The International journal of eating disorders1997eng
OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the comorbidity of obsessive compulsive disorder and obsessive compulsive personality disorder with the dieting disorders. A comorbid sample was examined in order to test the hypothesis that obsessive compulsive symptoms and personality are premorbid in these patients.
METHOD: Sixty-eight inpatients (35 with anorexia nervosa and 33 with bulimia nervosa) were assessed for DSM-III-R Axis 1 and Axis 11 obsessive compulsive psychopathology using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) and the Personality Disorders Inventory (PDE), respectively.

The present study examine the extent to which attentional resources are allocated toward distracting affective and disorder-relevant pictures under task-relevant competition in participants with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD; N = 33) and controls (N = 31). Competition between cues was examined using a foreground task where participants detected coherent motion in a flickering random dot kinematogram (RDK) overlaid on pictures ranging in emotional content (pleasant, neutral, unpleasant, and OCD-evoking pictures). Steady-state visual evoked potentials (ssVEPs) were measured in response to t

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) defines obsessions in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as recurrent thoughts, urges, or images that are intrusive, unwanted, and distressing. Because the manual does not include an explicit ego-dystonicity requirement, its definition risks conflating anxiety-driven intrusions with gratification-driven impulses. This ambiguity carries significant forensic implications. When violent ideation is emotionally gratifying, it may still be described as distressing or unwanted, in a practical sense. In

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is associated with functional alterations in how the striatum interacts with the rest of the brain. However, the characterization of these changes in OCD is incomplete. Mapping functional striatal gradients provides a new opportunity to fill this knowledge gap. These gradients provide a spatial representation of continuous changes in whole-brain connectivity within striatal regions. Thus, OCD-related differences in striatal gradients imply changes in the functional organization of striatal connections.
METHODS: We calculated spatial striatal gra

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as a consequence of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been reported in a limited number of case studies. Informed by CARE guidelines, we present the case of a boy in his late adolescence who sustained a severe TBI from a motor vehicle crash. His injuries required a prolonged stay in the hospital, including 3 weeks in the intensive care unit and a craniotomy to evacuate a large subdural haematoma. Obsessive-compulsive behaviours were first observed on discharge from the hospital and became worse over time. Compulsive behaviours were considered in light

BACKGROUND: This review provides an overview of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms, including the four partially distinct subtypes of the disorder, current diagnostic criteria, and common comorbidities. Critically, it focuses on the etiology of OCD, including its underlying neuropathology, and examines cognitive dysfunction in OCD.
METHODS: This review study was conducted by library method.
RESULTS: We show how dysfunction in cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) circuits may underpin symptoms; and shed light on the putative neurochemistry within these loops such as the role of s

OBJECTIVE: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a collection of chemical and clinical risk factors. Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) might be at risk of MetS. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and clinical correlates of MetS in an Iranian clinical sample of patients with OCD.
METHODS: We included 107 patients with OCD in a cross-sectional study. Demographic and clinical characteristics including OC symptoms, duration of treatment, age of onset, medications history, and comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders were collected.
RESULTS: The prevalence of MetS was 39.2%

In adult patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), altered DNA methylation has been discerned in several candidate genes, while DNA methylation on an epigenome-wide level has been investigated in only one Chinese study so far. Here, an epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) was performed in a sample of 76 OCD patients of European ancestry (37 women, age ± SD: 33.51 ± 10.92 years) and 76 sex- and age-matched healthy controls for the first time using the Illumina MethylationEPIC BeadChip. After quality control, nine epigenome-wide significant quantitative trait methylation sites (QTMs)

The aim was to examine the clinical features of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in preschool and the effectiveness of aripiprazole with a standardized Cognitive-Behavioral Family Therapy (CBFT) in the treatment of preschoolers with OCD. Twelve preschool children, 36-72 months of age were diagnosed with OCD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the Fifth Edition criteria by a fellowship-trained child and adolescent psychiatrist. They were evaluated with Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Present and Lifetime ve

BACKGROUND: The role of memory in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been an area of research that has yielded mixed results, particularly in prospective memory (PM) functioning. Hence, one objective of the study was to assess PM deficits in patients with OCD. Also, research in this area has been sparse, and most researchers have used questionnaires and people with subclinical symptoms of OCD, which might have impacted the generalizability of the findings. Thus, the second objective was to assess PM functioning using a performance-based task in persons with OCD having clinical symptoms.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by problems of control over behavior and cognition. Although almost all of the studies on pathogenesis of OCD point out fronto-striatal dysfunction, it is still not possible to reveal mechanisms to explain the entire clinical course of OCD through these circuits. A more holistic explanation can be given through the Embodied Cognition (EC) perspective, which suggests that the alteration/dysfunction of low-level sensory-motor process may appear as a multifarious extent of dysfunction of high-level cognitive processes. Fronto-striatal circuits

Treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (trOCD) is a severely disabling, life-threatening psychiatric disorder affecting ∼0.5% of the US population. Following the failure of multiple medical and psychotherapeutic treatment lines, patients with trOCD, like others with functional disorders, may benefit from invasive neuromodulation. Cumulative evidence suggests that disrupting abnormal hyperdirect cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) pathway activity offers sustainable, robust symptomatic relief in most patients. Multiple surgical approaches allow for modulation of the CSTC pathway,

INTRODUCTION: Most studies on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) among children and adolescents pertain to adolescents and Indian data on childhood-onset OCD are scant.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical profile of OCD among children and adolescents with onset before the age of 12 years.
METHODS: Children and adolescents who attended the outpatient clinic with a clinical diagnosis of OCD were included in the study. Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS) was used to assess the phenomenology and severity of OCD. The diagnoses of OCD and comorbid disorders were based on DS

BACKGROUND: Although an attentional bias for threat is implicated in anxiety disorders, such a bias has not been consistently observed in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This inconsistency is partially due to a paucity of studies employing robust attentional tasks. The emotional attentional blink (EAB), a phenomenon in which the brief appearance of a task-irrelevant, emotionally arousing image captures attention to such an extent that target stimuli cannot be detected, have increasing been employed as more robust tasks of attentional biases.
METHODS: In the present study, patients with O

Videos on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are widely available on YouTube. Individuals with OCD and their caregivers would likely watch these videos to understand this disorder. Videos presenting the information related to symptomatology and available treatment accurately and in an easy-to-understand manner would benefit the patients and the caregivers. On the other hand, inaccurate information may create confusion. Given this, the present research is aimed at analyzing the content, accuracy, and appropriateness of the YouTube videos on OCD. The quality of the YouTube videos on OCD, in ter

There is a paucity of literature on neuropsychological functions in youth with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Most studies have small sample sizes and have yielded inconsistent results. A recent meta-analysis failed to identify any significant impairments. We studied neuropsychological functions (attention, verbal fluency, working memory, set-shifting, response inhibition, planning and visuospatial abilities) in a large sample of youth with OCD (n = 97) in comparison with controls who did not have OCD (n = 50). After controlling for the confounding effects (age, sex, severity of depressi

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is among the most disabling psychiatric disorders. Although deep brain stimulation is considered an effective treatment, its use in clinical practice is not fully established. This is, at least in part, due to ambiguity about the best suited target and insufficient knowledge about underlying mechanisms. Recent advances suggest that changes in broader brain networks are responsible for improvement of obsessions and compulsions, rather than local impact at the stimulation site. These findings were fueled by innovative methodological approaches using brain connectivi
