A 68 years old man was referred to our hospital with symptoms of hematemesis and melena. An emergent gastroscopy showed a gastric ulcerative lesion with an exposed vessel (Forrest IIa) protruding from its base, which was located at the posterior wall of the upper portion of the gastric body. We have modified the technique of perigraft-to-right atrial shunt to control hemorrhage after aortic root replacement. We have performed this operation in 2 patients, including one who had acute aortic dissection and another who underwent aortic root replacement and single-vessel coronary artery bypass. Several reports have appeared on the increased risk of thromboembolic diseases associated with the use of oral contraceptives (OCs). The increased risk of thromboembolism has been related to increased circulating blood levels of certain factors of both the clotting and fibrinolytic systems seen in OC users. These changes have been associated primarily with the estrogen component of the OC preparations. The two new oral contraceptives under study contain reduced levels of ethinyl estradiol, 30 micrograms and each utilizes a new progestogen--75 micrograms gestodene or 150 micrograms desogestrel.

Hemostasis system in patients with schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorders was examined using "Fibrinodynamics" technology that allows evaluating the overal coagulation, fibrinolysis, and hemostasis potentials.
