BACKGROUND: The present systematic review aimed to investigate the drug susceptibility patterns of Iranian clinical Candida albicans isolates to antifungal drugs (azoles, polyenes, and echinocandins).
METHODS: Six electronic databases including "PubMed," "Scopus," "Web of Science," "IranDoc", "SID", and "Magiran" were searched from May 2000 to June 2021. The susceptibility of 6322 C. albicans strains from 19967 patients against 14 antifungal drugs was evaluated according to CLSI method.
RESULTS: The pooled prevalence of antifungal resistance ranged from 0% to 26%. The lowest resistance level

Pulmonary mold infections are life-threatening diseases with high morbi-mortalities. Treatment is based on systemic antifungal agents belonging to the families of polyenes (amphotericin B) and triazoles. Mucormycosis is an uncommon but severe fungal infection, typically observed in immunocompromized patients. We report a case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia complicated by rhino-oculo-cerebral mucormycosis in a pediatric patient. To determine nonscorbutic effects of moderate vitamin C deficiency we measured immune function and oxidative damage in eight healthy men (25-43 y) who consumed 5-250 mg/d of ascorbic acid over 92 d on a metabolic unit. Aspergillus fumigatus is the main mold causing invasive fungal infection that shows high mortality rates. Therapeutic failure and the increase in drug resistance make it necessary to explore alternative treatments for this infection. We have evaluated the efficacy of amphotericin B at 0.8 mg/kg or 0.3 mg/kg of body weight combined with 40 mg/kg of posaconazole against three A. fumigatus isolates in a murine model of disseminated infection. Far and away the most common fungal infection associated with HIV infection is candidiasis. This tends to produce mucosal topical infections and local treatment may be enough to control them. Generally we prefer courses of 1-2 weeks rather than chronic suppression, for fear of eliciting overgrowth of resistant isolates. Fluconazole resistant Candida species may be an increasing problem over the next decade. For cryptococcoses the problem is both simpler and more complicated. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we examined the toxicities, including poisoning and overdoses, with polyene, azole, flucytosine and echinocandin antifungals reported to the Swiss National Poison Centre.
METHODS: An observational cross-sectional study on antifungals was performed based on reports between 1995 and 2016 to Tox Info Suisse.
