Smart Shelf System for Customer Behavior Tracking in Supermarkets.

Transactional data from point-of-sales systems may not consider customer behavior before purchasing decisions are finalized. A smart shelf system would be able to provide additional data for retail analytics. In previous works, the conventional approach has involved customers standing directly in front of products on a shelf. Data from instances where customers deviated from this convention, referred to as "cross-location", were typically omitted. However, recognizing instances of cross-location is crucial when contextualizing multi-person and multi-product tracking for real-world scenarios. T

Limb shaking TIA: an unusual presentation of a common condition.

First described by Fischer in 1962, the limb shaking syndrome is a haemodynamic transient ischaemic attack (TIA) clinically characterised by brief, dysrhythmic, flailing or jerking movements, involving limbs contralateral to an occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA), which occur with a change in posture such as standing from sitting. We present the case of a woman in her 60s who presented with left-sided weakness suggestive of right hemispheric stroke, with previous episodes of limb shaking TIAs, which were caused by significant cerebral hypo-perfusion due to a combination of postural

Accuracy and Reliability of Standing Lateral Lumbar Radiographs for Measurements of Spinopelvic Parameters.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective observational study. OBJECTIVE: To assess the accuracy and reliability of standing lateral lumbar radiographs for measurements of spinopelvic parameters, compared with whole-spine EOS® images. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Lateral lumbar radiographs are commonly used for measurements of spinopelvic parameters. However, variable magnifications by fan-beam x-ray projection at margins may cause measurement errors. METHODS: Fifty consecutive patients with standing lateral lumbar radiographs and whole-spine EOS® images were retrospectively reviewed from March to July in

Feasibility and acceptability of "active" classroom workstations among French university students and lecturers: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary lifestyles plague today's society in terms of physical, psychosocial and cognitive health. Students are particularly at risk because they spend most of their daily time sitting and inactive. The current pedagogical model must be rethought in order to promote students' health, well-being and therefore their success. The objective of this project was to equip one classroom of the sport science department at a university with various active workstations (standing desks, Swiss balls, cycling desks, pedal- or stepper-board) and to evaluate the feasibility and influence of thes

Head stabilization during standing in people with persisting symptoms after mild traumatic brain injury.

Increased postural sway is often observed in people with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), but our understanding of how individuals with mTBI control their head during stance is limited. The purpose of this study was to determine if people with mTBI exhibit increased sway at the head compared with healthy controls. People with persisting symptoms after mTBI (n = 59, 41 women) and control participants (n = 63, 38 women) stood quietly for one minute in four conditions: eyes open on a firm surface (EO-firm), eyes closed on a firm surface (EC-firm), eyes open on a foam pad (EO-foam), and eyes cl

Assessing Postural Instability and Cybersickness Through Linear and Angular Displacement.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the hypothesis that constant speed is more comfortable than variable speed profiles and may minimize cybersickness. BACKGROUND: Current best practices for virtual reality (VR) content creation suggest keeping any form of acceleration as short and infrequent as possible to mitigate cybersickness. METHODS: In Experiment 1, participants experienced repetitions of simulated linear motion, and in Experiment 2, they experienced repetitions of a circular motion. Three speed profiles were tested in each experiment. Each trial lasted 2 min while standing. Cybersickness was measu

[Effect of body position on the ability to initiate paroxysmal supraventricular reentry tachycardias and on the conduction system properties of the reentry circuit].

The obtainability as well as the maintenance and termination of paroxysmal supraventricular reentry tachycardias depend upon the interaction of the individual components of the reentry circle, in which cases the properties of the pathway are influenced by the changing preponderance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic tonus and thus also by the body position. In 29 investigations by means of highly frequent and programmed transoesophageal atrial stimulation the influence of the body position on the initiation possibility of the paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and on the pathway prope

A Feasible Low-Cost System for Kinematic and Kinetic Analysis of Sit-to-Stand Movement.

The sit-to-stand (STS) movement is a common activity essential for independence and mobility. Traditional methods for assessing STS often involve costly laboratory equipment, limiting their accessibility. This study introduced an economic alternative to the standard motion capture setup. The system presented in this study used an Azure Kinect and a plantar pressure sensor mat to acquire kinematic and kinetic data simultaneously during the STS. The Kinect provided noncontact motion capture, while the pressure sensor array measured ground reaction forces. To address the Kinect's inherent limitat

Comprehensive Assessment of Lower Limb Function and Muscle Strength in Sarcopenia: Insights from the Sit-to-Stand Test.

The sit-to-stand test is an essential tool used to assess lower limb function and muscle strength in older adults and various patient populations, and also plays a role in sarcopenia screening. Among its forms, the five-time sit-to-stand test (FTSST) is widely used, with previous studies suggesting cutoff values of >10 seconds and >11 seconds for the sitting-to-standing and standing-to-sitting transitions, respectively. The 30-second and 1-minute sit-to-stand tests (30STS and 1MSTS, respectively) also provide comprehensive assessments. While much of the current research on sarcopenia foc

The radiographic assessments of spino-pelvic compensation using IoT-based real-time ischial pressure adjustment.

In malalignment syndrome, the spino-pelvic alignment correction with foot orthotics can be applied only to a standing position in the coronal plane. Considering the fact that the average time Koreans spend sitting in a chair is 7.5 hours per day, studies on spino-pelvic correction in sitting position is needed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the pressure changes and radiographic assessment of spino-pelvic alignment using a chair equipped with a height-adjustable seat-plate. This study was conducted on 30 participants with spinopelvic malalignment. All participants were subjected t

Reliability of the Risser+ grade for assessment of bone maturity in pediatric scoliosis cases: Investigation using standing and supine whole-spine radiograph.

BACKGROUND: Although several radiography-based systems for assessing skeletal maturity are available to clinicians, the classical Risser grading system remains a clinical gold standard. For scoliosis follow-up, a standing whole-spine radiograph is usually used. However, in our clinical practice, we have occasionally encountered cases in which ossification of the iliac crest is seen differently in the standing and supine whole-spine radiography. Here, we aimed to clarify the reliability of the Risser+ grading system for supine versus standing position radiographs. METHODS: This study recruited

Changes in lumbar lordosis and predicted minimum 5-year surgical outcomes after short-segment transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.

Although most patients who undergo transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) show favorable surgical results, some still have unfavorable results for various reasons. This study aimed to investigate the influence of differences in lumbar lordosis (LL) between the standing and supine positions (DiLL: supine LL-standing LL) on minimum 5-year surgical outcomes after short-segment TLIF. Ninety-one patients with lumbar degenerative disease who underwent short-segment TLIF (1-2 levels) were categorized based on preoperative differences in LL as DiLL (+) and DiLL (-).
