Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Nurses Managing Pediatric Postoperative Pain.

Baruch Spinoza and the Ethics of Care: Towards A Monistic Understanding of Spiritual Care at the End of Life.

Dualism has shaped current healthcare based on the dichotomies of body-mind, science-spirituality and life-death, consolidating a biomedical paradigm that treats the patient as an object, marginalising the spiritual dimension. This article explores Baruch Spinoza's philosophy as an alternative to the ethics of nursing care, integrating the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions within the same ontological continuum. Through a philosophical-conceptual approach inspired by hermeneutic interpretation, key concepts from the work Ethics are presented, inviting the reader to reflect on them i

Entropy as a Tool for Quantifying Biomedical Signals: Gaps and Opportunities in Clinical Methodological Approaches-A Scoping Review.

In biomedical and engineering research, entropy metrics have become well-established tools for assessing the complexity of dynamic and physiological systems. This scoping review examines the relationship between information theory quantifiers (ITQs), bioelectrical signals, and time series, and the limited diagnostic value of these measures in functional dyspepsia (FD). Three main variables were defined in this study: entropy, health experiments, and FD. Eighty-five academic documents were analyzed using the PRISMA methodology, following 4 phases: (i) heuristic; (ii) classification and systemat

Subjective meanings of 'unintended' pregnancy: interviews from understanding fertility management in contemporary Australia.

Unintended pregnancy can be difficult to identify and conceptualise. We aimed to understand how unintended pregnancies are constructed, explained and situated in a reproductive life. A total of 41 women and 7 men aged 20-50 years were interviewed in depth. Transcripts were analysed using iterative hermeneutic techniques informed by narrative theory. Of 34 participants who had been pregnant or had a partner in pregnancy, 12 women and 1 man described 23 'unintended' pregnancies, about half of which ended in abortion. Their accounts reveal that an unintended pregnancy is identified subjectively,

Understanding Dying Concerns in Parents With Advanced Cancer With Dependent Children for Their Coparent: A Phenomenological Study.

Parents with advanced cancer and their dependent children experience high psychological distress, decreased quality of life, and decreased family functioning due to cancer-related concerns. Dying concerns are defined as fluctuating thoughts or feelings that are conscious or unconscious about an anticipated and approaching death that is attributed to a palliative/terminal diagnosis. This study used Gadamer's phenomenological approach to gain a shared understanding of the perspectives of the parents with advanced cancer about dying concerns, family life before and after advanced cancer diagnosis
