Role of the CONSTANS protein in regulating flowering time in Thlaspi arvense L.

The floral transition, which denotes the shift from vegetative to reproductive growth, is a fundamental process in plant development that critically influences both plant reproductive success and crop yield. Photoperiod, defined as the perception of day length, acts as a crucial environmental cue regulating floral transition in numerous plant species. Thlaspi arvense L., a promising oilseed crop within the Brassicaceae family, demonstrates photoperiod-insensitive flowering in its Kunming ecotype. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, homologs of the Arabidopsis thaliana CONSTANS (CO) and FLO

Analysis of the synergistic effect between CiFTIP1 and CiFT in flowering regulation of citrus.

Overexpression of CiFTIP1 enhances the long-distance transport of the florigen protein CiFT, leading to early flowering in tomato, with a synergistic effect when co-expressed with CiFT, and provides a potential strategy for regulating flowering time in fruit trees. FTIP1 is a key regulator involved in the long-distance transport of the florigen protein FT. To investigate the role of citrus CiFTIP1 in regulating the transport of CiFT, transgenic tomato plants were employed as experimental materials in this study. Phenotypic analysis revealed that overexpression of CiFTIP1 promoted early floweri

LcCOL7 and LcCOL8 Negatively Regulate Plant Flowering Independent of Day Length.

CONSTANS-LIKE (COL) genes are pivotal regulatory components in the photoperiodic flowering pathway of plants. These genes can be regulated by both photoreceptors and the circadian clock, modulating plant flowering responses under specific day lengths by regulating florigen levels. However, the COL gene family in Litchi chinensis Sonn. has not yet been characterized. In this study, we identified eight COL family members in litchi and classified them into three subgroups based on phylogenetic analysis. The analysis of cis-regulatory elements within the promoters of LcCOLs revealed a wide distrib

Lch-miR156b-directed repression of LcSPL11 regulates flowering in Liriodendron chinense.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small regulatory RNAs that control gene expression through sequence-specific interactions with target transcripts and play pivotal roles in plant developmental phase transitions. Among them, the miR156-SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE (SPL) module constitutes a conserved regulatory pathway controlling flowering time in diverse species, yet its molecular function in woody perennials with extended juvenile phases remains poorly understood. Here, seven miR156 family members were identified in Liriodendron chinense by small RNA sequencing, and the Lch-miR156b-LcSPL11 r

BraALA3 Homologues Mediate Propiconazole Effects on Growth of Flowering Chinese Cabbage.

In agriculture, propiconazole (PCZ) controls excessive growth in flowering Chinese cabbage but poses dietary safety risks due to residue accumulation. Therefore, identifying novel PCZ targets and breeding PCZ-free cultivars is critical for the safe production of flowering Chinese cabbage. Here, we identified three P4-ATPase flippase homologues aminophospholipid ATPase 3 (BraALA3a/b/c) in flowering Chinese cabbage that function as sensitive targets for PCZ. These proteins exhibit high binding affinity for PCZ, which directly inhibits their ATPase activity. Overexpression of the BraALA3 homologu

Flowering Phenological Patterns of Entomophilous Plants in an Alpine Grassland of the Qilian Mountains.

Flowering phenology is a critical life-history trait determining the reproductive success of entomophilous plants in alpine ecosystems. However, comprehensive characterizations and cross-level comparative studies of these phenological patterns remains limited. In this study, we conducted high-frequency phenological monitoring of 36 entomophilous species across 15 families in a typical alpine grassland in the Qilian Mountains, extracting parameters at the individual, population, functional group, and community levels. Our results demonstrate that the community flowering season lasted approximat

Developmental innovation of inferior ovaries and flower sex orchestrated by KNOX1 in cucurbits.

In flowering plants, inferior ovaries are key morphological innovations that evolved multiple times from superior ovaries to protect female parts of the flower. However, the developmental mechanisms underlying inferior ovary formation remain largely unknown. Comparative spatial transcriptome mapping and cell lineage reconstructions in developing floral buds of cucumber and tomato, which have inferior and superior ovaries, respectively, revealed that inferior ovaries develop from accelerated receptacle growth resulting from the continuous activity of meristematic stems cells at the base of the

Complementarity between Orius predators improves control of foliar and flower pests.

