Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are a rare group of malignant tumors in adults. This group of tumors contains a variety of subtypes, each with distinct clinical features and presentations. Leiomyosarcoma is among the most common subtypes, which typically occur within the uterus, retroperitoneum, abdomen, and large blood vessels. At presentation, tumors are often large and may have metastasized to the lungs, liver, or peritoneum. Given the rarity and variability of the disease, a multidisciplinary treatment approach is essential for management, however, further research is needed to develop histolog

Gastric leiomyosarcoma is extremely rare. In this paper, we present a case of primary gastric leiomyosarcoma located in the fundus/cardia region. The tumoral spindle cells show diffusely moderate nuclear atypia, with focally marked atypia and rare mitotic figures. Additionally, the tumoral cells exhibit positive immunoreactivity to smooth muscle actin and desmin while testing negative for CD117 (c-kit). The tumor was successfully resected through a laparoscopic partial gastrectomy, and the patient experienced a full recovery. There has been no recurrence or metastatic tumor detection during th

Superficial leiomyosarcomas (LMS) are rare skin cancers (2-3% of cutaneous sarcomas) that originate from dermally located hair follicle muscles, dartos or areolar muscles (cutaneous/dermal LMS), or from vascular muscle cells of the subcutaneous adipose tissue (subcutaneous LMS). These superficial LMS are distinct from LMS of the deep soft tissues. Leiomyosarcomas are typically localized at the lower extremities, trunk or capillitium, and present as painful, erythematous to brownish nodules. Diagnosis is made by histopathology. The treatment of choice for primary LMS is complete (R0) microscopi

Leiomyosarcomas are rare malignant mesenchymal neoplasms originating from smooth muscle cells. Although leiomyosarcoma is commonly located in the female reproductive system, gastrointestinal tract, and subcutaneous tissues, it is a rare entry in the head and neck area, probably due to the scarcity of smooth muscle tissue in this topographical region. Herein we present a histopathological case report of a 60-year-old male with a slow-growing painless mass on the middle third of the right lateral lingual margin, with focal ulceration measuring 1x1.5cm. After gross excision, histopathology reveal

A 20-year-old girl came to the Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital because of progressive herniation of her right eye for 3 months. Examination revealed a huge mass behind the right eyeball, which was clinically diagnosed as a space-occupying lesion of the right orbit. Because the tumor was close to the nerve, most of the tumor was resected and pathologically diagnosed as a poorly differentiated leiomyosarcoma. Orbital evisceration was performed later. There was no recurrence during the 10-year follow-up.

Adrenal leiomyosarcomas are rare mesenchymal tumors of the suprarenal region that are usually diagnosed after they have reached a large size. We report the case of a 62-year-old male with an incidentally found left adrenal mass. Magnetic resonance imaging of the retroperitoneal space showed a heterogeneously enhanced mass, measuring 10x8.2 cm, with characteristics suspicious of malignancy. The patient underwent left radical adrenalectomy after the hormonal evaluation of the tumor due to the high probability of adrenocortical carcinoma. However, microscopic examination of the tumor showed a spi

Adrenal incidentalomas are common neoplasms and while they are often benign, they have the potential to be malignant. The American Urological Association guidelines state that adrenal incidentalomas should be surgically resected if they are large, metabolically active, or display malignant characteristics. Other groups have suggested that growth kinetics be factored in as well. We present a case of an adult woman with adrenal incidentaloma which was subsequently discovered to be a primary adrenal leiomyosarcoma, a rare subtype of soft tissue tumors.

A 54-year-old woman visited another hospital with complaining of a palpable mass in vagina and dysuria. The mass had gradually enlarged since the past 2 years. Ultrasonography and CT revealed the tumor located between the urethra and vaginal mucosa. Histopathological examination was well-differentiated leiomyosarcoma from transvaginal needle biopsy. She was referred to our hospital. On MRI, the 4-cm tumor showed no infiltration into the vaginal mucosa or urethra. PET/CT showed a high uptake of FDG. No metastatic disease was evident. We performed excision of the tumor transvaginally. The tumor

Paratesticular leiomyosarcoma is a rare entity. Greater than 95% of tumors arising within the scrotal sac are testicular in origin. Of the paratesticular tumors, rhabdomyosarcoma accounts for nearly half of malignant masses. Paratesticular leiomyosarcoma is infrequently encountered, resulting in a relative paucity of literature regarding this tumor type. Here we present a case report of a leiomyosarcoma arising from the spermatic cord in a 71-year-old man and review the literature regarding paratesticular leiomyosarcoma presentation, diagnosis and treatment.

