Impaired control (i.e., difficulty adhering to limits on alcohol use) prospectively predicts self-reported alcohol-related problems in undergraduates yet remains understudied. In particular, there is little evidence regarding whether brief interventions can reduce impaired control. An efficacious, very brief, web-based intervention focused on protective behavioral strategy (PBS) use may be well suited to reducing impaired control, but there is also little evidence regarding relationships between impaired control and PBS use. Data were analyzed from a randomized controlled trial of U.S. Tertiar

Increasingly, the internet is being used as a source of mental health information as well as structured treatment programs for people with mental health concerns or problems. The present review focuses mainly on research conducted at the University of Ballarat in Australia, and Uppsala University in Sweden, on internet-based treatment for panic disorder, one of the more common and disabling anxiety disorders. Our studies suggest that internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy is an effective intervention for panic disorder, and that it is more effective than some other self-help therapies. W

BACKGROUND: Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) is the only intervention shown in a randomized controlled trial to reduce sexual violence victimization against undergraduate women by 50%. EAAA is an in-person, small-group intervention led by two trained peer facilitators over four three-hour sessions. Implementation cost and train-the-trainer complexities have led to limited uptake with relatively few institutions implementing the intervention, despite its efficacy. Adapting EAAA for online delivery would enable use of a centralized facilitator pool, dramatically cutting cost and complexi

BACKGROUND: It is crucial to prepare adolescent mothers-who represent a vulnerable group where the importance of breastfeeding is increasingly emphasized-for the BF experience. A method on the rise or increasingly popular for promoting breastfeeding is through web-based education interventions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a web-based breastfeeding education program, developed by the researchers, on breastfeeding outcomes among adolescent pregnant women in the postpartum period.
METHODS: This randomized controlled study involved a sample of 100 pregnant adolescents, age

OBJECTIVE: Anxiety and depression are prevalent in young people. Web-based mental health interventions (W-MHIs) have the potential to reduce anxiety and depression, yet the level of engagement remains low. This study aims to elicit young people's preferences towards W-MHIs and the relative importance of intervention attributes in influencing choice.
METHODS: A discrete choice experiment (DCE) was conducted online among young people aged 18-25 years who lived in Australia, self-reported experiences of anxiety and/or depression in the past 12 months and had an intention to use W-MHIs and/or pre

BACKGROUND: Pediatric acquired brain injury (ABI) is frequently associated with cognitive and socioemotional alterations. Therefore, targeted rehabilitation to improve everyday functioning, particularly executive functioning (EF), is needed to limit the possible deterioration of cognitive abilities and behavior over time and the associated social and psychological costs.
OBJECTIVE: In this paper, we present the protocol for a phase-2 randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed at examining the feasibility and efficacy of a web-based intervention (ie, the Italian version of the Teen Online Problem

Internet-based health education has been increasingly integrated into perioperative and postoperative management for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the overall effectiveness of such interventions on psychological well-being and recovery outcomes remains uncertain. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang databases from inception to December 2024. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or cohort studies evaluating Internet-based health education interventions in CRC patients, with control gro

BACKGROUND: Stopping smoking can improve mental health, with effect sizes similar to antidepressant treatment. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) provides evidence-based treatment for depression and anxiety, and digital interventions can support smoking cessation. However, combined digital smoking and mental health support is not currently available in UK health services.
OBJECTIVE: This feasibility trial aimed to investigate the acceptability and feasibility of a digital tailored smoking cessation intervention delivered alongside usual iCBT, and test trial procedures.

