Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma involving a longstanding fibrous meningioma: an initial manifestation of systemic disease.

The combined presence of meningioma and lymphoma involving the dura is exceptionally rare. A 62-year-old woman, radiologically diagnosed with meningioma 14 years prior but never treated, presented with headaches and visual symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated significant growth of the mass. Surgical resection yielded a composite meningioma and marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. Subsequent systemic workup revealed bone marrow involvement. Low-grade lymphomas rarely metastasize to the central nervous system. When they do, it is usually a result of large cell transformation and typically

Is bone marrow biopsy always indicated in patients with primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma?

Bone marrow involvement at the time of diagnosis is uncommon in patients with primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (PCMZL). Moreover, in these patients such involvement is rarely found in isolation on diagnosis. Typically the few patients with PCMZL who have early bone marrow involvement also present secondary nodal or visceral involvement, which is detected by other staging studies (usually computed tomography). In recent years, this has given rise to some debate about whether a bone marrow biopsy should be routinely performed in patients diagnosed with PCMZL in view of the good pr

Primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma with anetoderma: spontaneous involution plus de novo clonal expansion.

We describe a rare case of primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (PCMZL) in a 33-year-old male affected by hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related chronic active hepatitis. The patient presented with multiple cutaneous papulonodular lesions characterized by polymorphic immunomorphology, with inverse pattern of immunoglobulin light chain restriction in two different lesions, coupled with mucin deposition and anetoderma in a third lesion. The involution of lesions of PCMZL with secondary anetoderma has been previously described, but this has not been reported in the context of multiple lesions

Synchronous Presence of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Marginal Zone (MALT-Type) B-Cell Lymphoma in the Pharynx.

Synchronous malignancy of squamous cell carcinoma and malignant lymphoma in the head and neck region is extremely rare. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a nonlymphomatous, squamous cell carcinoma that occurs in the nasopharyngeal epithelium. Reported herein is a unique case of nasopharyngeal carcinoma occurring simultaneously with MALT-type lymphoma in an 83-year-old woman, who complained of deglutition dysfunction. Endoscopic examination of respective organs revealed a submucosal tumour on the posterior wall of pharynx. Biopsy of the hypopharynx was taken and sent for histological examination, whi

A case of monoclonal gammopathy in extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the small intestine.

Monoclonal gammopathy occurs in one-third of the patients with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT lymphoma). However, monoclonal gammopathy has been rarely reported in Korea. Paraprotenemia accompanying MALT lymphoma is strongly correlated with involvement of the bone marrow, and this involvement leads to the progression of the disease. Here, we present a case of a 66-yr-old man diagnosed with IgM monoclonal gammopathy and stage IV extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of the small intestine, with the involvement of the bone marrow.

Low grade marginal zone B-cell lymphoma presenting as local amyloidosis in a submandibular salivary gland.

An unusual case of a low grade marginal zone B-cell lymphoma is reported and the literature reviewed. This case demonstrates that a diagnosis of lymphoma must be considered when there is amyloidosis in an otherwise asymptomatic submandibular salivary gland mass.

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue arising in the lateral ventricle.

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are a well-described type of low-grade B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. They typically arise adjacent to mucosal surfaces in the gastrointestinal tract, lung and conjunctiva, and, less frequently, in the skin, salivary gland and thyroid gland. Unusual locations, such as the genitourinary tract, thymus and meninges, have also been reported. We recently encountered a case of an intracranial MALT lymphoma in a 53-year-old man who presented with persistent headaches and a seizure. The lesion developed as a

Subglottic tracheal stenosis as primary manifestation of a marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the larynx.

BACKGROUND: More than 90% of laryngeal tumors are squamous cell carcinomas. Primary hematopoetic neoplasms of the larynx are rare, being mainly extramedullary plasmocytoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). These are mainly located in the supraglottic and glottic area, with only a few reported in the subglottic region. CASE REPORT: We report on a 58-year-old man, who presented at our clinic with severe dyspnea. On microlaryngoscopy, a subglottic stenosis at the level of the cricoid cartilage was found. The biopsy revealed the diagnosis of a MALT-type lymphoma (marginal zone B-cell lymphoma). T

Primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma: a molecular and clinicopathologic study of 24 asian cases.

Cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma is a recently proposed entity and constitutes a cutaneous counterpart of extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). Borrelia burgdorferi infection has been suggested as a possible causative agent in European cutaneous cases of marginal zone B-cell lymphoma, whereas API2-MALT1 fusion and BCL10 mutation are highly associated with MALT lymphoma. Aberrant nuclear BCL10 expression may be closely correlated with API2-MALT1 fusion in gastric and pulmonary MALT lymphomas. We examined 24 Asian cases of cutaneous marginal

Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the salivary gland arising in chronic sclerosing sialadenitis (Küttner tumor).

We report a case of extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type of the salivary gland arising in a background of chronic sclerosing sialadenitis. Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis is a common fibrosing chronic inflammatory lesion of the submandibular gland, which is thought to be the result of sialolithiasis, and is not associated with a systemic autoimmune disease. Salivary MALT lymphomas are typically associated with lymphoepithelial sialadenitis (LESA) in a patient with or without Sjögren's syndrome. Our case of salivary MALT lymphoma was neither

A marginal zone pattern may be found in different varieties of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: the morphology and immunohistology of splenic involvement by B-cell lymphomas simulating splenic marginal zone lymphoma.

