The effect on in vitro migration of leucocytes and lymphocytes of various drugs used in anaesthesia have been determined in the concentration range 10(-2) to 10(-6) M. Ataranalgesia (ATA) is realized by the association of a strong morphinomimetic, a benzodiazepine (BZD) and a curare. An analysis of the course and complications in the ligation of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in 30 very low birth-weight preterm neonates was carried out. The mean gestational stage at birth was 26.97 weeks, and median weight was 811 gm. A case of acute myopathy was observed in the course of treatment of respiratory failure with mechanical ventilation combined with prolonged neuromuscular blockade and administration of corticosteroids. A muscle biopsy revealed degeneration of muscle fibres. Electron microscopy showed loss of thick filaments as well as nemaline rods, vacuoles and cytoplasmic bodies. The mitochondria were increased in number, many harbouring paracrystalline inclusions, which were hitherto unknown in this condition.

Five different dosage schemes for alfentanil administration supplemented with thiopentone, pancuronium and N2O/O2 have been studied in 25 patients undergoing elective cholecystectomy.
