PURPOSE: Intravesical dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is used to treat interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, but its mechanisms of action are not fully understood. The study aim was to investigate the effects of DMSO on contractility of the bladder detrusor and the mucosa (urothelium/lamina propria).
METHODS: Contractile responses of isolated detrusor muscle from pig and human bladder were observed in the absence and presence of DMSO (1.7-25%), and after 4 h of washing. The effects of DMSO and recovery were also examined in strips of pig bladder mucosa (urothelium/lamina propria).

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is a cardiovascular disease prevalent in the aging population, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates. Hyper-Raman (HR) spectra of polar liquids are reported. In the title compound, [CdBr(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))(C(2)H(6)OS)], the Cd(II) atom is five-coordinated in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry by two N atoms from one 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (DMBP) ligand, one O atom from a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligand and two Br atoms.
