Fourteen surgically treated radial sprains of the M.P. joint of the thumb, are reported. 8 were recent cases, 6 were longstanding. At the time of surgery, the extensor head was severed in 4 cases, the APB tendon in 6 cases, the dorsal articular capsule in 9. The radial collateral ligament was elongated 6 times, ruptured 4 times, and presented bony avulsion in 4 cases. The mean postoperative immobilization was 37 days. 13 patients were reviewed with a mean follow-up of 22 months. Only eight were satisfied. The mean loss of motion was 27 degrees. The mean laxity, assessed on specific dynamic X-r

Worldwide, more people play soccer than any other team sport. The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) registered more than 150 million players in 1984. Although foot injuries in soccer range from midfoot sprains to stress fractures to capsulitis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, we could find no case reports of a rupture of the lateral collateral ligaments of the great toe in soccer players. This is a report of the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of such an injury in a professional soccer player.

The standard surgical approach for repair or reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow involves lifting off of the tendon of the common flexor bundle at its origin on the medial epicondyle. However, a more limited muscle-splitting approach may be feasible. A muscle-splitting approach is less traumatic to the flexor-pronator muscle mass, and it could decrease operative time and lessen immediate morbidity after surgery. A proposed muscle-split through the common flexor bundle extends from the medial humeral epicondyle to a point distal to the tubercle of the ulna such that rep

An arthroscopic technique was used to reduce Stener lesions associated with acute ulnar collateral ligament ruptures of the thumb. We operated on eight thumbs, seven dominant and one nondominant. The average follow-up period was 39 months (range, 30-48). At follow-up examination, no patient reported pain or functional limitation or had joint contracture. In most cases, key pinch, tip pinch, grip strength, and range of motion were equal to or greater than in the thumb on the unaffected side. The only complication, a pin track infection, resolved after wire removal and treatment with oral antibi

Seven patients were diagnosed with an undersurface tear of the deep capsular layer of the anterior bundle of the ulnar collateral ligament. Preoperatively, all of the patients had tenderness over the anterior bundle of the ulnar collateral ligament and pain with valgus stressing of the elbow. Six of the seven patients had a normal magnetic resonance imaging scan, with one magnetic resonance imaging scan showing degeneration within the ligament. All of the patients had a negative computed tomography arthrogram for extracapsular contrast extravasation. A consistent finding in five of the seven p

» There is no clear agreement on the optimal timing or superior type of fixation for medial collateral ligament (MCL) tears in the setting of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.» Anatomic healing of medial knee structures is critical to maintain native knee kinematics, supported by biomechanical studies that demonstrate increased graft laxity and residual valgus rotational instability after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) alone in the setting of concomitant ACL/MCL injury.» Historically, most surgeons have favored treating acute combined ACL/MCL tears conservatively with MCL rehabilitation, fol

BACKGROUND: The combined injury of the medial collateral ligament complex and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most common two ligament injury of the knee. Additional injuries to the medial capsuloligamentous structures are associated with rotational instability and a high failure rate of ACL reconstruction. The study aimed to analyze the specific pattern of medial injuries and their associated risk factors, with the goal of enabling early diagnosis and initiating appropriate therapeutic interventions, if necessary.
RESULTS: Between January 2017 and December 2018, 151 patients with

BACKGROUND: Injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) is common. MCL injuries, with impairment of its superficial portion, associated with the deep portion, lead to valgus instability and extrusion of the medial meniscus, resulting in instability and increased pressure in the medial compartment, with consequent damage to the cartilage. We can synthesize this set of structures as the medial meniscocapsular complex. Treating medial, superficial, and deep capsular meniscal complex together aims to restore the normal anatomy, stability, and function of the medial meniscus.