A 78-year-old female complained high fever and vomiting. The ultrasonographic examination revealed a giant tumor above the left kidney. She was referred to our hospital for further examinations and treatments. Radiographic examination showed a solid mass of 10 cm in diameter, smooth surface, and sharply-delimited, above the left kidney corresponding to the left adrenal gland. Other organs showed no evidence of disease. Hormonal examination was normal. She was diagnosed as left non-functioning adrenal tumor, and underwent surgery. The resected specimen was 11 x 10 x 7 cm, 460 g with a part of n

BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcoma are malignant tumours of the soft tissues. It is most commonly found in the stomach, small intestine and retroperitoneum. Primary pancreatic leiomyosarcoma is extremely rare and only 22 cases have been reported in the literature since 1951. Its prognosis is poor and the palliative treatment is only aimed at symptomatic improvement.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report case of primary pancreatic leiomyosarcoma with liver metastases in a 73 year old man who presented with weight loss, epigastric pain, anorexia, abdominal fullness and obstructive jaundice. Histological examina

A 67 year-old man was admitted to the Tainan Municipal Hospital due to a protruding mass, usually noted during defecation. Digital examination revealed a single, smooth, large mass over the rectum, occupying almost the entire lumen. Colonoscopy, barium enema, and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a submucosal tumor of the rectum. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) study showed that the tumor originated from the muscle layer. Based on the size, margin and echogenicity of the mass, a malignant neoplasm, probably leiomyosarcoma, was diagnosed. Post-operative histologic examination confirmed that the

BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcoma of the uterus is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis. Total abdominal hysterectomy is considered the treatment of choice. Occasionally, the diagnosis is made on myomectomy specimen, and in young patients the role of conservative management is not well defined.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1982 and 1996, eight patients with a diagnosis of uterine leiomyosarcoma following myomectomy were conservatively managed at our institution. Median age of the patients was 29 years (range 19-32 years), and all were nulliparous. The tumor was confined to a myoma in all patient

A case of duodenal leiomyosarcoma presenting as a cystic mass is reported. Amylase, tumour markers levels in the cyst fluid and radiological findings suggested an inflammatory pancreatic pseudocyst. Exploratory laparotomy and frozen section examination showed a smooth muscle tumour of the duodenum. Pancreatoduodenectomy with pylorus-preser vation was performed and the patient remained symptom-free at 8 months follow-up.

We report a case of leiomyosarcoma of the kidney, presenting in the course of xeroderma pigmentosum, which debuted clinically as Wünderlich's syndrome due to spontaneous rupture of the tumor. We describe the case history and discuss the cutaneous disorder, analyzing the clinical and etiopathogenic factors, and conclude with an attempt to establish a relationship between the two pathologies.

A 10-year-old intact female Rottweiler dog weighing 29 kg presented with 2 days history of vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy to KonKuk University Teaching Hospital, Seoul, South Korea. Ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) scannings revealed a well-demarcated, large mass (29 × 19 × 11 cm) with numerous fluid-filled cavities. Metastases to adjacent lymph nodes were also identified on CT. This large mass and the affected intestinal segments were excised for palliative purposes. Postoperatively, the dog recovered uneventfully without any complications. The cut surface of the mass showed an

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary bronchial leiomyosarcoma is an extremely rare malignant tumour of the lung originating from the mesenchymal tissue. The retroperitoneal region is the most common site of leiomyosarcoma. It exhibits a high degree of malignancy and a poor prognosis, thereby highlighting the significance of early diagnosis of this disease.
CASE DEMONSTRATION: A 61-year-old male with a smoking history of 40 + years was admitted to the hospital due to cough, expectoration, and shortness of breath that extended for half a year, which aggravated for two months and was succeeded by intermittent
