BACKGROUND: Roemheld (gastro-cardiac) syndrome describes cardiac symptoms precipitated by gastrointestinal pathology, typically gastric distension or hiatal hernia. Foreign body ingestion is common, but retention of long objects such as toothbrushes is rare and usually requires endoscopic removal. We present an unusual case of acute heart failure with restrictive filling pattern and markedly elevated NT-proBNP, in which cardiac symptoms resolved after extraction of two retained toothbrushes from the stomach.
CASE SUMMARY: A 44-year-old woman was admitted for progressive dyspnoea, 6-kg weight

Background and Objectives: Halitosis is common among orthodontic patients, potentially exacerbated by plaque retention around brackets. It was hypothesized that patients using sonic toothbrushes would report lower halitosis impact scores compared to those using traditional or rotative toothbrushes. This study aimed to compare the Halitosis-Associated Life Quality Test (HALT) and Short Form (SF-36) domains among different toothbrush users and to evaluate mouthwash subgroups and "during" vs. "after" appliance removal. Methods: Based on a power calculation (effect size f = 0.30, α = 0.05, 1 - β =

OBJECTIVES: Gingival recessions (GR) are often associated with dentin hypersensitivity (HYP) and can significantly affect patients' oral health-related quality of life. This subgroup-analysis of a previously published study assesses the long-term effects of oscillating-rotating powered (PT) and manual toothbrushes (MT) on HYP in teeth with pre-existing GR and no interproximal attachment loss (RT1) over 36 months.
METHODS: Ninety participants with RT1 were divided into PT-/MT-group (n = 47/n = 43). All participants brushed twice daily with the same fluoride toothpaste. HYP scores were reassess

This article explores the contribution of occupational therapy (OT) to trauma care in the aftermath of the October 7th attacks and the Iron Swords War, with a focus on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It examines how traumatic experiences disrupt occupational identity, daily routines, and overall functioning. Drawing on trauma-informed care principles, the paper outlines OT-based interventions that promote recovery by facilitating engagement in meaningful activities that restore agency, coherence, and purpose. Clinical case examples illustrate the therapeutic role of occupation in stabil

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is the sixth-most common disease worldwide. The oral microbiome composition and its association with Periodontal disease (PD) have been largely explored; however, limited studies have explored the microbial profiles of both oral and toothbrushes in patients with PD. Thus, this study aimed to ascertain the oral and toothbrushes microbial composition in high-altitude populations, hypothesizing that their correlation with periodontal health would differ from those at lower altitudes, potentially indicating links between environmental factors, microbial colonization patte

Dry mouth, caused by decreased salivary gland function and/or weak salivary stimulation, can severely affect oral health in older individuals. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate whether a lip trainer device and sonic toothbrush can improve salivary flow and oral wetness in older patients complaining of dry mouth. Overall, 39 subjects aged ≥60 years who had at least 20 natural teeth were randomly assigned to use a lip trainer device (group P, n = 13) or a sonic toothbrush (group S, n = 13). The subjects who did not experience oral dryness were included as controls (group C; n = 13)