BACKGROUND: Augmented (internal braced) lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) repair has been biomechanically compared with reconstruction techniques in the elbow. However, LUCL repair alone has not yet been compared with augmented repair and reconstruction techniques.
HYPOTHESIS: Internal bracing of LUCL repair would improve time-zero stabilization regarding gap formation, stiffness, and residual torque as compared with repair alone and reconstruction techniques to restore native elbow stability.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: Overall, 24 cadaveric elbows were used

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the outlet of the femoral tunnel will cause iatrogenic injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) during posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (PCLR) and estimate the safe angle of femoral tunnel placement.
METHODS: Thirteen formaldehyde-soaked human knee joint specimens were used, 8 from men and 5 from women; the donors' age ranged from 49 to 71 years, with an average of 61 years. First, the medial part of the femur was carefully dissected to clearly expose the region of the MCL course and attachment on the femoral medial aspect and to outline the a

INTRODUCTION: Medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a prime valgus stabilizer of the knee, and MCL tears are currently managed conservatively. However, posteromedial corner (PMC) injury along with MCL tear is not same as isolated MCL tear and the former is more serious injury and requires operative attention. However, literature is scarce about the management and outcome of PMC-MCL tear alongside anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. The purpose of this study is to report the clinical outcome of primary repair of MCL and PMC with or without staged ACL reconstruction.
METHODS: A retrospective e

We measured the effects of serial section of the medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament and of the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament on anterior-posterior force-versus-displacement and tibial torque-versus-rotation response curves for seven fresh frozen cadaver knees at zero and 20 degrees of flexion before and after application of as much as 925 newtons of compressive load on the tibiofemoral joint. Section of the anterior cruciate ligament always increased anterior laxity in an unloaded specimen; joint load reduced this increase by a greater amount

HYPOTHESIS: The internal joint stabilizer (IJS) effectively reduces varus angle deviations and mitigates maximum lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) strain during elbow flexion-extension, thereby improving elbow posterolateral rotatory stability.
METHODS: Eight cadaveric specimens underwent biomechanical testing in 4 conditions: intact LUCL (INTACT), intact LUCL with IJS (INTACT IJS), disrupted LUCL (DISRUPT), and disrupted LUCL with IJS. Varus angle and LUCL strain were measured with a LabJack T7 LabJack T7 data acquisition system (DAQ) and 2-camera (PROSILICA GC1350C) stereophotogramme

Chronic ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries of the thumb differ from acute tears in tissue quality and surgical options, yet the relative merits of direct repair versus anatomic reconstruction remain uncertain. We conducted a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses-aligned systematic review synthesising operative techniques, rehabilitation protocols, outcomes, and complications for chronic, closed thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint UCL injuries in adults. Two reviewers independently screened studies and extracted data; risk of bias was appraised with Risk Of

BACKGROUND: Elbow ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) repair with suture brace augmentation shows good time-zero biomechanical strength and a more rapid return to play compared with UCL reconstruction. However, there are concerns about overconstraint or stress shielding with nonabsorbable suture tape. Recently, a collagen-based bioinductive absorbable structural scaffold has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for augmentation of soft tissue repair.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to assess the initial biomechanical performance of UCL repair augmented with this scaffold. We hyp

BACKGROUND: Ruptured finger distal interphalangeal (DIP) collateral ligament is a rare injury, with controversial treatment until the present. Our case series aimed to demonstrate feasible surgical intervention using a mini anchor.
METHODS: The present study includes four patients with ruptured finger DIP collateral ligaments who received primary repair in a single institute. They have suffered from joint instability due to ligament loss caused by infection, motorcycle accidents, and work-related accidents. All patients were operated on similarly using a 1.0 mm mini anchor for ligament reatta

PURPOSE: To evaluate whether elbow instability due to lateral collateral ligament complex injury can be assessed reliably through arthroscopy.
METHODS: Eight fresh human cadaveric elbows were placed in a simulated lateral decubitus position. The radiocapitellar joint (RCJ) gap and ulnohumeral joint (UHJ) gap (mm) were measured with different sizes of probes from the posterolateral viewing portal. The elbow was 90 degrees flexed with neutral forearm rotation for RCJ gap measurement and 30 degrees flexed with full supination for UHJ gap measurement. Sequential testing was performed from Stage 0

BACKGROUND: Although a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury is associated with anteromedial rotatory instability (AMRI) and often with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, there has been little work to develop anteromedial (AM) reconstruction to address this laxity.
PURPOSE: To measure the ability of a novel "anatomic" AM reconstruction technique to restore native knee laxity for isolated AM insufficiency and combined AM plus posteromedial insufficiency.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: A total of 12 cadaveric knees were mounted in a kinematic testing rig that a
