Bi-maxillary advancement surgery: Technique, indications and results.

Esthetic analysis of the face in some patients presenting a dental Class II can reveal the need for maxillo-mandibular advancement surgery. In these cases, mandibular advancement alone would provide a result which was satisfactory from the occlusal viewpoint but esthetically displeasing. Using bi-maxillary advancement, the impact of nasal volume is reduced and the nasolabial relationship is corrected. The sub-mandibular length is increased, thus creating a better-defined cervico-mental angle. This treatment technique involving a prior mandibular procedure has the advantage of restoring patient

TC-TopoRT: Tautomer-consistent and topology-aware retention time prediction for LC-MS metabolite annotation.

Accurate retention time (RT) prediction provides chromatographic evidence complementary to precursor mass and MS/MS spectra in LC-MS metabolomics. Such evidence is particularly valuable for metabolite annotation, where multiple structurally plausible candidates may exhibit similar spectral signatures. Here, we present TC-TopoRT, a tautomer-consistent and topology-aware framework for RT prediction in LC-MS metabolite annotation. TC-TopoRT constructs paired molecular views from the dataset-provided SMILES and a conservative tautomer-standardized representation generated under identity-preserving

Mu or alpha? Source decomposition for social perception analysis.

The sensorimotor mu rhythm is widely used as an electroencephalography (EEG) marker of mirror neuron system activity during action and emotion perception. However, its frequency overlap with occipital-parietal alpha raises concerns that sensor-level measurements over central electrodes may be contaminated by visual alpha activity. Here, we directly compared conventional sensor-level analyses with independent component analysis (ICA)-based source separation to examine how methodological choices affect interpretations of mu dynamics during emotional face perception. Thirty-three participants vie

Structure-Based Prediction of QT Prolongation Risk Using Graph Neural Networks: An Integrative Approach Combining In Vitro hERG Assays and Pharmacovigilance Data.

Drug-induced QT-interval prolongation, a non-specific biomarker of increased risk for Torsades de Pointes (TdP), is a major safety concern in drug development. While in vitro hERG inhibition assays are required for early-phase screening, pharmacovigilance data from sources like the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) provide complementary insights. Integrating these heterogeneous data with molecular structure offers a promising, yet underutilized approach to predict proarrhythmic risk. We developed an interpretable graph neural network (GNN) framework integrating in vitro hERG inhibitio

MLI-DTA: An interpretable multimodal framework with multi-level interactions for drug-target affinity prediction.

Drug-target affinity prediction provides a computational basis for virtual screening and drug repositioning optimization by estimating the binding strength between compounds and target proteins. Existing deep learning methods have evolved from early SMILES/amino acid sequence modeling to graph neural networks and multi-modal fusion. However, there are still three challenges: one-dimensional sequence models struggle to explicitly represent atomic connections and residue interactions; some graph models incorporate molecular or protein contact graphs, but often fail to properly align the semantic

Developing a slow-release permanganate-persulfate composite gel for the in-situ treatment of sulfonamides in groundwater plumes.

A slow-release permanganate (PM) and persulfate (PS) composite gel (P-PGSR) was developed to overcome the blocking effect of amorphous MnO2 generated from PM and the futility of PS without activator in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) of sulfonamides (SAs) in groundwater plumes. Results showed that the release longevity of PM and PS from P-PGSR was lengthened 3-fold more than from powder in a column experiment. Low P-PGSR dosage, permeability of the porous medium and ionic strength facilitated the release efficiencies of PM and PS, which was not fully consistent with the degradation efficiencies

Key Toxic Genes and Mechanisms of Di(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate-Induced Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Multi-Omics Study.

INTRODUCTION: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as the most prevalent chronic liver disease, with di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) potentially exacerbating its progression. The toxicological mechanisms through which DEHP induces NAFLD remain elusive. This study aims to identify critical toxic genes involved in the development of DEHP-induced NAFLD. METHODS: The carcinogenic potential of DEHP was predicted based on its Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System (SMILES) notation. Biomarkers were identified through differential expression analysis, and a nomogram was cons

Management of Gingival Recession of the Maxillary Left Canine Using a Coronally Advanced Buccal Flap and Palatal Connective Tissue Graft.

Gingival recession in the anterior maxillary region presents both functional and esthetic concerns, particularly when it affects the smile zone. Root exposure may lead to dentin hypersensitivity, plaque accumulation, and compromised gingival harmony. Periodontal plastic surgery techniques have been developed to restore gingival coverage and improve soft tissue thickness, demonstrating predictable results with generally favorable and well-documented outcomes. This case report describes the treatment of localized gingival recession affecting the maxillary left canine (tooth #11, Universal Number

Effective Management of a Pregnancy Tumor Using a Soft Tissue Diode Laser: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Introduction: Pregnancy tumors, also known as pyogenic granulomas or granuloma gravidarum, are benign vascular lesions commonly seen in the oral cavity of pregnant women. Though non-cancerous, they tend to grow rapidly, causing bleeding, pain, aesthetic concerns, and functional interference. Their development is linked to hormonal changes during pregnancy and local irritants like plaque or trauma. Traditional surgical removal can lead to discomfort and significant bleeding. This study aims to demonstrate a successful, minimally invasive management of a pregnancy tumor using a soft tissue diode

Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatment Modalities for Interdental Papilla Reconstruction "Black Triangles": An Evidence-Based Review.

BACKGROUND: The interdental papilla plays a vital role in dental and facial aesthetics, as the loss of papilla manifests as unesthetic "black triangles". In recent years, non-surgical approaches such as hyaluronic acid injections, autologous platelet concentrates, laser therapy, and microneedling with vitamin C have emerged as alternatives to technically demanding and unpredictable surgical reconstruction. AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and safety of cosmetic non-surgical treatment modalities for the correction of black triangles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A comprehen

MIF-MAPMS: Enhancing identification of myelin autoantigenic peptides in multiple sclerosis through multimodal information fusion.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) arises from an autoimmune response in which the immune system erroneously targets myelin autoantigens within the central nervous system, leading to myelin degradation and subsequent neurological dysfunction. Identifying myelin autoantigenic peptides (MAPs) is therefore critical for understanding MS pathogenesis and developing targeted therapies; however, conventional experimental approaches remain time-consuming and costly. Thus, computational methods that can perform in silico screening of T cell-specific MAP in MS (MAPMSs) using only peptide sequences are highly desir

Structural insights into molecular and cellular level FXR binding potentials of GW4064 and LY2562175 hybrids by multi in silico modelling analyses.

CONTEXT: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a significant health concern. Existing farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonists like GW4064 and LYS2562175 show poor pharmacokinetics, prompting researchers to develop alternative molecules. This study aims to pinpoint the structural features responsible for exhibiting FXR agonism of a series of hybrid structures of GW4064 and LYS2562175 with improved pharmacokinetic properties which supersede the existing parent ligands. Electronegative components were found to critically influence biological activity on the molecular level, supported b

Modified lip reduction for hypertrophic lip with mucinous degeneration.

BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic lips caused by mucinous degeneration are exceedingly rare and present both aesthetic and functional challenges. Conventional lip reduction techniques primarily target the vermilion, often overlooking hypertrophy of the white lip and deeper tissues, which may result in suboptimal contour correction. METHODS: A 15-year-old male with diffuse upper lip hypertrophy refractory to repeated conservative treatment underwent a modified layered lip reduction procedure. The surgical approach involved excision of redundant vermilion mucosa combined with selective reduction of subc