BACKGROUND: Multispecies natural enemy assemblages may be more successful in suppressing herbivorous pests compared to low-diversity communities, especially when natural enemies complement each other regarding the niches they exploit. Orius predatory bugs are omnivorous biological control agents used in horticulture, and are widely associated with the control of flower thrips. However, species within the Orius genus may differ significantly in biological characteristics, such as size, thermal development requirements, induction of diapause, degree of omnivory, and within-plant distribution. Identification and characterisation of PRXamide peptides in the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis.

Insect CAPA-PVK (periviscerokinin) and pyrokinin (PK) neuropeptides belong to the PRX family peptides and are produced from capa and pyrokinin genes. We identified and characterised the two genes from the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis. The capa gene transcribes three splice variants, capa-a, -b, and -c, encoding two CAPA-PVKs (EVQGLFPFPRVamide; QGLIPFPRVamide) and two PKs (ASWMPSSSPRLamide; DSASFTPRLamide). The pyrokinin mRNA encodes three PKs: DLVTQVLQPGQTGMWFGPRLamide, SEGNLVNFTPRLamide, and ESGEQPEDLEGSMGGAATSRQLRTDSEPTWGFSPRLamide, the most extended pheromone biosynthes

OsCRY2 and OsFBO10 co-regulate photomorphogenesis and photoperiodic flowering in indica rice.

Cryptochromes (CRYs) are a class of photoreceptors that perceive blue/ultraviolet-A light of the visible spectrum to mediate a vast number of physiological responses in bacteria, fungi, animals and plants. In the present study, we have characterized OsCRY2 in a photoperiod sensitive indica variety, Basmati 370, by generating and analyzing overexpression (OE) and knock-down (KD) transgenic lines. The OsCRY2OE lines displayed dwarfism as shown in their reduced plant height and leaf length, attributed largely by an overall reduction in their cell size. The OsCRY2OE lines flowered significantly ea

The flowering time regulator FLK controls pathogen defense in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Plant disease resistance is a complex process that is maintained in an intricate balance with development. Increasing evidence indicates the importance of posttranscriptional regulation of plant defense by RNA binding proteins. In a genetic screen for suppressors of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) accelerated cell death 6-1 (acd6-1), a small constitutive defense mutant whose defense level is grossly in a reverse proportion to plant size, we identified an allele of the canonical flowering regulatory gene FLOWERING LOCUS K HOMOLOGY DOMAIN (FLK) encoding a putative protein with triple K homolo

Morphology and ultrastructure of the colleterial glands in Myzinum flower wasps (Tiphiidae, Hymenoptera).

The strategies used by females to ensure the survival of their offspring are one of the key elements in insect reproductive biology. Ectoparasitoid hymenopterans, such as tiphiid wasps, use their ovipositor to deliver a single egg on the host body, where the larva develops. Here we describe the colleterial glands in females of two species of Myzinum and discuss the homology with other glands among Hymenoptera. The glands appear as two large opaque round sac-like structures that are connected to the oviduct. Histological sections revealed a compound gland, with a single layer of class-1 epithel

FIONA1 is an RNA N6-methyladenosine methyltransferase affecting Arabidopsis photomorphogenesis and flowering.

BACKGROUND: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) mRNA modification is essential for mammalian and plant viability. The U6 m6A methyltransferases in other species regulate S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) homeostasis through installing m6A in pre-mRNAs of SAM synthetases. However, U6 m6A methyltransferase has not been characterized in Arabidopsis and little is known about its role in regulating photomorphogenesis and flowering. RESULTS: Here we characterize that FIONA1 is an Arabidopsis U6 m6A methyltransferase that installs m6A in U6 snRNA and a small subset of poly(A)+ RNA. Disruption of FIONA1 leads to phyto
