Survival and Success Rate of Restoration Post Endodontic Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Dental restoration following endodontic treatment aims to restore tooth function, aesthetics, and strength compromised by caries or trauma. Loss of tooth structure post-treatment can reduce strength by up to 60%, increasing fracture risk. Restoration choice depends on remaining tooth structure, coronal sealing, retention, and occlusal factors. Direct restorations suit minimal damage, while indirect options like crowns or endocrowns address significant structural loss. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the durability and success of post-endodontic restorations through a scoping review focus

Tooth resorption in the Swedish Eurasion lynx (Lynx lynx).

The etiology of tooth resorption in the domestic cat remains unknown. The high prevalence and progressive nature of the disease complicates defining healthy control groups. In order to evaluate the possible influence of various life style changes on the prevalence of tooth resorption, healthy control groups are a prerequisite. This paper presents a prevalence study for tooth resorption in a free-ranging wild felidae population. Skulls from 46 free-ranging Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) were examined. The age of the animals had previously been estimated based on cementum annuli in the maxillary righ

Reattachment of endodontically treated lateral incisor with supragingivally complicated crown fracture using fiber-reinforced post.

Re-restoring endodontically treated teeth with complicated crown or crown root fractures is a major challenge for dental practitioners, because they can present difficulties for successful treatment. This report describes the management of supragingivally complicated crown fracture of an endodontically treated maxillary lateral incisor. The involved tooth was restored with the reattachment procedure using light transmitting fiber post. After 11 months, the reattached tooth had a satisfying function, favorable physiological and esthetic outcomes and healthy surrounding periodontal structures.

Influence of the maxillary canine on mandibular fracture.

The length of the root of the mandibular canine tooth has been considered by many authors as being a source of weakness in the mandible. It has also been suggested that a direct blow or a bending force around this tooth can result in traumatic injury. We advance a theory that implicates the maxillary canine tooth as directly contributing to the mandibular canine region fracture pattern.

A Rare Case of Nasolacrimal Duct Partial Obstruction After Extraction of an Impacted Maxillary Canine.

The main complications of tooth extraction include jaw fracture, maxillary sinus damage, adjacent teeth damage, nerve damage, root fracture, infection, bleeding, and swelling. Despite the theoretical possibility that tooth extraction could result in nasolacrimal duct obstruction, to the best of our knowledge, no cases have yet been reported. In the present study, we describe a case in which the nasolacrimal duct was partially obstructed after extraction of an impacted maxillary canine, causing paranasal discomfort and lower eyelid swelling.

Nasolacrimal obstruction caused by root abscess of the upper canine in a cat.

A 10-year-old, castrated male domestic short hair cat was presented to the Small Animal Clinic at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine with a presenting complaint of chronic, ocular discharge from the left eye. Ocular examination confirmed epiphora and mucopurulent discharge but there were no apparent reasons for the ocular discharge, and nasolacrimal obstruction was suspected. The cat had swelling of the left side of the face, severe periodontal disease and a fractured upper left canine tooth with pulpal exposure. Dacryocystorhinography revealed narrowing of the nasolacrimal duct above

Management of dentoalveolar injuries in children: a case report.

Children aged 6-15 years old experience more injuries to their teeth and the injuries sustained are more serious as evidenced by a higher percentage of luxations, avulsions, fractures and dislocations. The mandible is the most frequently fractured facial bone and mandibular alveolar injuries have been reported to range between 8.1-50.6%. Those with mandibular or midface fractures have a higher incidence of associated chest, extremity, abdomen and cervical spine injuries. The growing patient with facial injuries presents the clinician with a series of thought-provoking circumstances. Dentoalveo

Deep head and neck infection causing pathological fracture of the mandibular condyle.

We report an unusual case of a 46-year-old male with a severe deep head and neck infection after extraction of two mandibular molars that led to a potentially life-threatening condition and caused pathological fracture of the mandibular condyle. This is the first published spontaneous pathological fracture of the mandibular condyle caused by an infection spread from a lower molar tooth. Based on CT scan we discuss the pathways of infection of odontogenic origin and the reflections of treatment. This case report illustrates an unusual presentation of a spontaneous pathological condylar fracture

Mandibular molar rehabilitation using orthodontic extrusion associated with odontoplasty.

