In Vitro Antibacterial Activity of Commercial Essential Oils Against Lactococcus garvieae.

Lactococcosis, caused by Lactococcus garvieae, is a persistent problem of farmed rainbow trout, and the reduced efficacy of conventional antibiotics has prompted interest in plant-derived alternatives. The in vitro antibacterial activity of five commercial essential oils from Melaleuca alternifolia, Mentha piperita, Citrus limon, Rosmarinus officinalis and Lavandula hybrida was evaluated against six L. garvieae isolates from rainbow trout. Minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) were determined by broth microdilution, and the mode of action was defined by the M

Rosmanol alleviates glycerol-induced acute kidney injury through its antioxidative and anti-apoptotic properties via ameliorating the PGC‑1α/SIRT3 signalling pathway.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) represents a fatal complication of rhabdomyolysis, which is characterised by skeletal muscle damage and necrosis. Consequently, cell contents are released into the bloodstream, eventually obstructing renal tubules, which causes renal dysfunction due to elevated inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. Rosmanol (RM) is a phenolic diterpene compound isolated from Rosmarinus officinalis (Roary), which reveals antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and nephroprotective activities. Hence, we explore the nephroprotective efficacy of RM against glycerol-indu

In Vitro Virucidal Activity of Different Essential Oils against Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus Used as Surrogate of Human Hepatitis C Virus.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major hepatotropic virus that affects humans with increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. The bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) causes abortion, calf mortality and poor reproductive performance in cattle. Due the difficulties of in vitro cultivation for HCV, BVDV has been used as surrogate for in vitro assessment of the efficacy of antivirals. Essential oils (EOs) display antiviral and virucidal activity on several viral pathogens. In this study, the virucidal activity of five EOs, Salvia officinalis L. EO (SEO), Melissa officinalis L. EO (MEO),

Carnosic Acid Ameliorates Indomethacin-Induced Gastric Ulceration in Rats by Alleviating Oxidative Stress and Inflammation.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and indomethacin (IND) are the most commonly prescribed for inflammation or pain. However, widespread use causes several adverse effects, such as gastric ulcers, upper gastric system bleeding, and erosions. Carnosic acid (CA) is an important natural antioxidant found in rosemary (Rosmarinus essentials) and exhibits a protective effect by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the impact of CA on IND-induced gastric ulceration. Wistar male rats received CA (100 mg/kg) or esomeprazole (ESP) (20

A novel study on enhancing ascorbic acid colorimetric detection: Green synthesis-driven crystallinity, stability, and catalytic performance of iron oxide nanoparticles in Mo(VI)/FeNPs-based biosensors.

The goal of this study is to investigate how the green synthesis influences the crystallinity, stability, and catalytic performance of green-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (FeNPs) in Mo(VI)/FeNPs-based biosensors for ascorbic acid (AA) colorimetric detection. By examining the correlation between total antioxydant capacity (TAC) and FeNPs' structural properties, phase composition, and defect levels, the study aims to establish how plant-mediated synthesis drives FeNPs' catalytic efficiency, ultimately enhancing biosensor sensitivity and lowering detection limits (LOD and LOQ). Statistical

1,8-cineole as a multi-target anticancer candidate integrating molecular mechanisms, pharmacokinetics and translational perspectives.

Despite decades of therapeutic innovation, cancer mortality remains largely determined by treatment resistance, systemic toxicity, and tumor heterogeneity. These persistent challenges have renewed interest in natural small molecules with multitarget activity and favorable safety profiles as adjuncts or alternatives to conventional therapies. Among these, 1,8-cineole, a monoterpene abundant in Eucalyptus and Rosmarinus species, is increasingly recognized as a promising, yet underexplored anticancer candidate. Accumulating evidence indicates that 1,8-cineole exerts broad antitumor effects. It mo

Computational evaluation of carnosic acid as a 4EY7 inhibitor for potential anti-Alzheimer therapy.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized in part by cholinergic dysfunction resulting from excessive acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. Although currently approved AChE inhibitors provide symptomatic relief, their clinical benefits remain modest and are often associated with adverse effects. Natural products represent an important source of structurally diverse bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic relevance. In this study, we computationally evaluated carnosic acid, a diterpene from Rosmarinus officinalis, as a potential AChE inhibitor usi
