Comprehensive Management of Obstetric Rectal Buttonhole Tears: Insights From a Case Report and Literature Analysis.

BACKGROUND Obstetric rectal buttonhole tears (ORBT) are rare and underreported complications during vaginal births. They offen go undiagnosed, as they appear with intact perineum or with a low-degree perineal laceration. If missed, they can progress to a rectovaginal fistula. They are not a part of the Sultan classification and there is no consensus on their management. Various repair techniques have been proposed, but the limited evidence and experience make it challenging to standardize an approach. CASE REPORT We present a case of a 2-cm ORBT with intact anal sphincters revealed after a dig

Artificial intelligence for human gunshot wound classification.

Certain features are helpful in the identification of gunshot entrance and exit wounds, such as the presence of muzzle imprints, peripheral tears, stippling, bone beveling, and wound border irregularity. Some cases are less straightforward and wounds can thus pose challenges to an emergency room doctor or forensic pathologist. In recent years, deep learning has shown promise in various automated medical image classification tasks. This study explores the feasibility of using a deep learning model to classify entry and exit gunshot wounds in digital color images. A collection of 2418 images of

Effects of digital health interventions on muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical function in older adults with sarcopenia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Sarcopenia, an age-related progressive muscle disorder, is characterized by low muscle strength. While digital health technologies are emerging as a management tool, systematic evidence of their comprehensive effects on older adults diagnosed with sarcopenia is lacking. We therefore aimed to comprehensively evaluate the effects of digital health interventions (DHIs) on muscle mass, muscle strength, physical function, and quality of life in this specific population. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for randomized

[New concept of computer-based documentation of retinal findings in retinopathy of prematurity].

BACKGROUND: Pathological findings and clinical course of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) are often documented with hand drawings. The use of software-based standardised symbols for ROP staging leads to improved documentation quality. METHODS: We developed graphical symbols for all ROP stages as well as plus disease. All of the symbols were integrated into a java-based application as a particular ROP category of a complete symbol library for retinal changes. The symbols can be placed on a schematic retina with a mouse click. Using anchors each symbol can be individually adapted to the specifi

Reference-Label Construction and Annotation Reporting in CT- and MRI-Based Adipose Tissue Segmentation: A Systematic Review and Evidence Map.

CT/MRI adipose tissue segmentation underpins body-composition and medical-imaging AI research, yet reference labels are often described only as "manual," "expert," or "reference" segmentations, obscuring heterogeneity in ground-truth construction. To systematically review how reference labels, annotation procedures, validation standards, and reproducibility-relevant reporting are defined in CT- and MRI-based adipose tissue segmentation studies. The review protocol was prospectively registered in OSF Registries before the formal multi-database search. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus,