Panic attacks (PAs) are intense episodes of anxiety with severe physical symptoms that can impair an individual's social and occupational functions. Psychoeducation, a structured educational intervention, aims to improve various health aspects, including mental disorders. Delivering psychoeducation via the Internet can overcome barriers to accessing mental health treatment. This study examined the effectiveness of online psychoeducation on panic symptoms, anxiety, and quality of life (QOL) among people experiencing PAs. In this quasi-experimental design, 157 participants with PAs were recruite

OBJECTIVES: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental health disorder. Internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) is demonstrated to be effective for OCD; however little is known about the acceptability of the treatment. Therefore the aim of this study was to examine the acceptability of ICBT for adults with OCD symptoms using a meta-analytic approach.
METHOD: Seventeen studies (N = 1661; Mage range = 28-41 years; 58%-93% female) were included in this analysis.
RESULTS: The random effects pooled estimates indicated that 16.3% (95% CI: 9.8%-25.7%) of participants did

PURPOSE: Vestibular rehabilitation is an effective intervention for dizziness due to vestibular dysfunction, but is seldom provided. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of an Internet-based vestibular rehabilitation program for older adults experiencing dizziness in primary care.
METHODS: We undertook a single-center, single-blind randomized controlled trial comparing an Internet-based vestibular rehabilitation intervention (Balance Retraining, freely available from https://balance.lifeguidehealth.org) with usual primary care in patients from 54 primary care practices in southern England.

BACKGROUND: Tinnitus affects around 15% of the population and can be a debilitating condition for a sizeable part of them. However, effective evidence-based treatments are scarce. One recommended treatment for tinnitus is cognitive behavioral therapy which has been found to be effective when delivered online. However, more treatments including mindfulness-based interventions have been studied recently in an attempt to facilitate the availability of effective treatments. There are promising findings showing great effects in reducing tinnitus-induced distress and some evidence about the efficacy

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Online interventions for problem gambling are increasingly popular, but not everyone benefits from them. We describe 12 years of real-world data from an online intervention for gambling problems and aim to find out the extent to which depression, alcohol use, and sense of financial control influence the effectiveness of the program.
METHODS: We analyzed treatment effectiveness and moderators in the Finnish "Peli Poikki" program (2007-2018)-an 8-week cognitive behavioral therapy and follow-up program for problem gambling. Participants were Finnish-speaking adults over 18 y

Starting in 2019, the 2014 German Guidelines for Anxiety Disorders (Bandelow et al. Eur Arch Psychiatry Clin Neurosci 265:363-373, 2015) have been revised by a consensus group consisting of 35 experts representing the 29 leading German specialist societies and patient self-help organizations. While the first version of the guideline was based on 403 randomized controlled studies (RCTs), 92 additional RCTs have been included in this revision. According to the consensus committee, anxiety disorders should be treated with psychotherapy, pharmacological drugs, or their combination. Cognitive behav

BACKGROUND: Guided cognitive behavioral self-help is a recommended first-line treatment for eating disorders (EDs) such as bulimia nervosa (BN) or binge eating disorder (BED). Online versions of such self-help programs are increasingly being studied in randomized controlled trials (RCTs), with some evidence that they can reduce ED symptoms, although intervention dropout is variable across interventions. However, in-depth research into participants' experiences and views on the acceptability of web-based interventions is limited.
OBJECTIVE: This is a qualitative process study of participants'

BACKGROUND: Social media addiction disorder has recently become a major concern and has been reported to have negative impacts on postgraduate studies, particularly addiction to Facebook. Although previous studies have investigated the effects of Facebook addiction disorder in learning settings, there still has been a lack of studies investigating the relationship between online intervention features for Facebook addiction focusing on postgraduate studies.
OBJECTIVE: In an attempt to understand this relationship, this study aimed to carry out an investigation on online intervention features f

BACKGROUND: The introduction of home therapy for hemophilia has empowered patients and their families to manage the disease more independently. However, self-management of hemophilia is demanding and complex. The uses of innovative interventions delivered by telehealth routes such as social media and Web-based and mobile apps, may help monitor bleeding events and promote the appropriate use of clotting factors among patients with hemophilia.
OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to summarize the literature evaluating the effectiveness of telehealth interventions for improving health outcomes in
