A Text Messaging Intervention for Coping With Social Distancing During COVID-19 (StayWell at Home): Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Social distancing is a crucial intervention to slow down person-to-person transmission of COVID-19. However, social distancing has negative consequences, including increases in depression and anxiety. Digital interventions, such as text messaging, can provide accessible support on a population-wide scale. We developed text messages in English and Spanish to help individuals manage their depressive mood and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVE: In a two-arm randomized controlled trial, we aim to examine the effect of our 60-day text messaging intervention. Additionally,

Understanding antimicrobial resistance dynamics of non-typhoidal Salmonella in chickens and ducks - a prospective study from West Bengal, India.

This study investigated the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profile of Salmonella enterica (n = 446) of poultry origin (n = 1020) collected from West Bengal, India. Salmonella Typhimurium (n = 328) were the most frequently isolated serovar and found resistant to tetracycline (72%), ampicillin (57%), and nalidixic acid (53%). Logistic regression revealed significantly higher odds of resistance in isolates from meat, liver, and cecum compared to cloacal swabs. Resistance was also more likely in isolates from broilers and from retail sources compared to other hosts and farms. To predict extended-s

Meta-analysis of the human gut microbiome uncovers shared and distinct microbial signatures between diseases.

UNLABELLED: Microbiome studies have revealed gut microbiota's potential impact on complex diseases. However, many studies often focus on one disease per cohort. We developed a meta-analysis workflow for gut microbiome profiles and analyzed shotgun metagenomic data covering 11 diseases. Using interpretable machine learning and differential abundance analysis, our findings reinforce the generalization of binary classifiers for Crohn's disease (CD) and colorectal cancer (CRC) to hold-out cohorts and highlight the key microbes driving these classifications. We identified high microbial similarity

Performance of baseline FDG-PET/CT radiomics for prediction of bone marrow minimal residual disease status in the LyMa-101 trial.

The prognostic value of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) at baseline or the predictive value of minimal residual disease (MRD) detection appear as potential tools to improve mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) patients' management. The LyMa-101, a phase 2 trial of the LYSA group (ClinicalTrials.gov:NCT02896582) reported induction therapy with obinutuzumab, a CD20 monoclonal antibody. Herein, we investigated the added prognostic value of radiomic features (RF) derived from FDG-PET/CT at diagnosis for MRD value prediction. FDG-PET/CT of 59 MCL patients

Scalable and robust machine learning framework for HIV classification using clinical and laboratory data.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that weakens the immune system, increasing vulnerability to infections and cancers. HIV spreads primarily via sharing needles, from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding, or unprotected sexual intercourse. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent the disease progression of HIV to AIDS, which is associated with higher mortality. This study introduces a machine learning-based framework for the classification of HIV infections crucial for preventing the disease's progression and transmission risk to improve lon

A noise-immune reinforcement learning method for early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus.

The neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE), a severe disease that can damage the heart, liver, kidney, and other vital organs, often involves the central nervous system and even leads to death. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a brain functional imaging technology that can detect the concentration of metabolites in organs and tissues non-invasively. However, the performance of early diagnosis of NPSLE through conventional MRS analysis is still unsatisfactory. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on genetic algorithm (GA) and multi-agent reinforcement learning (

Machine learning-based computational validation of the Addictions Neuroclinical Assessment framework in relation to hazardous drinking.

BACKGROUND: Addiction is a multifaceted disorder driven by complex neurobiological and psychological mechanisms. The Addictions Neuroclinical Assessment (ANA) framework offers a dimensional mechanistic approach, focusing on three core domains: incentive salience, negative emotionality, and executive function. This study aimed to validate the ANA framework in relation to hazardous drinking using a machine learning approach, with the hypothesis that incentive salience and negative emotionality would be most strongly associated with drinking severity. METHODS: We analysed two independent dataset

Fine-tuning DeepSeek-OCR-2 for Molecular Structure Recognition.

