Tissue response to an experimental calcium hydroxide-based endodontic sealer: a quantitative study in subcutaneous connective tissue of the rat.

Silicone tubes containing a freshly mixed experimental Sealapex, in which titanium dioxide was removed from the original formula, were implanted in the dorsal subcutaneous connective tissue of the rat. Solid silicone rods of the same size as the tubes were also implanted and used as inert controls. The tissue reaction to both these materials was histometrically and quantitatively studied under light microscopy and by elemental electron microprobe analysis. After 7, 30 and 90 d of implantation, different grades of tissue reaction to the tested materials were recorded. A granulomatous tissue con

Effectiveness of calcium hydroxide compared to hydraulic calcium silicate cements for direct pulp capping in managing deep caries in vital permanent teeth: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Direct pulp capping (DPC) is the least minimal approach for maintaining pulp vitality after pulp exposure. Besides calcium hydroxide (CaOH), hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSC) have increasingly been used for DPC. OBJECTIVES: During the S3 level guideline development for material choice in DPC, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing literature comparing CaOH and HCSC for DPC on permanent teeth. We aimed (1) to assess clinical and radiographic outcomes and (2) patient-reported outcomes of DPC. METHOD: Three databases from 1 January 1990 to 19 February

Will mineral trioxide aggregate replace calcium hydroxide in treating pulpal and periodontal healing complications subsequent to dental trauma? A review.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has over the last two decades begun to take the place of calcium hydroxide (CH) in the treatment of a variety of pulpal and periodontal healing complications following dental trauma. These conditions include teeth with: (i) exposed pulps, (ii) immature roots and pulp necrosis, (iii) root fractures and pulp necrosis located in the coronal part of the pulps, and (iv) external infection-related (inflammatory) root resorption. The main reasons for replacing CH with MTA in these situations have generally been the delayed effect when using CH to induce hard tissues,

Effects of extensive apical reaming and calcium hydroxide dressing on bacterial infection during treatment of apical periodontitis: a pilot study.

An apical dentine sampling technique was applied in order to monitor the bacteriology of the pulp canal and radicular dentine before and during treatment of teeth with chronic apical periodontitis. Twenty-three teeth with a radiographic diagnosis of apical periodontitis were studied. They were subjected to a standardized two-appointment treatment regimen of extensive apical reaming in the absence of antimicrobial agents and 1-week dressing with calcium hydroxide. Bacteriological samples were taken from the root canal at the start, and apical dentine samples at the end, of each sitting. Provisi

Calcium hydroxide nanoparticles-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment drive genomic instability and programmed cell death in colorectal cancer cells.

The high aggressiveness, metastatic potential, and mortality of colorectal cancer, together with the limitations of conventional chemotherapy, highlight the urgent need for safer and more effective therapeutic alternatives. Nanotherapies offer promising advantages through improved bioavailability and tumor targeting. In particular, calcium hydroxide nanoparticles (Ca(OH)2NPs) possess unique physicochemical properties, yet their anticancer potential in colorectal cancer remains fully unexplored. This study was consequently undertaken to estimate the cytotoxic effects and underlying molecular me