The aim of this clinical report is to describe the successful treatment of a mandibular first molar presenting an extensive fracture at the buccal aspect in a young patient. The extension of the fracture was a negative prognostic factor for tooth maintenance. An alternative clinical treatment was proposed since the patient was young and presented with good oral hygiene and periodontal health. The treatment was based on orthodontic forced eruption associated with odontoplasty. A 3-year follow-up after the surgical procedure demonstrated the maintenance of periodontal health and good plaque cont

Modeling fracture in multilayered teeth using the finite volume-based phase field method.

The present work, utilizing the finite volume-based phase field method (FV-based PFM), aims to investigate the initiation and propagation of cracks in the second molar of the left mandible under occlusal loading. By reconstructing cone beam computed tomography scans of the patient, the true morphology and internal mesostructure of the entire tooth are implemented into numerical simulations, including both 2D slice models and a realistic 3D model. Weibull functions are introduced to represent the tooth's heterogeneity, enabling the stochastic distribution characteristics of mechanical parameter

Identifying the risk factors causing iatrogenic mandibular fractures associated with exodontia: a systemic meta-analysis of 200 cases from 1953 to 2015.

PURPOSE: Iatrogenic fracture of mandible (IFM) associated with exodontia though rare, they do occur with an incidence ranging from 0.0034 to 0.0075 %. Most of the data is in the form of case reports or a small case series. This is an attempt to amass the data available in literature since the last 62 years. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to identify the etiologies and risk factors leading to IFM associated with exodontia and also the measures to minimize the complication. METHODS: Articles published between 1953 and 2015 were searched in Medline database. Data was collected and analyzed

Novel management of internal root resorption with vertical root fracture using mineral trioxide aggregate - A case report.

INTRODUCTION: This case report presents the diagnosis and management of extensive internal root resorption (IRR) in a 17-year-old male patient, with a 9-year-old history of trauma. METHOD: The affected tooth 21 was associated with vertical root fracture (VRF) and incomplete apex closure with a substantial loss of tooth structure, including dentin and cementum. Encouraged by a healthy periodontal condition, the choice was made to use mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) to reconstruct and reinforce the resorptive defect and the fractured segment. A composite veneer was placed to enhance the aesthe

Aesthetic management of a complicated crown fracture: a multidisciplinary approach.

A predictable aesthetic restoration is not limited to the restored teeth; it has to include the gingival unit and its interface with the teeth involved. Orthodontic forced eruption may be a suitable approach without risking the aesthetic appearance in tooth fracture below the gingival attachment or alveolar bone crest. It is a well-documented clinical method for altering the relation between a non-restorable tooth and its attachment apparatus, elevating sound tooth material from within the alveolar socket to create a ferrule effect which is considered to be crucial for the optimal biomechanica

Repair of a horizontal mid-root fracture accompanied by labial luxation and partial alveolar fracture: a 21-year follow up.

The prognosis of injured teeth involving horizontal mid-root fractures is poor and depends heavily on pulpal vitality, periodontal health and the repositioning of the tooth to its original position. Here, we report the case of an upper right central incisor presenting a horizontal mid-root fracture, complicated by impaction of the coronal fragment in the external alveolar bone, which in turn prevented the repositioning of the tooth fragment. As a consequence, it was necessary to raise a full-thickness flap and perform window-osteotomy to free the coronal fragment and reset the fractured fragme

Assessing tooth mobility before and after miniscrew implantation for diagnosing root contact: a cadaveric animal study.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether miniscrew-root contact can be diagnosed by assessing tooth mobility before and after miniscrew implantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cadaveric pig mandibles were used, with 80 miniscrews placed mesial to the first premolars and distal to the fourth premolars. Maximum insertion torque (MIT) was measured for the first premolar miniscrews. Tooth mobility was assessed before and after implantation, and the Periotest Value difference (PTV-Diff) was calculated. Miniscrew-root distance (MS-R Dist) was measured using computed tomography. Spearman's rank correlations wer
