One of the main toxicities associated to intravenous administration of amphiphilic drugs is pronounced hemolytic activity. To overcome this limitation, we investigated the anti-hemolytic properties of polymeric micelles of Pluronics, triblock copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(propylene oxide). A method of inducing tumour growth in rat and rabbit bladders is described. Tumour induction is dependent on a pre-induced cystitis. In rats, tumour also grows in the kidneys because of species characteristic vesicoureteric reflux. The possible significance is discussed in relation to the management of human bladder tumours.

The work is devoted to the study of conditions required for the purpose of creation of standard and the most active preparations of erythrocytic H-diagnostic agents. The dependence of binding of the H-antigen by erythrocytes on the pH and the ionic power of the medium was investigated. It was demonstrated that in the process of erythrocyte sensitization with flagellin of great importance were electrostatic, hydrogen, and hydrophobic powers.

Allergic reactions tend to be easily recognized and treated, but methemoglobinemia is a rare, life-threatening complication of topical anesthesia of which our staff was unaware until recently. Team work prevented a patient fatality. Directives to alert the staff to suspect methemoglobinemia in patients who develop cyanosis and decreased oxygen saturation levels after administration of topical anesthesia despite administration of oxygen will prevent fatalities in the future.