AIMS: Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) is characterized by a micronodular infiltrate of the splenic white pulp, centred on pre-existing follicles, with a peripheral rim of 'marginal' zone B-cells, always accompanied by a variable degree of red pulp infiltration. These histological features can be closely mimicked by a variety of other small B-cell lymphomas when they involve the spleen, which makes recognition of SMZL difficult. We therefore have compared the histopathological and immunohistochemical features of other non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) types with those of SMZL. METHODS AND RES

Large B-cell lymphoma of thyroid. Two cases with a marginal zone distribution of the neoplastic cells.

We report 2 cases of B-cell lymphoma of the thyroid in which although a marginal zone distribution of the neoplastic cells was present, the cytologic features of the cells indicated large cell lymphoma. One of the cases showed an accumulation of crystalline inclusions within the cytoplasm of the neoplastic cells. Many of these inclusion-bearing cells showed plasmacytoid features. By immunohistochemical studies performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, both of the cases showed a B-cell phenotype as indicated by CD20 expression, and 1 showed kappa light chain restriction. In both cas

Splenic marginal zone B-cell and thymic T-cell lymphomas in p53-deficient mice.

The molecular pathology and histogenesis of lymphomas in 56 retired breeder male and 14 12-week-old male homozygous p53-deficient (p53-/-) mice (C57BL/6TacfBR-[KO]p53 N4) were evaluated. Lymphomas were assessed by serial morphologic techniques, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and analysis of T cell receptor (TCR) or immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) gene rearrangements. We found two common types of lymphomas. T-cell lymphomas arose in the thymus through a sequence of lymphocyte depletion, medullary hyperplasia, and unilateral lymphoma. Tumor cells were CD3+, CD90+, and usually TCRalpha/be

Marginal zone B cell lymphomas with extensive plasmacytic differentiation are neoplasms of precursor plasma cells.

Occasional marginal zone lymphomas have extensive plasmacytic differentiation (P-MZL). We present an argument based on our data and previous published observations that P-MZL represent neoplasms of precursor plasma cells. Five P-MZL were analyzed by flow cytometry and the phenotype was compared with conventional MZL, plasma cell myeloma (PCM), reactive plasmacytoses (RP), and normal marrow plasma cells. The clonal cells in four of five P-MZL were CD19+, CD20(dim/⁻), CD38(bright), CD45++, CD56⁻, CD138⁻, and surface light chain(dim/⁻). One case was CD56+, CD138+, and CD19⁻. A separate clonal mat

Cytogenetic evidence for the origin of neoplastic cells in CD5-positive marginal zone B-cell lymphoma.

We describe an 87-year-old female patient presenting with a breast lump and axillary lymphadenopathy. Histological examination revealed the lump to be a CD5-positive extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZBCL) of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue. Subsequent staging revealed disseminated disease including the head and neck region. Only 2 cases of CD5-positive MZBCL have undergone any form of cytogenetic analysis, and we report the first standard karyotype of such a case. This revealed partial trisomy 3,7q deletion and an additional marker chromosome. Notably, cells lacked the t(11;14) fou

Concurrent lung squamous cell carcinoma and extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type.

The coexistence of primary lung cancer and lymphoma is a rare finding. We present a case of a 66-year-old woman with marginal B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type with lung, mediastinal lymph node, and bone marrow involvement. Surveillance imaging after treatment for lymphoma revealed persistent uptake by positron emission tomography scan. A transbronchial biopsy revealed the marginal B-cell lymphoma and a well-differentiated invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Management was changed to address new pathologic findings.

Extranodal Marginal Zone B-cell Lymphoma Presenting as a Painless Buccal Mass in the Masticator Space.

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (EMZL, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type) is an indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma that only rarely arises in deep facial spaces. Primary masticator-space involvement is particularly uncommon and can mimic benign buccal soft-tissue lesions. We report a 67-year-old woman with a 4-year history of a painless, slowly enlarging left cheek mass. Examination showed a soft, mobile 3-cm buccal swelling with normal overlying skin and no intraoral lesion. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated an infiltrative soft-tissue mass measuring 3.1 × 1.5 × 3.5

Nodal marginal zone lymphoma: genetic analysis and the differential diagnosis from other small B-cell lymphomas.

Nodal marginal zone lymphoma (NMZL) is a rare indolent B-cell lymphoma without a disease-defining phenotype. The distinction from other small B-cell lymphomas is challenging, especially from t(14;18)-negative follicular lymphoma (FL). To find out whether molecular analysis could help in separating NMZL from other small B-cell lymphomas, we analyzed a cohort of 52 cases with the diagnosis or differential diagnosis of NMZL using targeted next generation sequencing and gene expression profiling (GEP). After morphological and mutational analysis, 38 (73%) cases were classified as NMZL, 8 (15%) cas

Response‑adapted involved site radiation therapy for hepatic marginal zone B‑cell lymphoma: A case report.

Hepatic marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZL) is a rare and challenging entity that is often misinterpreted as hepatocellular carcinoma owing to its non-specific radiological features. The current case report details the clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment of an older adult female with hepatic MZL involving both lobes, complicated by Sjögren's syndrome and common variable immunodeficiency. Given the patient's immunodeficiency and the risks associated with chemotherapy, involved site radiotherapy (ISRT) was administered as the primary treatment. Using a response-adapted approach, an in
