Persistent orofacial pain associated with nasopharyngeal extramedullary plasmacytoma.

Orofacial pain (OFP) disorders affect the maxillofacial complex and typically involve other locations in the head and neck. Common etiologies of OFP disorders include odontogenic sources, temporomandibular disorders, neuropathic pain, chemosensory disorders, and headaches. Less commonly, benign and malignant neoplasms can be associated with OFP complaints. Patients with OFP symptoms require a thorough evaluation and are often referred to additional healthcare providers for interprofessional management. In those OFP patients whose symptoms do not respond to conventional treatment(s), whose symp

Adaptation measures in dental care for children with history of Adverse Childhood Experiences: A practical proposal.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) such as maltreatment, abuse, or neglect can disrupt childhood development and increase the risk of health issues, including dental health. Such a vulnerable population frequently may deny dental treatment due to fear of intimate contact in the oral cavity, resulting in a vicious cycle that further leads to detrimental oral health. It is important for dentists, particularly pediatric dentists, to not only understand how to identify potential cases of abuse or maltreatment but also how to treat these patients so that the dental treatment does not become a neg

Oral rehabilitation in a patient with Jeune syndrome presenting with multiple teeth agenesis.

Jeune syndrome (JS) is a rare disease, with systemic manifestations, such as renal and hepatic insufficiency, retinal pigmentation, and respiratory insufficiency. Etiological factors have not been completely elucidated, but the molecular biology has contributed to the diagnosis and understanding of JS with DNA sequencing, showing the association among polymorphisms in different genes DYNC2H1 (MIM 603297) and TCTEX1D2 (MIM617353), which are the main genes associated with JS. There are a few reports on buccal findings in these patients; here, we present dental anomalies and clinical oral finding

A case report of cleidocranial dysplasia: A noninvasive approach.

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare bone disorder. The main dental features are the presence of multiple retained deciduous teeth and supernumerary teeth, as well as unerupted permanent teeth. To date, CCD is managed by a combination approach, which consists of the extraction of deciduous and supernumerary teeth, followed by orthodontic traction of unerupted permanent teeth. This case highlights the management of a girl with CCD, who refused the recommended protocol. A 15-year-old Malay female presented with a complaint of retained deciduous teeth. Intraoral examination revealed multiple r

Possible association of sialolithiasis with HIV infection and highly active antiretroviral therapy: A case report.

Although there appears to be an overall trend of diminishing oral manifestations of HIV infection, evidence is emerging on the increased incidence of concomitant parotid gland enlargement and xerostomia. Furthermore, several case narrations and a limited series have suggested a possible association of sialolithiasis with highly active antiretroviral therapy, mostly involving the parotid gland. The aim of this report is to present a patient with a giant sialolith of the submandibular gland following a 27-year intake of various antiretrovirals for HIV infection and review the relevant literature