Optical Chemical Structure Recognition (OCSR) is critical for converting 2D molecular diagrams from printed literature into machine-readable formats. While Vision-Language Models have shown promise in end-to-end OCR tasks, their direct application to OCSR remains challenging, and direct full-parameter supervised fine-tuning often fails. In this work, we adapt DeepSeek-OCR-2 (Wei et al., 2025; 2026) for molecular optical recognition by formulating the task as image-conditioned SMILES generation. To overcome training instabilities, we propose a two-stage progressive supervised fine-tuning strate

AI-driven quadruped robots: from fundamental locomotion to advanced biomimetic behaviors.

Quadruped robots have attracted increasing attention because they can traverse uneven terrain, support field deployment, and perform tasks that are difficult for wheeled or tracked platforms. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have further expanded their capabilities from manually designed gait control toward learning-based locomotion, perception-aware adaptation, dynamic motion skills, autonomous recovery, manipulation, energy-aware operation, fault diagnosis, and human-robot interaction. However, the literature on AI-driven quadruped robotics is distributed across diverse techni

Beyond SELEX: AI-driven aptamers from sequence to structure to function.

Conventional aptamer discovery by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) is often constrained by limited library capacity, PCR bias, and multi-round screening. The recent convergence of artificial intelligence with aptamer development is driving a paradigm shift from empirical screening toward rational, data-driven design. This Review presents a timely and comprehensive overview of AI integration across the entire aptamer development pipeline, with a particular emphasis on advances reported in 2024-2026. We begin by discussing bioinformatics databases and computation

Generative Artificial Intelligence Optimization of Albumin Binders: Coumarin and Fatty Acid Derivatives.

Previously, we reported a dual combination based on 4-hydroxycoumarin and dodecanedioic acid that could synergistically bind to human serum albumin (HSA). However, optimizing this combination remains challenging and could often be guided by empirical selection and extensive experimental screening, which may limit the chemical diversity and suboptimal affinity. In this study, we established a systematic artificial intelligence framework that integrates computational optimization with wet-lab synthesis and experimental validation, enabling improvement of the dual combination while preserving the

Adaptive schedule deviation correction for complex information system projects: a graph neural network approach with knowledge distillation.

Schedule deviation continues to plague complex information system projects, with empirical surveys reporting that over 70% of such projects suffer meaningful overruns and average delays exceeding one-quarter of the originally planned duration. Conventional schedule management tools-earned value analysis, critical path computation, and linear regression-rest on assumptions of stable task environments and independent activity progression, assumptions that rarely hold when hundreds of interdependent tasks compete for shared resources under volatile requirements. AI-Aided Design of Carbonated Ductile Well Cement for Enhanced Recovery.

The long-term integrity of wellbores in enhanced oil recovery and enhanced gas recovery is critically dependent on the mechanical resilience of the cement sheath against tensile subsurface loads. This study developed a series of mix designs for ductile well cements using American Petroleum Institute Class H cement, silica flour, and fly ash and reinforced with polyethylene fibers to address the inherent brittleness of traditional oil well cements. The mechanical behavior and microstructural evolution of the composites were evaluated under normal/ambient and carbonation (10% CO2) curing conditi

Utilizing UAV and orthophoto data with bathymetric LiDAR in google earth engine for coastal cliff degradation assessment.

This study introduces a novel methodology for estimating and analysing coastal cliff degradation, using machine learning and remote sensing data. Degradation refers to both natural abrasive processes and damage to coastal reinforcement structures caused by natural events. We utilized orthophotos and LiDAR data in green and near-infrared wavelengths to identify zones impacted by storms and extreme weather events that initiated mass movement processes. Our approach included change detection analysis to estimate eroded areas. Next, by applying Random Forest classifier within Google Earth Engine,

Exploiting co-adaptation for the design of symbiotic neuroprosthetic assistants.

The success of brain-machine interfaces (BMI) is enabled by the remarkable ability of the brain to incorporate the artificial neuroprosthetic 'tool' into its own cognitive space and use it as an extension of the user's body. Unlike other tools, neuroprosthetics create a shared space that seamlessly spans the user's internal goal representation of the world and the external physical environment enabling a much deeper human-tool symbiosis. A key factor in the transformation of 'simple tools' into 'intelligent tools' is the concept of co-adaptation where the tool becomes functionally involved in
