Palmitoyl-protein thioesterase (PPT) and tripeptidyl-peptidase I (TPP-I) activities were measured in leucocytes and fibroblasts. Fourteen patients were confirmed as having late infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis due to a deficiency of TPP-I activity. Hydatidiform moles (HMs) are abnormal human pregnancies with vesicular chorionic villi, imposing two clinical challenges; miscarriage and a risk of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). The parental type of most HMs are either diandric diploid (PP) or diandric triploid (PPM). BACKGROUND: Aquaporins (AQPs) constitute a family of channel proteins implicated in transmembrane water transport. Thirteen different AQPs (AQP0-12) have been described but their precise biologic function still remains unclear. Structure of the placental arterial bed was studied using histological and morphometric methods. The formation of smooth muscle regulatory complexes in blood vessels of the chorionic plate and chorionic villi was demonstrated. These complexes are genetically determined and represent a variant of compensatory and adaptive reorganization of the placental arteries for adequate fetoplacental blood supply under normal conditions and placental underdevelopment.

We report placental cryptococcosis in a woman with multidrug resistant human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. She received antifungal therapy for cryptococcal meningitis prior to delivery. The direct method of chromosomal preparations on chorionic villi biopsies has been applied to the cytogenetic study of 34 early spontaneous abortion products. We summarized our five-year chorionic villus sampling (CVS) experience with indications, detected chromosomal abnormalities and pregnancy outcomes. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study examined 552 patients underwent CVS for prenatal diagnosis between 2014 and 2018. Morphological features of the placenta were studied in women with chronic pyelonephritis and urogenital chlamydial infection. There was an appreciable amount of chaotic sclerotic villi and symplastic nephroses reflecting compensatory-adaptive processes.
