CSSTag: Optical Nanoscale Radar and Particle Tracking for In-Body and Microfluidic Systems With Vibrating Graphene and Resonance Energy Transfer.

Biological particle tracking systems monitor cellular processes or particle behaviors with the great accuracy. The emissions of fluorescent molecules or direct images of particles are captured with cameras or photodetectors. The current imaging systems have challenges in detection, collection, and analysis of imaging data, penetration depth, and complicated set-ups. In this paper, a signaling-based nanoscale acousto-optic radar and microfluidic multiple particle tracking (MPT) system is proposed based on the theoretical design providing nanoscale optical modulator with vibrating Förster resona

Respiratory impedance response to continuous negative airway pressure in awake controls and OSAS.

The aim of the study was to determine whether the response of respiratory impedance (Zrs) to decreasing levels of continuous negative airway pressure (CNAP) during wakefulness, differs in controls and subjects with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). Zrs was measured by the forced oscillation technique (4-32 Hz) in 15 controls and 21 patients with OSAS (apnoea/hypopnoea index >20 per sleep hour) with normal lung function, in the basal state and with application of decreasing CNAP of -5, -10, and -15 hPa. Respiratory resistance was extrapolated to 0 Hz (R0) and estimated at 16 Hz (R16) by

Improving diagnostic reliability of postoperative 3D TOF-MRA for cerebral aneurysms by optimizing the frequency-encoding direction: A practical technical note.

INTRODUCTION: Three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (3D TOF-MRA) is widely used for non-invasive postoperative follow-up after cerebral aneurysm treatment. However, susceptibility artifacts from metallic clips or coils can cause apparent parent artery signal loss or missed detection of recanalization. This study aimed to evaluate whether optimization of the frequency-encoding direction improves diagnostic reliability compared with conventional 3D TOF-MRA. METHODS: Nine patients who underwent surgical clipping of cerebral aneurysms were included. For qualitative asses

Degree centrality alterations in different frequency bands in chronic insomnia: A resting-state fMRI study.

PURPOSE: Abnormal spontaneous neural activity in chronic insomnia (CI) has been identified in previous neuroimaging studies. However, whether the spontaneous neural activity is frequency-specific in CI is largely unknown. METHODS: We used resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and degree centrality (DC) analysis to examine spontaneous neural activity in 37 CI patients and 20 healthy controls (HCs) across four frequency bands: slow-5 (0.012-0.031 Hz), slow-4 (0.031-0.081 Hz), slow-3 (0.081-0.224 Hz), and slow-2 (0.224-0.25 Hz). Partial correlation analysis was used to ex

Functional neuroanatomical correlates of contingency judgement.

Contingency judgement is an ability to detect relationships between events and is crucial in the allocation of attentional resources for reasoning, categorization, and decision making to control behaviour in our environment. Research has suggested that the allocation of attention is sensitive to the frequency of contingency information whether it constitutes a negative, zero or positive relationship. The aim of the present study was to explore the functional neuroanatomical correlates of contingency judgement with different frequencies and whether these are distinct from each other or whether

Influence of DGKH variants on amygdala volume in patients with bipolar affective disorder and schizophrenia.

The diacylglycerol kinase eta (DGKH) gene, first identified in a genome-wide association study, is one of the few replicated risk genes of bipolar affective disorder (BD). Following initial positive studies, it not only was found to be associated with BD but also implicated in the etiology of other psychiatric disorders featuring affective symptoms, rendering DGKH a cross-disorder risk gene. However, the (patho-)physiological role of the encoded enzyme is still elusive. In the present study, we investigated primarily the influence of a risk haplotype on amygdala volume in patients suffering fr

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy associated with a disorder indistinguishable from multiple sclerosis in a male harbouring the mitochondrial DNA 11778 mutation.

This report describes a multiple sclerosis (MS)-like disorder in a male patient with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) harbouring the mitochondrial DNA 11778 base pair mutation. Given the population frequencies of MS and LHON, coincidental occurrence is unlikely. Hypothetically the mitochondrial mutation underlying LHON may contribute to presumably immunologically mediated involvement of other myelinated axons in the central nervous system in susceptible individuals, producing a disorder indistinguishable from MS. We recommend that investigation for oligoclonal bands in CSF, evoked po

Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Stretchable Metasurface Terahertz Sensor for Trace Cinnamoylglycine Detection.

