The best treatment method for reverse obliquity intertrochanteric fractures (ROIFs) is still under debate. Our team designed the modified proximal femoral nail (MPFN) specially for treating such fractures. The objective of this research was to introduce the MPFN device and compare the biomechanical properties with Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) and InterTAN nail via finite element modelling. An AO/OTA 31-A3.1 ROIF model was established via Mimics software. Three implants were depicted and assembled on the ROIF models. The axial, bending, and torsion loads were simulated to test stre

CASE: This case report, with 3 years of follow-up, describes a 9-year-old boy who suffered sequential Delbet type IV proximal femoral fractures. Three months postoperatively he had a unilateral slipped capital femoral epiphysis and had to undergo further surgery to address this.
CONCLUSION: Proximal femur fractures are rare in childhood, and a slipped capital femoral epiphysis after fixation of a Delbet type 4 fracture has only been described once before in the literature. This case report highlights underlying risk factors of subsequent slipped capital femoral epiphysis after a Delbet type I

INTRODUCTION: Few controlled studies explore proximal femoral geometry and association with femoral neck (FN) or intertrochanteric (IT) fractures, especially among the elderly Filipino population. Previous reports, however, still reveal multiple inconsistencies. The objective of the study is to establish a possible association between radiographic hip geometry and proximal femoral fractures based on measurements taken from elderly Filipino women.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study of 182 Filipino women ≥ 60 years old at a single institution last 2019-2020. Patients were di

INTRODUCTION: Unstable peritrochanteric fractures of the femur are among the most challenging injuries in orthopaedic trauma, especially in the elderly with osteoporotic bone. The proximal femoral nail (PFN), a cephalomedullary device, offers potential biomechanical and clinical advantages.
OBJECTIVES: To assess (1) the functional outcome of PFN in unstable peritrochanteric femoral fractures using the Harris hip score (HHS); (2) the radiological outcome using the radiographic union score for hip (RUSH); and (3) complications associated with PFN fixation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective

In order to determine the impact of COVID-19 on the treatment and outcomes in patients with proximal femoral fracture’s (PFF), we analyzed a national US sample. This is a retrospective review of American College of Surgery’s (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) for patients with proximal femoral fractures. A total of 26,830 and 26,300 patients sustaining PFF and undergoing surgical treatment were sampled during 2019 and 2020, respectively. On multivariable logistic regression, patients were less likely to have ‘presence of non-healing wound’ (p < 0.001), functional statu

Background: Periprosthetic fractures (PPF) of the femur close to the hip joint have serious consequences for most geriatric affected patients. In principle, apart from the highly uncommon conservative therapy, there are two therapeutic options. On the one hand, the prosthesis-preserving treatment by means of osteosynthesis using plates and/or cerclages in general is available. On the other hand, a (partial) change of the prosthesis with optionally additive osteosynthesis or a proximal femoral replacement can be performed because of prosthesis loosening or non-reconstructable comminuted fractur
