OBJECTIVE: To report a single institutional experience with urethroplasty outcomes and success rates at long-term follow up.
METHODS: A retrospective review was carried out of all urethroplasties performed by a single surgeon from 2000 to 2010. A total of 347 patients underwent urethroplasty during this time period, of which 227 had minimum 1-year follow-up data available. Demographic, clinical, pathological and outcome data were reviewed. The use of buccal mucosal grafts for the reconstruction of urethral strictures is an established procedure. Because of its robustness, the buccal mucosal graft could also potentially provide an alternative for other indications in reconstructive urology. We report here six consecutive patients who received a buccal mucosal graft for ureteral strictures, glans reconstruction and stoma stenosis. PURPOSE: We recently demonstrated that radiotherapy induced urethral strictures can be successfully managed with urethroplasty. We increased size and followup in our multi-institutional cohort, and evaluated excision and primary anastomosis as treatment for radiotherapy induced urethral strictures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 72 patients from 3 academic institutions treated for radiotherapy induced bulbomembranous strictures. Outcome parameters of successful repair included recurrence, incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

OBJECTIVES: The study is a follow up to two separate studies done in this centre 42 and 20 years ago on the changing pattern of urethral stricture disease(USD). It assesses the aetiology,the general pattern and treatment outcome in our centre.

PURPOSE: We reviewed our experience with anastomotic urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A chart review revealed 168 patients 6 to 82 years old (mean age 38) with at least 6 months of followup (mean 70, range 6 to 291) after anastomotic urethroplasty.
RESULTS: Average stricture length was 1.7 cm. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) on prevention of urethral stricture recurrence after internal urethrotomy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Of 55 men who were randomly selected, 43 completed the investigation. Of these, 21 patients performed CIC weekly for 1 year following Sachse's operation for urethral stricture and 22 patients formed the control group after the same operation. All had an objective examination for urethral stricture every 2 months after surgery.

Clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is used commonly to treat patients with impaired bladder emptying. We treated 6 male patients who were experiencing difficulty with intermittent catheterization. Retrograde urethrography demonstrated stricture of the urethra in all of them and a false passage as well in one patient. Treatment consisted of urethral dilatation using filiform and followers in 4 patients and optical internal urethrotomy in the remaining 2 patients followed by urethral stenting using a 16 Fr. Teflon Foley catheter in all. The stenting Foley catheter was removed after 2 weeks

A questionnaire presented to 79 danish surgical departments showed that about 2,000 urethral strictures are treated in Denmark per annum. These were mainly incised by Sachse's method. 8% of the patients do not have postoperative catheterisation, while the remainder have indwelling catheter from 1-28 days, mainly between 1-3 days. The reasons for the chosen regimes are presented.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Endoluminal treatments are frequently used for male anterior urethral strictures (USs). We aim to summarize the current evidence assessing the clinical implications for each treatment. Details on epidemiology, diagnosis, open surgical management, and follow-up of US are beyond the scope of this paper, and we refer the reader to the full text Guidelines (Lumen et al., 2026) [1].
METHODS: New evidence was identified using a priori criteria. Selected literature was summarized, and recommendations were developed to prioritize clinically important decisions.