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, an advanced label-free sensing method, offers significant potential for biomolecular detection and quantitative analysis in biological samples. Although broadband fingerprint enhancement compensates for limitations in detection capability and sensitivity, the complex optical path design in operation restricts its broader adoption. This paper proposes a multi-degree-of-freedom stretchable metasurface that supports magnetic dipole resonance to enhance the broadband THz fingerprint detection of trace analytes. The metasurface substrate and unit cell structures are co

Impaired intrinsic functional connectivity among medial temporal lobe and sub-regions related to memory deficits in intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula.

PURPOSE: The functional changes concerning memory deficits in dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) brain are inadequately understood. This study aimed to understand the functional connectivity alterations of brain regions widely affirmed for explicit and implicit memory functions in dAVF patients (DP) and look into the frequency effects of the altered functional networks. METHODS: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) analysis was done in the memory-associated regions of 30 DP and 30 healthy controls (HC). Frequency decomposition was used to determine potential frequency-

Intrinsic brain activity associated with eye gaze during mother-child interaction.

Mother-child interactions impact child social development and psychological health. This study focused on eye-gaze interactions, especially eye contact as synchronized gaze, which is an important non-verbal communication tool in human interactions. We performed brain-image analysis of mothers and children using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and quantitatively evaluated the quality of mother-child interactions using the Interaction Rating Scale to investigate how it is related to the frequency of mother-child eye contact. As a result, we found a positive correlation betwee

Prevalence of cardiac amyloidosis in atrial fibrillation: a CMR study prior to catheter ablation.

The frequency of cardiac amyloidosis potentially present in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency and clinical characteristics of cardiac amyloidosis latent in AF by performing cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients scheduled for AF ablation. We retrospectively analyzed 193 consecutive patients who underwent CA and cardiac MRI for atrial fibrillation. The primary endpoint of the study was the frequency of histologically confirmed cardiac amyloidosis or suspected cardiac amyloidosis [positive imaging finding

A normative study of postural tremor of the hand.

In a normative study of amplitude, frequency, and variability of postural tremor of the hand in 97 normal subjects, 15 to 80 years old, tremor was transduced using accelerometers and characterized by power spectral analysis. Tremor amplitude ranged from a 0.0015- to 0.035-g peak at the dominant frequency. The modal tremor amplitude was 0.01-g peak, and the threshold for "visible tremor" was 0.007-g peak. The modal tremor frequency was constant at about 7 Hz in those subjects up to 70 years old and thereafter decreased to about 6 Hz. The mean range of variability of the dominant frequency was 2

Compressible flow simulations of voiced speech using rigid vocal tract geometries acquired by MRI.

Voiced speech consists mainly of the source signal that is frequency weighted by the acoustic filtering of the upper airways and vortex-induced sound through perturbation in the flow field. This study investigates the flow instabilities leading to vortex shedding and the importance of coherent structures in the supraglottal region downstream of the vocal folds for the far-field sound signal. Large eddy simulations of the compressible airflow through the glottal constriction are performed in realistic geometries obtained from three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging data. Intermittent flow

Frequency-dependent changes in fractional amplitude of low-frequency oscillations in Alzheimer's disease: a resting-state fMRI study.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease in elderly individuals. We conducted this study to examine whether alterations in the fractional amplitudes of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) in the AD spectrum were frequency-dependent and symptom-relevant. A total of 43 patients with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), 52 with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), 44 with Alzheimer's dementia (d-AD) and 55 well-matched controls participated in resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) scans. The amplitudes were measured using fALFF within the s

Warm realism in Chinese microdramas: A term frequency analysis of audience comments on The Puppy Laifu.

Starting from the connotation of warm realism, this study analyzes the narrative characteristics of the warm realist microdrama The Puppy Laifu on the Douyin platform. The audience's comments on the drama are selected as the research object. Narratology is also introduced into the short drama for category construction. On the basis of a combination of audience reception theory and word frequency analysis, a "narrative-decoding" analytical framework is constructed to study the narrative setup and audience reception mechanism. The analysis reveals that the emotional resonance of the audience is
