STUDY OBJECTIVES: Severe respiratory distress of neonates with Robin sequence is traditionally managed by surgery. Stanford orthodontic airway plate treatment (SOAP) is a nonsurgical option. The study aimed to determine whether SOAP can improve polysomnography parameters of neonates with Robin sequence.
METHODS: Polysomnography of neonates with Robin sequence treated with SOAP at a single hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Patients without polysomnography at all 4 time points (pre, start of, mid, and posttreatment) were excluded. Data were analyzed using a linear mixed effects model.

Chloroxylenol, also known as p-chloro-m-xylenol (PCMX), is a compound that has been used as a preservative in cosmetics and as an active agent in antimicrobial soaps. We present two patients with allergic contact dermatitis from PCMX, confirmed by positive (+++) patch-test reactions at 48 and 72 hours, identification of PCMX in a soap and in a hand cream used by the patients, and improvement following withdrawal of the incriminating products. The mechanism of action, structure, antimicrobial activity, and dangers of PCMX are reviewed.

A preliminary trial was carried out to establish the most suitable hygienic wipe for sanitary cleansing in incontinence and to study and compare the difference between cleansing with soap and non-ionic detergents in incontinent patients. OBJECTIVE: To compare plain soap, alcohol hand rub and iodophors as hand hygiene measures in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Acquired facial hyperpigmentation is a common problem among African patients, particularly women, where the causes of the dermatoses are identified largely from circumstantial evidence of exposure to known agents. These include hydroquinone-induced exogenous ochronosis from skin-bleaching creams, mercury deposits from mercury-containing skin-lightening soaps and creams, sulfonamide-related drugs, antimalarials, fixed drug eruptions, clofazimine, and photosensitizing herbal concoctions.
