, bilateral renal arteriography and ultrasound were diagnostic of Bourneville tuberous sclerosis with multiple bil

Angiomyolipoma is a benign, mesenchymal, hamartomatous lesion often described in the kidney and may be associated with tuberous sclerosis. Nasal angiomyolipoma is an extremely rare tumor with fewer than 20 cases reported in the literature. We report a case of angiomyolipoma arising in the right nasal vestibule in a 68-year-old male with mild, recurrent right-sided epistaxis, and nasal obstruction. With the exception of arterial hypertension, the patient did not have any comorbidities. Gross examination showed a well-circumscribed, lobulated mass. On the microscopic level, it was composed of ma

Renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs) and pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) are the most common tumors of the perivascular epithelioid cell (PEComa) family. Both may be associated with tuberous sclerosis (TS) complex. Epithelioid AML (EAML) is a rare variety of AMLs, with a potential aggressive behavior. There are few reports in the English literature addressing on the imaging findings of renal EAMLs, which are considered nonspecific. We present the sonographic, computed tomographic, and magnetic resonance imaging findings of a renal EAML in a pregnant woman with concomitant pulmonary lesions in
