Multivariate Random Forests for Cross-Modal Multi-Omics Integration.

Multi-omics studies are widely used across many areas of biomedical research. In many diseases, some signals are shared across data types, while others are strongest in a single omics layer. Current multi-omics clustering methods often either merge all data types into a single representation, which can blur biology that is strong in one layer, or rely on linear structure that may miss more complex relationships across data types. We introduce MULTIRF, a random-forest-based method that handles complex data types and separates shared and modality-specific structure for multi-omics data. MULTIRF

Random survival forests-based survival prediction for spinal chordomas.

BACKGROUND: Spinal chordomas are rare, malignant tumors with poor prognosis due to their tendency for local recurrence and distant metastasis. Accurate survival prediction is critical but challenging due to the complexity of clinical and histological factors. This study aimed to develop and validate a Random Survival Forest (RSF) model for survival prediction in spinal chordoma patients and compare its performance to the traditional Cox proportional hazards model. METHODS: Using data from the SEER database (2000-2018), we retrospectively analyzed 679 patients with histologically confirmed spi

Detecting and classifying linear structures in mammograms using random forests.

Detecting and classifying curvilinear structure is important in many image interpretation tasks. We focus on the challenging problem of detecting such structure in mammograms and deciding whether it is normal or abnormal. We adopt a discriminative learning approach based on a Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet representation and random forest classification. We present results of a quantitative comparison of our approach with three leading methods from the literature and with learning-based variants of those methods. We show that our new approach gives significantly better results than any of the other

Genome-wide transcriptomics and a machine learning-based random forest model identify novel biomarkers to predict phenotypic variability in Wilson disease.

Genotype-phenotype correlation studies fail to explain the phenotypic diversity in Wilson disease (WD) and the missing link may lie in transcriptomics. Therefore, we performed genome-wide transcriptomic profiling and machine-learning-based random forest modeling (RF) to identify the most important genes that could explain phenotypic variability in WD and reveal the molecular pathogenesis of WD. For this purpose, we used bulk RNA sequencing approaches to include 47 genetically confirmed pediatric hepatic WD patients and controls. We observed 321 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in WD. Prediction of cardiovascular event risk within 90 days in patients with hypertension: A study based on random forest and nomogram models.

This study aimed to investigate risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events occurring within 90 days of onset in patients with hypertension. We developed a random forest (RF) predictive model and a nomogram predictive model, and validated the performance of these models. Baseline data were retrospectively collected from patients with hypertension treated at our hospital from January 2024 to December 2025. Disease-related risk factors were identified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis, and both a RF model and a nomogram prediction model were developed. Internal mo

Comparative machine learning analysis identifies random forest and adaboost as superior models for the evaluation of semen quality and reproductive hormones.

BACKGROUND: Semen analysis is a widely accepted laboratory investigation for evaluating male infertility. However, in cases of idiopathic or unexplained male infertility, comprehensive assessment may require blood-based profiling of a reproductive hormone panel-including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin (PRL), and testosterone-to clearly identify endocrine abnormalities that may contribute to infertility. These variables exhibit nonlinear dynamics and multidimensional interdependencies, presenting analytical challenges for conventional statistical approac

Elucidating contributions of volatile organic compounds to ozone formation using random forest during COVID-19 pandemic: A case study in China.

Ozone has been reported to increase despite nitrogen oxides reductions during the COVID-19 pandemic, and ozone formation needs to be revisited using volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are rarely measured during the pandemic. Here, a total of 98 VOCs species were monitored in an economy-active city in China from January 2021 to August 2022 to assess contributions to ozone formation during the pandemic. Total VOCs concentrations were 35.55 ± 21.47 ppb during the entire period, among which alkanes account for the largest fraction (13.78 ppb, 38.0%), followed by aromatics (6.16 ppb, 16.8%) a

Impacts of sample ratio and size on the performance of random forest model to predict the potential distribution of snail habitats.

Few studies have considered the impacts of sample size and sample ratio of presence and absence points on the results of random forest (RF) testing. We applied this technique for the prediction of the spatial distribution of snail habitats based on a total of 15,000 sample points (5,000 presence samples and 10,000 control points). RF models were built using seven different sample ratios (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1) and the optimal ratio was identified via the Area Under the Curve (AUC) statistic. The impact of sample size was compared by RF models under the optimal ratio and the opt

Predicting the optimal therapeutic intervention for tinnitus patients using random forest regression: A preliminary study of UNITI's decision support system model.

Tinnitus is the conscious perception of a phantom sound in absence of an external or internal stimulus. More than 1 in 7 adults in the EU experience tinnitus and for a large proportion of them tinnitus is an intrusive, persistent, and disabling condition, which impairs their life quality. Therefore, tinnitus is posed as a major global burden, which requires a precision-medicine approach in terms of treatments that are tailored to individual patients, due to its high heterogeneity. UNITI is a research and innovation project which aims towards this goal, unifying treatments and interventions for
