The Arcobacteraceae bacterial family includes species isolated from animals and related food products. Moreover, these species have been found in other ecological niches, including water. Some species, particularly Arcobacter butzleri and Arcobacter cryaerophilus, have been isolated from human clinical cases and linked to gastrointestinal symptoms. The presence of antibiotic-resistant strains is a concern for public health, considering the possible zoonoses and foodborne infections caused by contaminated food containing bacteria resistant to antibiotic treatments. This review aims to highlight

Leptospirosis is a globally distributed zoonotic bacterial disease caused by Leptospira spp. Mortality and morbidity burdens are greatest in low-to-middle-income tropical countries, where frequent natural disasters and poor infrastructure drive outbreaks that disproportionately affect marginalised communities. Leptospirosis is a common but overlooked cause of acute undifferentiated fever. This neglect is augmented by limited diagnostics, insufficient treatment evidence, and the absence of a coordinated global health policy. Diagnosis requires clinical vigilance and timely testing, although acc

Leptospira species are the etiological agent of an emerging zoonotic disease known as "Leptospirosis" that substantially affects both human health and economy across the globe. Despite the global importance of the disease, pathogenetic features, host-adaptation and proper diagnosis of this bacteria remains lacking. To accomplish these gaps, pan-genome of Leptospira genus was explored in the present study. The pan-genome of Leptospira genus was comprised of core (692) and accessory parts (softcore:1804, shell:6432, cloud:16,600). The functional analysis revealed the abundancy of "Translation, r

Brucellosis is a reemerging zoonotic infectious disease caused by Brucella spp. and posing significant global health challenges. Focusing on epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic tools, and therapeutic management, the present review synthesizes recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of brucellosis. Notwithstanding global control efforts, brucellosis remains endemic in various regions, with emerging species and hosts complicating its epidemiology. The mechanisms of Brucella intracellular survival, including evasion of host immune responses and manipulation of cellular processes, con

The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of Bartonella spp, Brucella spp, Coxiella burnetii, and Francisella tularensis in European Brown hares (Lepus europaeus) hunter harvested during 2-year hunting periods in northern and central Greece. Serum samples were examined for the presence of IgG antibodies by using an immune fluorescence test and/or an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. PCR was used to detect Bartonella spp DNA in blood samples and Brucella spp, C. burnetii, and F. tularensis DNA in liver samples. Antibodies against Bartonella spp were detected in 12 hares (12/105);

Leptospirosis is a common zoonosis acquired by exposure to body fluids, to tissues of infected animals, or to contaminated soil or fresh water. Large outbreaks of leptospirosis have occurred following excess rainfall or in tourists following exposure to fresh water during adventure activities. Prevention may be achieved through the use of protective clothing or by changes in animal husbandry. Immunization is not widely used in human populations but has a role in agriculture. Oral administration of doxycycline (Periostat , CollaGenex) once-weekly can give short-term protection in high-risk envi

BACKGROUND: Human brucellosis has a serious medical impact worldwide, and its eradication poses major difficulties. Although human brucellosis is relatively rare in the United States (approximately 100 cases per year), there is concern that this disease is largely underdiagnosed and underreported. Additionally, immigrants from endemic areas are arriving to this country, and Brucella species are considered to be biologic agents for terrorism. Human brucellosis affects all age-groups, and family physicians are not well versed in recognizing and treating this potentially life-threatening conditio

BACKGROUND: Zoonotic microorganisms are increasingly impacting human health worldwide. Due to the development of the global population, humans and animals live in shared and progressively crowded ecosystems, which enhances the risk of zoonoses. Although Campylobacter species are among the most important bacterial zoonotic agents worldwide, the molecular mechanisms of many host and pathogen factors involved in colonisation and infection are poorly understood. Campylobacter jejuni colonises the crypts of the human colon and causes acute inflammatory processes. The mucus and associated proteins p

Ticks are known to harbor a great diversity of bacterial agents with potential human and animal health implications. This study investigated the occurrence of Rickettsia and Bartonella spp. in ticks collected from stray cats in the Jerusalem District. Between March 2021 and October 2024, 5002 stray cats were examined, and 330 ticks were collected from 165 infested individuals (3.3%). Three tick species were detected, Rhipicephalus turanicus (n = 224), Haemaphysalis adleri (n = 99), and Rhipicephalus rutilus (n = 7). Rickettsia massiliae-DNA was detected in 31% of the ticks. Moreover, Bartonell

BACKGROUND: Yersinia pestis is the causative agent of plague, a zoonosis associated with small mammals. Plague is a severe disease, especially in the pneumonic and septicemic forms, where fatality rates approach 100% if left untreated. The bacterium is primarily transmitted via flea bite or through direct contact with an infected host. The 2017 plague outbreak in Madagascar resulted in more than 2,400 cases and was highlighted by an increased number of pneumonic infections. Standard diagnostics for plague include laboratory-based assays such as bacterial culture and serology, which are inadequ

UNLABELLED: Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) can lead to severe infections, with additional risks of increasing antimicrobial resistance rates. Genotypic similarities between ExPEC and avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) support a possible role for a poultry meat reservoir in human disease. Some genomic studies have been done on the ST117 lineage which contaminates poultry meat, carries multidrug resistance, can be found in the human intestinal microbiota, and causes human extraintestinal disease. This study analyzed the genomes of 61 E. coli from Brazilian poultry outbreaks foc

Francisella tularensis is a zoonotic infection that can be acquired in multiple ways, including a bite from an arthropod, the handling of animal carcasses, consumption of contaminated food and water, or inhalation of infected particles. The most virulent subspecies of F tularensis is type A, which is almost exclusively seen in North America. Pneumonia can occur in tularemia, as either a primary process from direct inhalation, or as a secondary manifestation of ulceroglandular or typhoidal disease. This article describes the history of this infection, epidemiology, methods of diagnosis and trea

Leptospirosis is a common zoonotic disease with a worldwide distribution. Dogs become infected by exposure to contaminated urine from shedding wild animals. The bacteria penetrate mucus membranes, causing endothelial damage and damage to organs, such as the liver and kidneys. The clinical signs and clinicopathologic data are nonspecific and a high index of suspicion is needed by the practitioner. Testing today is highly based on serology (microscopic agglutination test) and perhaps polymerase chain reaction. Treatment of leptospirosis involves supportive care and antibiotics, and prevention in

OBJECTIVES: Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is the primary pathogen that causes pyoderma in companion animals. The increasing number of multidrug-resistant strains, including methicillin-resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP), has become a major concern, highlighting the need for comprehensive data on antimicrobial susceptibility. Furthermore, with advancements in the accurate identification of S. pseudintermedius in human clinical patients, it is imperative to elucidate its definitive zoonotic potential.
METHODS: We analyzed 111 strains of S. pseudintermedius derived from companion animals and
