Feasibility and acceptability of a personalised self-care support programme for primary care patients with diabetic foot ulcers delivered by wound care nurses: the HEALing study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are highly prevalent and recurrent complications of diabetes mellitus that have significant health and cost implications. Self-care is critical for preventing or delaying DFU and promoting healing, yet adherence to self-care recommendations is low. Interventions using motivational interviewing (MI) have been effective in supporting behaviour change and emotional adjustment, but evidence for DFU is scarce. This study will assess the acceptability, feasibility and preliminary efficacy of an MI-guided programme, Healing DFU through Empowerment and Active

Active listening, shared decision-making and participation in care among older women and primary care nurses: a critical discourse analysis approach from a gender perspective.

BACKGROUND: Nursing care for older women represent a challenge worldwide due to its characteristics. When communication is impaired between primary care nurses and older women living alone, an imbalance in power relations occurs. The main objective of this study is to analyse the power relations between older women and primary care nurses in situations of active listening, shared decision-making and participation in care. METHODS: We developed a qualitative study in southern Spain using a discursive and gender approach. We used purposeful sampling to interview older women who lived alone and

The short and long-term efficacy of nurse-led interventions for improving blood pressure control in people with hypertension in primary care settings: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Previous systematic reviews suggest that nurse-led interventions improve short-term blood pressure (BP) control for people with hypertension. However, the long-term effects, adverse events, and appropriate target BP level are unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of nurse-led interventions. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, and CINAHL, as well as three Japanese article databases, as relevant randomized controlled trials from the oldest possible to Ma

A Cost-Analysis and Micro-Costing Study of the Man Van Project: Comparing Prostate-Specific Antigen Testing Via a Nurse-Led Mobile Service with Primary Care.

BACKGROUND: The Man Van project is designed to address health inequalities and barriers to accessing healthcare related to the early diagnosis of prostate cancer with novel community-based targeting of high-risk groups using a mobile clinical unit. These inequalities are particularly relevant for men from ethnic minorities and lower socio-economic groups. We used a cost analysis with a micro-costing study to examine the costs of using the Man Van model for community-based prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing compared with primary care-based PSA testing over the course of a 2-year period. Weight assessment and the provision of weight management advice in primary care: a cross-sectional survey of self-reported practice among general practitioners and practice nurses in the United Kingdom.

BACKGROUND: Although primary care settings provide a large-scale and high-reach opportunity for weight management and obesity prevention, the proportion of adults in the United Kingdom (UK) who report receiving weight management advice is limited. This study examines the self-reported frequency of assessing weight and providing weight management advice by General Practitioners (GPs) and Practice Nurses (PNs) working in primary care in the UK, and differences by practitioner characteristics. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey with GPs and PNs in the UK (n = 2020), conducted January-March 2017. A

Acceptance of virtual patients as a continuous professional development approach among practicing nurses in primary health care settings in a low-income country: a quasi-experimental posttest setup design.

BACKGROUND: Virtual patients are an educational technological approach used in healthcare education. Its distinctive features have rendered virtual patient technology appealing for the training of medical and healthcare students, particularly in the enhancement of clinical reasoning. Virtual patients are less often applied for continuous professional development for practicing healthcare providers, and there is a scarcity of studies exploring this possibility. This study aimed to assess the acceptability of nurses for using virtual patients as a continuous professional development approach. M

A patient-centered nurse-supported primary care-based collaborative care program to treat opioid use disorder and depression: Design and protocol for the MI-CARE randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder (OUD) contributes to rising morbidity and mortality. Life-saving OUD treatments can be provided in primary care but most patients with OUD don't receive treatment. Comorbid depression and other conditions complicate OUD management, especially in primary care. The MI-CARE trial is a pragmatic randomized encouragement (Zelen) trial testing whether offering collaborative care (CC) to patients with OUD and clinically-significant depressive symptoms increases OUD medication treatment with buprenorphine and improves depression outcomes compared to usual care. Enhanced maternal and child health nurse care for women experiencing intimate partner/family violence: protocol for MOVE, a cluster randomised trial of screening and referral in primary health care.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) can result in significant harm to women and families and is especially prevalent when women are pregnant or recent mothers. Maternal and child health nurses (MCHN) in Victoria, Australia are community-based nurse/midwives who see over 95% of all mothers with newborns. MCHN are in an ideal position to identify and support women experiencing IPV, or refer them to specialist family violence services. Evidence for IPV screening in primary health care is inconclusive to date. The Victorian government recently required nurses to screen all mothers when bab
