Multivariant analysis of men from infertile couples with and without antisperm antibodies.

PROBLEM: Research studies in animal and human systems have demonstrated conclusively that antisperm antibodies can interfere with fertilization. In the male, autoantibodies to sperm can be detected both in the sera and seminal plasma. METHOD OF STUDY: Ninety-seven men who were tested for antisperm antibodies as a part of an infertility evaluation were identified. Complete medical history was obtained, including information related to events suspected of being associated with antisperm antibodies. History of surgery (varicocele repair, hernia repair, and vas reversal) and infection (epididymit

Multivariate analysis of roentgenologic characteristics and risk factors for nonpalpable carcinoma of the breast.

Screening mammography improves carcinoma of the breast survival through early detection and treatment of nonpalpable, often noninvasive, carcinomas. Consideration of the roentgenologic characteristics of mammographic masses and calcifications in combination with risk factors of patients may improve the yield of spot localization breast biopsy. Risk factors solicited by questionnaire were correlated with the roentgenologic appearance and histopathologic factors of 482 specimens from spot localization breast biopsies (39 percent malignant). Masses with irregular contour (p < 0.001) and high dens

[Crises in old age. Trial with a multivariant analysis of adjustment strategies in crises].

After a short review of some relevant theories focusing mainly on their developmental aspects, an own model is proposed. This is statistically analysed by means of the LISREL-algorithm, which is applied to data concerning crises behavior in a problematic housing situation, and which were gained from the Bonn-Longitudinal Study of Aging. From the psychological point of view, especially those findings seem to be important which imply that an active and problem-oriented coping strategy is often joined but not overruled by a passive and problem-disoriented one, whereas, if a problem-disoriented st

Surface chemical differentiation of fingermark samples by ToF-SIMS and multivariate statistical analysis.

This study demonstrates the applicability of time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis (MVSA) for the chemical differentiation of fingermarks from eight donors. Multiple ToF-SIMS spectra were measured on a small area of each fingermark sample to assess whether chemical variability between the fingermark samples exceeded chemical variability within each individual one. Principal component analysis (PCA) enabled the separation of fingermark samples from different donors, while multivariate curve resolution (MCR) further resolved ind

Stage-Specific Associations Between Respiratory Pathogens and Mortality in Sheep: A Multivariate Analysis.

Ovine Respiratory Complex (ORC) is a major cause of lamb mortality in intensive and semi-intensive sheep production systems. Its multifactorial etiology, involving bacterial and viral pathogens together with host and environmental factors, complicates disease control and limits the effectiveness of conventional preventive measures. Although respiratory pathogens are commonly detected in healthy lambs, their contribution to mortality at different production stages remains poorly understood. This study evaluated the relationships between respiratory pathogens and lamb mortality using canonical m

Recovery trajectories across intensive psychiatric settings: a multivariate analysis characterized by baseline profiles.

BACKGROUND: Understanding recovery variability in intensive psychiatric care is crucial, as variable-centered analyses often obscure individual differences. AIMS: This study aimed to identify distinct recovery trajectories among adults in intensive psychiatric care settings and assess whether treatment modality or patient characteristics could predict trajectory membership. METHODS: We used a KML3D machine-learning approach to analyze longitudinal data from 169 adults across three acute care settings: inpatient hospitalization, Soteria homes, and tech-assisted home care. Recovery was modeled

Multivariate Pattern Analysis of Perfusion and Oxygenation Impairment in Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Hemodynamic impairment may contribute to stroke risk and cognitive decline in asymptomatic internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS). Therefore, multimodal MRI-based quantification of hemodynamic impairment could inform improved treatment decisions. While gross interhemispheric hemodynamic imbalances have been reported in ICAS, identifying more spatially resolved patterns of disease-related alterations may be promising to harness the full potential of hemodynamic MRI. METHODS: In this feasibility study, we investigated the spatial topography of ICAS-related impairments b

Severity-onset prediction of COVID-19 via artificial-intelligence analysis of multivariate factors.

Progression to a severe condition remains a major risk factor for the COVID-19 mortality. Robust models that predict the onset of severe COVID-19 are urgently required to support sensitive decisions regarding patients and their treatments. In this study, we developed a multivariate survival model based on early-stage CT images and other physiological indicators and biomarkers using artificial-intelligence analysis to assess the risk of severe COVID-19 onset. We retrospectively enrolled 338 adult patients admitted to a hospital in China (severity rate, 31.9%; mortality rate, 0.9%). The physiolo

Multivariate Curve Resolution Alternating Least Squares Analysis of In Vivo Skin Raman Spectra.

In recent years, Raman spectroscopy has been used to study biological tissues. However, the analysis of experimental Raman spectra is still challenging, since the Raman spectra of most biological tissue components overlap significantly and it is difficult to separate individual components. New methods of analysis are needed that would allow for the decomposition of Raman spectra into components and the evaluation of their contribution. The aim of our work is to study the possibilities of the multivariate curve resolution alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) method for the analysis of skin tissu

Analysis of multivariate longitudinal immuno-epidemiological data using a pairwise joint modelling approach.

BACKGROUND: Immuno-epidemiologists are often faced with multivariate outcomes, measured repeatedly over time. Such data are characterised by complex inter- and intra-outcome relationships which must be accounted for during analysis. Scientific questions of interest might include determining the effect of a treatment on the evolution of all outcomes together, or grouping outcomes that change in the same way. Modelling the different outcomes separately may not be appropriate because it ignores the underlying relationships between outcomes. In such situations, a joint modelling strategy is necess
