Does cancer literacy predict cancer screening intention or uptake? A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between cancer literacy (CL) and cancer screening behaviors, including screening intention and uptake. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted across three databases up to October 2024 (CRD42024500935). Studies were included if they (i) had an observational design, (ii) measured CL using validated or ad hoc tools, and (iii) quantified its association with cancer screening intention and/or uptake. Quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Findings were narratively synthesized by cancer type for each outcome. RESULTS: Six cross-sectional

Investigating Continuance Intention for Telehealth Visits in Children's Hospitals: Survey-Based Study.

BACKGROUND: Telehealth visits are remote health care consultations conducted using digital technologies, such as video calls, phone calls, or web-based platforms. This type of service offers numerous benefits for both health care users and health care providers. Users save time and money by avoiding traveling to health care facilities. At the same time, health care providers can expand access to care for users in remote areas and enhance the continuity of care. These advantages are even more evident in pediatric settings, where attending in-person services must align with the commitments of th

Interplay of Depression, Smoking Intention, and Smoking Behavior in Chinese Dai Adolescents.

Tobacco smoking and depression are important contributors to the burden of disease in China, and their onset typically occurs in adolescence. However, there is no consensus on the nature and underlying mechanisms of their interplay, and related studies on Chinese adolescents and ethnic minorities are limited. This study tested the mediation role of depression in the link between smoking intention and behavior in relation to sex. A secondary analysis was conducted on data from a survey of 1,322 Chinese Dai middle school students aged 15-19 years (M = 17.02 years; 773 female students and 542 mal

Participating in Two Video Concussion Education Programs Sequentially Improves Concussion-Reporting Intention.

Undiagnosed concussions increase the risk of additional concussion and persistent symptoms from concussion. Because there are no reliable objective markers of concussion, self-reporting of subjective and non-visible symptoms are critical to ensuring proper concussion management. For this reason, educational interventions target concussion reporting, but the majority of studies have examined the efficacy of single educational interventions or compared interventions to one another. This randomized crossover study sought to identify whether there was benefit to administering multiple concussion e

Aggression modulates neural correlates of hostile intention attribution to laughter in children.

The tendency to interpret nonverbal social signals as hostile in intention is associated with aggressive responding, poor social functioning and mental illness, and can already be observed in childhood. To investigate the neural correlates of such hostile attributions of social intention, we performed a functional magnetic imaging study in 10-18 year old children and adolescents. Fifty healthy participants rated videos of laughter, which they were told to imagine as being directed towards them, as friendly versus hostile in social intention. Hostile intention ratings were associated with neura

Superior parietal cortex and the attention to delayed intention: An rTMS study.

Prospective memory (PM) is the ability to remember to carry out an intention when the appropriate cue occurs. This study aimed to investigate whether the superior parietal cortex is causally involved in PM and, if so, what is its functional role. We applied repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the left and right superior parietal cortex, and we evaluated the TMS effects on two different PM tasks that required to direct the attention towards either the external stimuli ('Monitoring-load' task) or the intention in memory ('Retrospective-load' task). rTMS of left parietal cortex

Intention Tremor of the Legs in Essential Tremor: Prevalence and Clinical Correlates.

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence and assess the clinical correlates of intention tremor in the legs in essential tremor (ET) patients. BACKGROUND: The cerebellar features of ET are of growing interest to clinical neurologists. Arm tremor has an intentional component in many ET patients. Intention tremor in the legs, however, has never been systematically evaluated. METHODS: One-hundred-twenty-eight ET patients were enrolled in a clinical-epidemiological study at Columbia University. A videotaped neurological examination included 10 toe-to-target movements with each foot. Videotapes were

Motor intention determines sensory attenuation of brain responses to self-initiated sounds.

One of the functions of the brain is to predict sensory consequences of our own actions. In auditory processing, self-initiated sounds evoke a smaller brain response than passive sound exposure of the same sound sequence. Previous work suggests that this response attenuation reflects a predictive mechanism to differentiate the sensory consequences of one's own actions from other sensory input, which seems to form the basis for the sense of agency (recognizing oneself as the agent of the movement). This study addresses the question whether attenuation of brain responses to self-initiated sounds

Integrating intention and context: assessing social cognition in adults with Asperger syndrome.

Deficits in social cognition are an evident clinical feature of the Asperger syndrome (AS). Although many daily life problems of adults with AS are related to social cognition impairments, few studies have conducted comprehensive research in this area. The current study examined multiple domains of social cognition in adults with AS assessing the executive functions (EF) and exploring the intra and inter-individual variability. Fifteen adult's diagnosed with AS and 15 matched healthy controls completed a battery of social cognition tasks. This battery included measures of emotion recognition,

Kinematic analysis of thalamic versus subthalamic neurostimulation in postural and intention tremor.

Deep brain stimulation of the thalamus (thalamic DBS) is an established therapy for medically intractable essential tremor and tremor caused by multiple sclerosis. In both disorders, motor disability results from complex interaction between kinetic tremor and accompanying ataxia with voluntary movements. In clinical studies, the efficacy of thalamic DBS has been thoroughly assessed. However, the optimal anatomical target structure for neurostimulation is still debated and has never been analysed in conjunction with objective measurements of the different aspects of motor impairment.
