Probing the application range and selectivity of a differential mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry platform for metabolomics.

Metabolomics applications of differential mobility spectrometry (DMS)-mass spectrometry (MS) have largely concentrated on targeted assays and the removal of isobaric or chemical interferences from the signals of a small number of analytes. In the work reported here, we systematically investigated the application range of a DMS-MS method for metabolomics using more than 800 authentic metabolite standards as the test set. The coverage achieved with the DMS-MS platform was comparable to that achieved with chromatographic methods. High orthogonality was observed between hydrophilic interaction liq

Mobile Application to Promote Adherence to Oral Chemotherapy and Symptom Management: A Protocol for Design and Development.

BackgroundOral chemotherapy is increasingly used in place of traditional intravenous chemotherapy to treat patients with cancer. While oral chemotherapy includes benefits such as ease of administration, convenience, and minimization of invasive infusions, patients receive less oversight, support, and symptom monitoring from clinicians. Additionally, adherence is a well-documented challenge for patients with cancer prescribed oral chemotherapy regimens. With the ever-growing presence of smartphones and potential for efficacious behavioral intervention technology, we created a mobile health inte

[Impact of two nutritional monitoring strategies: conventional monitoring vs telemonitoring with a mobile application].

INTRODUCTION: Treatment engagement is a key factor in the success of weight loss programs. Digital tools such as mobile applications have shown potential to improve nutritional follow-up, although their real impact still requires empirical validation. METHODOLOGY: An open-label experimental study with random allocation to two parallel groups was conducted among adult patients with overweight or obesity attending the Nutrition Service of Clínica Universitaria Reina Fabiola (CURF), Córdoba, Argentina. One group received conventional nutritional follow-up (biweekly in-person visits), while the o

Development and application of web-based and mobile tools for risk-driven rabies control in Thailand.

Rabies is a life-threatening zoonotic disease, with most human cases resulting from dog-mediated transmission. In Thailand, upon the detection of an index canine rabies case, local veterinary authorities are mandated to implement ring vaccination within a 5-km radius. However, the effectiveness of this fixed control zone may vary depending on local conditions. This study developed a spatial-epidemic model to simulate rabies outbreaks in four provinces representing different regions of Thailand: Chiang Rai, Surin, Chonburi, and Songkhla. The model comprised two key components-dog movement analy

Automatic Assessment of Upper Extremity Function and Mobile Application for Self-Administered Stroke Rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation training is essential for a successful recovery of upper extremity function after stroke. Training programs are typically conducted in hospitals or rehabilitation centers, supervised by specialized medical professionals. However, frequent visits to hospitals can be burdensome for stroke patients with limited mobility. We consider a self-administered rehabilitation system based on a mobile application in which patients can periodically upload videos of themselves performing reach-to-grasp tasks to receive recommendations for self-managed exercises or progress reports. Sensing equ

Influence of compost application rate on nutrient and heavy metal mobility: Implications for stormwater management.

Amending soils with compost has become increasingly common in stormwater management practices. Compost can be a source and sink for nutrients and heavy metals, and it is important to understand the effect of compost on pollutant leaching under different hydrologic conditions. The objectives of this study were (a) to quantify the distribution coefficient (Kd ) of PO4 -P and metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) for compost-soil blends and (b) to examine how compost rate alters leaching patterns of nutrients (NH4 -N, NO3 -N, PO4 -P) and metals from compost-soil blends. Material consisted of a sandy lo
