DVI missions in the Carribean-the practical aspects of disaster victim identification.

Human trafficking of young men from Africa to Europe is a crime with often devastating consequences. The African continent loses members of the younger generation and many die during the attempt to reach their destinations. The identification of these victims is often difficult, however the structured and by now well-established procedures utilizing standard disaster victim identification protocols provide a reliable and functional approach. The logistics involved are straightforward, and one of the many functions of the team leader is to monitor and control the flow of cases through the syste

Healthy children ready to learn: an essential collaboration between health and education.

The "Healthy Children Ready to Learn" initiative starts with the underlying concept that health is a critical partner to optimum education. All children have a right to be healthy. At a minimum, this right assumes promoting optimum use of available and effective preventive measures, such as ensuring compliance with immunization recommendations; promoting measures to prevent injuries; ensuring opportunities to identify disease and disabilities early; and providing prompt treatment when needed. Families must receive the support and assistance they need to raise healthy and educated children. Act

The development and validation of a new multidimensional Job Insecurity Measure (JIM): an inductive methodology.

This study outlines the development and validation of a new 4-dimensional job insecurity measure (JIM). Items were generated from interviews with Australian employees facing an objective threat of job loss. The measure was then validated on a North American sample of 1,004 respondents. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA) with tests of sample invariance supported an 18-item measurement model consisting of 4 correlated but distinct subscales of insecurity: Job Loss, Job Changes, Marginalization, and Organizational Survival. The results indicate convergent and discriminant

When Personalization Does Not Change Care: A Critical Narrative Review and an Organizational Decoupling Framework.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Patient-centred practices do not by themselves show whether an individual's priorities influence care. This review asks how organizational decoupling theory can inform a traceable response to those priorities and locate a loss of influence. METHODS: A theory-informed critical narrative review used a purposive analytical bibliography of 63 publications. The authors' preliminary categories, professional experience, and organizational theory guided interpretation. A source-to-claim matrix separates published findings, conceptual arguments, and proposed mechanisms. The fram

Performance-based payment models and value-based health care: a semi-systematic review through theoretical lenses.

OBJECTIVES: To identify and critically examine the theoretical lenses applied in the literature to conceptualize performance-based and value-based payment models, and to analyze how these frameworks explain their behavioral, organizational, and system-level effects. METHODS: A semi-systematic review was conducted in July 2025 across Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, and CINAHL, using a structured search strategy and transparent selection procedures following PRISMA 2020 reporting principles. Eligible empirical and theoretical studies on value- or performance-based payment were e

Repeated exposure to trauma narratives and professional quality of life in palliative and end-of-life healthcare providers.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined how repeated exposure to trauma narratives influences professional quality of life, including burnout, secondary traumatic stress (STS), and compassion satisfaction (CS), among end-of-life healthcare providers. The moderating roles of resilience and both organizational and personal support were also tested. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was completed by 507 healthcare providers working in hospice, oncology, or other end-of-life settings. Participants completed validated self-report measures assessing exposure to trauma narratives (Vicarious Trauma Sc

Variable penetration of primary angioplasty in Europe--what determines the implementation rate?

Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) is the recommended treatment for patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). A survey conducted in 2008 in the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) countries reported that the annual incidence of hospital admissions for acute STEMI is around 800 patients per million inhabitants. The survey also showed that STEMI patients' access to reperfusion therapy and the use of PPCI or thrombolytic therapy (TT) vary considerably among countries. Northern, Western and Central Europe already had well-developed PPCI services, offer

Professionalism and human resource management of donor coordinators: results of an international comparison.

Through our earlier international survey on professionalism with donor coordinators in 38 countries, we identified 5 factors that comprise professionalism and demonstrated that, of these 5 factors, "pursuit of excellence" significantly affects job performance and sense of fulfillment among donor coordinators. In the present study we conducted an international comparison concerning professionalism and organizational actions to foster coordinators' professionalism and identify implications for Japan. Japan scored significantly lower than other countries in the "pursuit of excellence" factor of p

Nurse Adaptability and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms During the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Effects of Family and Perceived Organizational Support.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of family and perceived organizational support on the relationship between nurse adaptability and their experience with COVID-related PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) symptoms in frontline nurses working on COVID-19 units. BACKGROUND: Proximity to and survival of life-threatening events contribute to a diagnosis of PTSD, which is characterized by avoidance of reminders of trauma, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks of events, sleep disturbances, and hypervigilance. Using the job-demands and resource model, we examined the effect of adaptability, family support

The effect of recognizability on figure-ground processing: does it affect parsing or only figure selection?

Though figure-ground assignment has been shown to be probably affected by recognizability, it appears sensible that object recognition must follow at least the earlier process of figure-ground segregation. To examine whether or not rudimentary object recognition could, counterintuitively, start even before the completion of the stage of parsing in which figure-ground segregation is done, participants were asked to respond, in a go/no-go fashion, whenever any out of 16 alternative connected patterns (that constituted familiar stimuli in the upright orientation) appeared. The white figure of the

Affected Psychological Safety, Micromanagement, and the Risks of Full Time Return to Office Policies.

The objective of this article is to discuss organizational mandates for full return-to-office work. Concerns are emerging about the unintended impact on employee psychological safety, trust in employees' quality of work, well-being, and financial burden. This article outlines differences in hybrid work opportunities available to corporate and administrative staff with the limited flexibility of patient-facing healthcare professionals. It argues that rigid return-to-office mandates, particularly when combined with increased managerial oversight, can undermine autonomy, morale, engagement, and p

Organizational factors and office workers' health after the World Trade Center terrorist attacks: long-term physical symptoms, psychological distress, and work productivity.

OBJECTIVE: To assess if organizational factors are predictors of workers' health and productivity after the World Trade Center attacks. METHODS: We conducted a survey of 750 workers and compared those who had direct exposures to the World Trade Center attacks (south of Canal Street workers; primary victims) with those less directly exposed (north of Canal Street workers; other victims and non-victims). RESULTS: South of Canal Street workers reported headache more frequently than north of Canal Street workers did (P = 0.0202). Primary victims reported headache and cough more frequently than d

Psychosocial working conditions and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress among nurses: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Adverse psychosocial working conditions are increasingly recognized as organizational factors associated with nurses' mental health. However, researchers conducting studies simultaneously evaluating multiple psychosocial work dimensions and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress using comprehensive, validated instruments remain limited, particularly in Spanish nursing populations. OBJECTIVES: To examine the association between psychosocial working conditions and depression, anxiety, and stress among registered nurses. METHODS: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted
