Clinical and histologic observations of opalescent dentin associated with enamel defects.

The rare variant of opalescent dentin associated with enamel defect was found in a 1 1/2-year-old boy. The pulp chambers and root canals of the affected deciduous teeth were very large, with no sign of obliteration. The enamel layer of those teeth was markedly reduced in thickness, and the enamel prisms were not recognized even by scanning electron microscopy. The mantle dentin was abnormal, as were other portions of dentin.

A labeling study of dentin formation rates during crown and root growth of porcine mandibular first molars.

We used fluorochrome labeling to study spatiotemporal variation of dentin apposition (DAR) and extension (DER) rates during crown and root formation of mandibular first molars from wild boar and domestic pigs. DAR was reconstructed along the course of dentinal tubules in four zones of the crown and in the upper root area. In all five zones, mean DAR increased during the first 30% to 40% of apposition, reaching highest values (22-23 μm/day) in the upper-lateral crown zone. Lowest values were recorded near the dentin-pulp interface (DPI). Typically, DARs in contemporaneously formed dentin areas

INTRODUCTION: The precise diagnosis of dental structural anomalies is an essential step preceding our restorative and orthodontic therapies. Indeed, first of all, it is necessary to identify the type of structural anomaly and to determine if it is an isolated or a syndromic form: the dental anomaly could be included in a more complex clinical picture combining other clinical signs. Moreover, the establishment of the diagnosis will allow the practitioner to adapt his clinical protocol according to the observed dental structure anomaly. The choice of the bonding material, the type of preparation

Application of Laser Irradiation for Restorative Treatments.

Nowadays, lasers are widely used in many fields of medicine. Also, they can be applied at many branches of dental practice such as diagnosis, preventive procedures, restorative treatments, and endodontic therapies. Procedures like caries removal, re-mineralization, and vital pulp therapy are the most noticeable effects of laser irradiation which has gained much attention among clinicians. With controlled and appropriate wavelength, they can help stimulating dentinogenesis, controlling pulpal hemorrhage, sterilization, healing of collagenic proteins, formation of a fibrous matrix, and inducing

Fine-needle aspiration findings in epithelioid myoepithelioma of the parotid gland: A diagnostic pitfall.

Dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI) is an inherited disorder affecting dentin. Defective dentin formation results in discolored teeth that are prone to attrition and fracture. Mutation in dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) has been found to cause the dentin disorders DI - I and II (shields II and III). Early diagnosis and treatment of DI is recommended as it may prevent or intercept deterioration of the teeth and occlusion and improve esthetics. Here, we report a case with characteristic clinical, radiological and histological features of DI-I. The etiology and classification followed in literature

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Type IV) with Dental Findings in Siblings.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary disorder characterized by increased tendency for bone fractures due to high fragility. The clinical and radiological features of OI manifest in different age groups, although the disease is congenital in nature. Besides bone fragility, features like laxity of the ligaments, blue sclera, growth retardation, and scoliosis are also observed. In severe cases, respiratory distress and death have been reported. The most important oral finding in OI is the presence of yellowish-brown-coloured brittle teeth characteristic of dentinogenesis imperfecta. Genet

The placement of osseointegrated dental implants in a patient with type IV B osteogenesis imperfecta: a 9-year follow-up.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare autosomal dominant connective tissue and metabolic disorder. Typically, patients with OI exhibit bone fragility, with the sclera, joints, skin, and tooth dentin being affected to varying degrees. Despite existing classifications, there is an extreme phenotypic variation within this population, and at times the mild forms of OI may be difficult to diagnose. Comprehensive management of the severe types of OI involves aggressive physical and surgical orthopaedic treatment to improve muscle structure and joint mobility. For those patients with associated dent

Dental findings in osteogenesis imperfecta: II. Dysplastic and other developmental defects.

Orthopantomograms of 49 patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) classified according to Sillence were examined for dysplastic dentin defects and other developmental abnormalities of the teeth. Thistle-tube-shaped pulps in the permanent teeth were observed in five patients. Four of them had pulp stones in several teeth. Apically extended pulp chambers were present in 3/49 patients, and the structure of the mandible was cystic in 1/49. These defects occurred in patients with type I or unclassifiable OI and were mainly not associated with type I dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI). The prevalence r

Ornidazole Regulates Inflammatory Response and Odontogenic Differentiation of Human Dental Pulp Cells.

AIM: This study aimed to explore the potential of ornidazole as an alternative treatment for pulpitis, focusing on its effects on human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) and macrophages. We assessed the cytotoxicity of various concentrations of ornidazole, its safety and efficacy in treating inflamed hDPCs, and its regulatory impact on inflammatory markers during inflammation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Inflammation in hDPCs was induced using lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and varying doses of ornidazole were introduced. Cell proliferation, migration, inflammation regulation, and dentinogenesis under inflamm

Comprehensive Preventive and Therapeutic Oral Health Care: A Case Report of Mucopolysaccharidosis Type IV A in a Pediatric Patient.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a metabolic disorder resulting from a deficiency of lysosomal enzymes. It is an autosomal recessive disorder with similar incidences in men and women. Mucopolysaccharidosis type IV A is caused by a deficiency of N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase, which deficiency is, in turn, caused by alterations in the GALNS gene. It is marked by a short stature, a pigeon chest, frontal bossing, kyphosis, and a flat nasal bridge. Intraorally, macroglossia, hypodontia, dentinogenesis imperfecta, a broad mouth, and an anterior open bite are some of the common features. The presen

BMP-7 gene transfer to inflamed ferret dental pulps.

In vivo and ex vivo gene transfer are being developed for localized skeletal regeneration. These strategies for tissue regeneration were tested in an adult ferret model of vital pulp therapy. In this model a reversible pulpitis was induced first. Then after 3 d, the pulps were directly infected with recombinant virus or implanted with ex vivo transduced autologous dermal fibroblasts. The genome of the recombinant adenovirus contained a full-length cDNA encoding mouse bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-7 (AdBMP7) or bacterial beta-galactosidase cDNA (AdlacZ). The BMP-7, but not lacZ, ex vivo tran
