We determined the serum concentration of biotin, zinc, antiepileptic drugs, and biotinidase enzyme activity in 20 children treated with valproic acid, in 10 children treated with carbamazepine, and in 75 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. DNA:DNA in situ hybridization using a cloned JC virus (JCV) DNA probe labeled with biotin confirmed the presence of JCV DNA in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded brain biopsies from four cases of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). Highly porous and interconnected scaffolds were fabricated using calcium phosphate glass (CPG) for bone tissue engineering.
