BACKGROUND: Simulation training is indispensable in emergency medicine, especially for enhancing patient safety. Methods and technologies used include a wide spectrum ranging from simple skill trainers to complex full-scale simulated environments integrating standardized patient actors. Limitations include the simulation of dynamic changes of clinical symptoms, the depiction of emotions and patient movements as well as complex environments, such as lively traffic. Extended reality (XR) holds the potential to overcome these limitations.
METHODS/AIMS: Starting with the technological basis and t

The digital transformation of healthcare education has accelerated significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting traditional, practice-oriented teaching towards digital methodologies. Before the pandemic, digital teaching was minimally adopted and lacked systematic strategies, especially in Germany’s higher education institutions. This study comprised two cross-sectional online surveys among university faculty in public health, nursing, and medicine—conducted in 2020 and 2021—with a total of 238 participants. The surveys explored the use of digital tools, satisfaction with digital teach

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has taken educational settings by storm in the past year due to its transformative ability to impact school education. It is crucial to investigate pre-service teachers' viewpoints to effectively incorporate GenAI tools into their instructional practices. Data gathered from 606 pre-service teachers were analyzed to explore the predictors of behavioral intention to design Gen AI-assisted teaching. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, this research integrates multiple variables such as Technological Pedagogical

INTRODUCTION: Digital technologies are increasingly embedded in health professions education, requiring students not only to perform technology-mediated practices, but also to judge when such practices can be trusted. Remote functional assessment via videoconferencing exemplifies this challenge; however, there is limited understanding of how students perceive its trustworthiness and judge its appropriateness during professional training. This study aimed to explore how physiotherapy students make sense of remote functional assessment during training, including its appropriateness and perceived

PROBLEM & AIM: Cultural beliefs that equate birth technology with progress, safety and convenience contribute to widespread acceptance of childbirth technology and interventions. Little is known about attitudes towards childbirth technology and interventions among the next generation of maternity care users and whether attitudes vary by country, age, gender, childbirth fear, and other factors.
METHODS: Data were collected via online survey in eight countries. Students who had never had children, and who planned to have at least one child were eligible to participate.
FINDINGS: The majority o

Various Digital Agricultural Technologies (DAT) have been developed and implemented around the world. This study aims to estimate the overall adoption rate and identify the determinant factors for a better adoption perspective after decades of innovation and dissemination. A systematic review was conducted on published studies that reported adoption rates and determinant factors using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. We used meta-regression and the partial correlation coefficient to estimate the effect size and establish the correlation

AI-Generated Design (AIGD) is a technique that uses deep learning algorithms to generate realistic images. It can create new images from scratch or generate images of a specific style, style or theme based on a given input. The emergence of this technology has disrupted not only traditional design work but also the field of design education. The use of AI-Generated Design (AIGD) by design students to cope with their academic work has been prevalent since its emergence. However, the intervention of AI technology in the field of pedagogy has a double-sided effect; the growing popularity of this

Over the years, educators have repeatedly questioned the relevance of complete denture education. The evolution of implants, shrinking curriculum time, and lack of patients have helped drive this sentiment. An aging population with complex medical needs and socioeconomic backgrounds are most likely to need removable complete dentures. Over the years, prosthodontic educators have come up with many creative and innovative solutions, including the treatment of standardized patients to overcome this multi-faceted challenge. Despite their efforts, dental students are graduating with low confidence

OBJECTIVE: Good clinical skills are crucial for all dental practitioners. The transfer of knowledge from didactic lectures to daily clinical application can be challenging for current millennial learners. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using instructional videos to teach dental local anaesthesia in an undergraduate oral health programme in 2017.
METHODS: The philosophical basis of this study relies on the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course which has been proven effective in practical education. Video clips were made in 3 different formats, with the addition of a qui

BACKGROUND: Emergency medicine (EM) is a popular specialty for medical students choosing a career. Many attend medical schools without an affiliated EM residency and lack both the formal mentorship and informal guidance provided by medical school advisors (or faculty) involved in an accredited EM training program. Others desire specialized advice based on geographic or specific academic interest.
OBJECTIVE: The authors describe user characteristics of a Web-based virtual advisor program that paired medical students with EM faculty advisors.
METHODS: Prospective users access the system from a

Patient education is an integral part of recovery from a critical cardiac life event and a core component of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programmes. This study addressed the feasibility of a virtual educational programme for behaviour change in CR patients from a low-resource setting in Brazil. Cardiac patients from a CR programme closed due to the pandemic received a 12-week virtual educational intervention (WhatsApp messages and bi-weekly calls from healthcare providers). Acceptability, demand, implementation, practicality, and limited efficacy were tested. Overall, 34 patients and 8 healthc

INTRODUCTION: In 2011, Umeå University in Sweden was facing its first attempt to transform the existing medical program into a regionalized medical program (RMP), supported by the use of digital technologies. The Swedish RMP means that students are distributed in geographically separated groups while doing their five clinical clerkship semesters. To provide medical students with ways of undertaking their theoretical studies when geographically distributed, digital technologies are used for educational and administrative purposes. In this article, the Swedish RMP will be described and related t
