Microtia and Social Media: Patient Versus Physician Perspective of Quality of Information.

INTRODUCTION: Previous research demonstrates that patients seek high-quality information on the World Wide Web, especially in rare conditions such as microtia. Social media has overtaken other sources of patient information but quality remains untested. This study quantifies the quality of information for patients with Microtia on social media compared with nonsocial media websites and compares physician and patient scoring on quality using the DISCERN tool. METHODS: In phase 1, quality of the top 100 websites featuring information "Microtia" was ranked according to quality score and position

Investigating Digital Health Information Literacy Effects on Public Hospitals' Nursing Personnel Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study investigated the relationship between health information-seeking behavior (HISB), digital health literacy, and fear of COVID-19 among Greek nursing staff during the pandemic. Utilizing a cross-sectional design grounded in Wilson's Model of Information-Seeking Behavior, a structured questionnaire was administered to 120 licensed professionals at a regional general hospital. The primary objective was to examine how informational needs and literacy levels correlated with psychological responses, specifically the fear of the virus. Results indicated that nursing staff were highly motiva

Effects of the pandemic and economic crisis on public search trends related to oral and maxillofacial surgery in Türkiye: a Google Trends time-series analysis (2020-2025).

BACKGROUND: Large-scale societal disruptions, including pandemics and economic crises, profoundly influence healthcare-seeking behavior. Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) comprises both essential and elective procedures and is therefore particularly sensitive to external pressures. This study investigated how the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic downturn affected public interest in OMS-related procedures in Türkiye via Google Trends. METHODS: This observational digital epidemiology time series study analyzed weekly relative search volume (RSV) data for four OMS-related keywords (“w

Digital engagement and online health information seeking behaviour among older adults: findings from Türkiye.

BACKGROUND: With advances in information technology and the widespread availability of online health resources, access to digital health information has become increasingly common. In this context, the ability of older adults to effectively access, evaluate, and use online health information has emerged as a critically important competence. Since the internet provides easy and often low-cost access to a wide range of information, older adults are increasingly using the internet for health-related purposes. This study aimed to examine the demographic, economic, and personal factors associated w

Barriers, facilitators, needs, and preferences in seeking information regarding cervical cancer prevention programs among Turkish, Moroccan, and Syrian immigrant women: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. Immigrant women are often disproportionately affected by CC but show low participation in CC screening and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review on immigrant women's information needs regarding CC screening participation and HPV vaccination uptake. A total of 584 articles were found on Embase.com, PsychINFO, and CINAHL, of which 87 articles were included. RESULTS: This review revealed that immigrant women indicate a need for more personalized informatio

Differential impacts of healthy cognitive aging on directed and random exploration.

Deciding whether to explore unknown opportunities or exploit well-known options is a ubiquitous part of our everyday lives. Extensive work in college students suggests that young people make explore-exploit decisions using a mixture of information seeking and random behavioral variability. Whether, and to what extent, older adults use the same strategies is unknown. To address this question, 51 older adults (ages 65-74) and 32 younger adults (ages 18-25) completed the Horizon Task, a gambling task that quantifies information seeking and behavioral variability as well as how these strategies ar

The mediating role of feedback-seeking behavior in the relationship between self-efficacy and transition shock of nursing interns: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Transition shock commonly occurs as nursing interns move from student roles to professional practice, leading to confusion, uncertainty, and a lack of clarity in their psychological, physiological, knowledge and skills development. AIM: This study aims to investigate the status of transition shock among Chinese nursing interns and explore the mediating role of feedback-seeking behavior in the relationship between self-efficacy and transition shock. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional survey study following the STROBE guidelines. A convenience sample of 450 nursing interns were sur

Rats did not show evidence of prospective information-seeking: a pilot study.

Information-seeking behavior often features in research on metacognition in non-human animals; some species seek more information when they do not know the location of a food reward. Rats are known to do this in situations of uncertainty, but it is still unclear if they seek information prospectively for solving a later problem. In this study, we investigated rats' information-seeking responses in two areas that presented different cognitive challenges (N = 4). In one area, a memory task was presented in which rats could access a cue for a food reward during the information-seeking phase of a

National health information infrastructure model: a milestone for health information management education realignment.

OBJECTIVE: Challenges and drawbacks of the health information management (HIM) curriculum at the Master's degree were examined, including lack of well-established computing sciences and inadequacy to give rise to specific competencies. Information management was condensed to the hospital setting to intensify the indispensability of a well-organized educational campaign. The healthcare information dimensions of a national health information infrastructure (NHII) model present novel requirements for HIM education. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Articles related to challenges and barriers to adoption of

Sociodemographic, health, and digital behavior variables were collected. Tobit regression was used to examine associated factors. RESULTS: Problematic HL was common (67.3%), whereas most participants had sufficient eHL (85.5%). Higher H
