Bupropion overdose can lead to serious side effects which include seizures, status epilepticus, and fatal arrhythmias. Managing bupropion toxicity is challenging as there is no effective antidote and treatment is largely supportive. In this article, we present a case of bupropion toxicity causing profound cardiogenic shock which was treated successfully with mechanical circulatory support.

PURPOSE: This study examined the impact of venlafaxine and bupropion on the detection of nigrostriatal degeneration by dopamine transporter (DAT)-SPECT.
METHODS: 43 patients (70.7 ± 8.6y, 44% female) with [123I]FP-CIT-SPECT under venlafaxine (n = 26, 37.5-225 mg/d), bupropion (n = 16, 150 or 300 mg/d) or both (n = 1) were included retrospectively. Chronic eosinophilic pneumonia (CEP) is not a commonly encountered pulmonary disease that presents with bilateral pulmonary infiltrates accompanied by peripheral and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) eosinophilia. Recovery is rapid with systemic steroids but has frequent recurrences. We present a case with the classic presentation of CEP that appears to be related to a weight loss medication called naltrexone-bupropion. This case is unique in that this drug combination does not appear to have an established link to CEP, though literature reveals possible association with its individual components.
