Understanding barriers to healthcare and harm reduction services among women who inject drugs in Nigeria: A qualitative assessment.

Women who inject drugs (WID) face barriers to healthcare, harm reduction, and social support, alongside stigma, violence, and legal risk. Evidence from Nigeria remains limited. This study explored how WID experience access to healthcare and harm reduction services and examined the social and structural conditions shaping that access. We used a phenomenological qualitative design in three Nigerian states: Abia, Gombe, and Oyo. Data were collected through 24 key informant interviews and six focus group discussions (FGDs) with WID (10 participants per group). Interview guides explored service ava

The Impact of Shared Governance: Implementing Preoperative Warming to Improve Postanesthesia Outcomes Among Gynecological Patients.

BACKGROUND: Unintentional perioperative hypothermia (PH), a core body temperature below 36°C, is a common and preventable complication leading to adverse outcomes. While Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols and professional guidelines recommend preoperative warming measures, particularly forced-air warming (FAW), implementation remains inconsistent. In response to observations of inconsistent preoperative normothermia interventions, a multidisciplinary team utilized a shared governance (SG) model to drive an evidence-based practice (EBP) change. PURPOSE: The aim of this EBP projec

Integrating the behavior change wheel and co-design approach in selecting strategies for improving cervical cancer screening literacy among rural women living with HIV in Eastern Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV (WLHIV) require more frequent cervical cancer screening than HIV negative women. However, uptake of cervical cancer screening services integrated into HIV care at most rural public health facilities in Eastern Uganda is low, below 50%. This is attributed to low cervical cancer screening literacy among rural WLHIV: limited ability to access, understand, and apply cervical cancer screening information. There is a need for evidence-based, context-specific, theory-informed strategies that target multi-level barriers and facilitators of cervical cancer literacy amo

Optimal Injectable Haloperidol Dose Assessment in the Older Hospitalized Inpatient.

BACKGROUND: Haloperidol can be used off-label for agitation and/or delirium in older individuals. The recommended initial intramuscular or intravenous dose is 0.5 to 1 mg. However, the evidence to support these doses is nominal. OBJECTIVES: The primary outcome was to determine whether low-dose injectable haloperidol (≤0.5 mg) was similar in effect to higher doses by assessing the need for repeat doses within 4 hours as a surrogate marker. Secondary outcomes include comparison of length of stay, utilization of restraints, and discharge outcomes between dosage groups. METHODS: This was a retro

Effectiveness of self-managed medication abortion between 13 and 24 weeks gestation: A retrospective review of case records from accompaniment groups in Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador.

OBJECTIVES: In settings where abortion is legally restricted or inaccessible, grassroots feminist networks provide evidence-based information and support to individuals who self-manage abortions-a model of care known as abortion accompaniment. This study aims to fill a gap in existing evidence about out-of-clinic abortion beyond 12 weeks gestation. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective analysis of anonymized case records from accompaniment groups based in Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador of abortions supported between 13 and 24 weeks gestation. We report on the reproductive histories of ind

Organisational barriers to implementing the MAMAACT intervention to improve maternity care for non-Western immigrant women: A qualitative evaluation.

BACKGROUND: In Europe, the number of children born by non-Western immigrant women is rising and these women have an increased risk of negative pregnancy and birth outcomes, compared to the host populations. Several individual and system barriers are associated with immigrant women's access to maternity care. Scientific evaluations of interventions to enhance the health of immigrant women in the maternity setting are lacking, and there is a need for further development of the evidence base on how health care system initiatives may mitigate ethnic inequities in reproductive health. In Denmark, t

The development of a web-based app employing machine learning for delirium prevention in long-term care facilities in South Korea.

BACKGROUND: Long-term care facilities (LCFs) in South Korea have limited knowledge of and capability to care for patients with delirium. They also often lack an electronic medical record system. These barriers hinder systematic approaches to delirium monitoring and intervention. Therefore, this study aims to develop a web-based app for delirium prevention in LCFs and analyse its feasibility and usability. METHODS: The app was developed based on the validity of the AI prediction model algorithm. A total of 173 participants were selected from LCFs to participate in a study to determine the pred
