[Left unilateral melokinetic apraxia and left dynamic apraxia following partial callosal infarction].

A 69 year-old right-handed man suffered from an infarct in the left anterior cerebral territory's artery, involving the anterior and middle parts of the corpus callosum, and the cingulum. He had a right crural hemiparesis with a grasp reflex of the right hand, and ipsilaterally a melokinetic and a dynamic apraxia. Agility of the left fingers was lost: fast and nimble movements of theses fingers, and repetitive gestures of the left hand were defective. Execution of motor sequences with the left hand was disrupted by a lack of litheness in gesture series. By analogy with unilateral left ideomoto

Supratentorial interhemispheric cysts associated with callosal agenesis: surgical treatment and outcome in 16 children.

Cerebrospinal-fluid-filled interhemispheric cysts associated with callosal agenesis are relatively rare lesions, and have been subject to a varied and confusing terminology. From a pragmatic surgical point of view, we believe that the dorsal III ventricular cyst [35] and the giant interhemispheric cyst [23], although of different embryological origin, can be classified as one group. The most important condition that must be distinguished from interhemispheric cysts is the alobar form of holoprosencephaly. We describe the clinical symptomatology in 16 children who were surgically treated with a

Pattern of development of the callosal transfer of visual information to cortical areas 17 and 18 in the cat.

The aim of this study was to investigate the development of visual callosal transfer in the normally reared cat. Two- to nine-week-old kittens and adults (used as controls) underwent section of the optic chiasm. Three days later, the animals were placed under anesthesia and paralysed; unit activities were recorded from visual cortical areas 17 and 18 and from the white matter in one hemisphere. The units were tested for their responses to visual stimulation of each eye successively. Out of 1036 recorded neurons, 185 could be activated through the eye contralateral to the explored cortex via ca

Absence of population cerebral asymmetries in mice with callosal defects induced by prenatal gamma irradiation.

The development of the corpus callosum of 19 male Swiss mice was disturbed by exposure to a 60Co gamma source on embryonic day 16 with a total dose of 2 Gy (dose rate of 56 to 59 rads/min). At adulthood the animals were perfused with saline followed by formaldehyde and the cerebral hemispheres were weighed and photographed in dorsal, lateral and medial views. Brain asymmetries were evaluated by measurements of hemisphere weight, as well as dorsal and lateral areas. From the measurements of the midsagittal callosal areas, performed on the medial views, 2 subgroups could be identified: one with

Callosal and ipsilateral cortical connections of the body surface representations in SI and SII of tree shrews.

Injections of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) were used to study the connections of the first and second somatosensory areas (SI and SII) in tree shrews. The locations of callosally projecting neurons in SI were determined by placing large injections of HRP in the SI region of one cerebral hemisphere and determining the organization of SI of the other cerebral hemisphere with microelectrode mapping. Many callosally projecting neurons were revealed in lateral SI representing the face, especially the glabrous nose. A sparse scattering of callosally projecting neurons were located more centrally in

[Right hemiasomatognosia and sensation of amputation caused by left subcortical lesion. Role of callosal disconnection].

A 72-year-old right-handed hypertensive man presented with a right brachial monoplegia, and hypesthesia of the right half of the body to touch and pricking, sparing the face. A CT scan 2 weeks later showed a spontaneous hyperdense area corresponding to a left subcortical parietal hematoma. The patient used his spontaneous language to express body image disturbances: intense prolonged feeling of amputation related to the upper limb and foot on the right side, hemiasomatognosia without anosognosia, autotopagnosia. Also associated were a right-sided visual negligence and a more general inability

Glucose-TOR-PDCB signaling restricts cell-to-cell communication through callose deposition.

Plant cells are connected by plasmodesmata (PD), membrane-lined channels that facilitate cell-to-cell transport. Forward genetic screens to uncover regulators of PD transport identified mutants with increased (ise1 to ise4) or decreased (dse1) PD trafficking during embryogenesis. Despite their opposite effects on PD transport, we found that the transcriptional profiles of dse1, ise3, and ise4 were notably similar with one notable exception: the set of genes controlled by the conserved kinase TARGET OF RAPAMYCIN (TOR) and ABI5, a bZIP transcription factor that acts downstream of TOR. We then sh

Screening for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus on Head CT Using Automated Callosal Angle Assessment.

Background/Objectives: Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a treatable cause of gait impairment and fall risk in older adults, yet it remains frequently underdiagnosed. This study aimed to validate an automated measurement of the callosal angle, a recognized imaging marker of NPH, adapted for use on routine head computed tomography (CT). Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 198 patients with probable NPH, confirmed by gait improvement following lumbar tap test, and 198 age- and sex-matched controls presenting with headache and negative head CT findings (mean age 74 ± 7 years; 6

WDR62 controls cortical radial migration and callosal projection of neurons in the developing cerebral cortex.

WD repeat domain 62 (WDR62) was identified as the second most causative gene of autosomal recessive primary microcephaly (MCPH) frequently associated structural abnormalities such as lissencephaly, polymicrogyria as well as hypoplasia of the corpus callosum, however, underlining mechanism behind these abnormality remains unknown. Here we show that either ablation of WDR62 in neural progenitor cells (NPCs) or post-mitotic neurons both impedes cortical neuronal radial migration in the developing brain. WDR62 modulates the transition from multipolar to bipolar states in migrating neurons and ensu

Tubulonodular Pericallosal Lipoma With Callosal Dysgenesis in an Adult Presenting With a Lapse in Consciousness: A Case Report.

Intracranial lipomas are rare congenital anomalies that result from the abnormal development of meningeal tissues, causing the formation of fatty deposits within the intracranial cavity. The pericallosal region is the most frequent site where such lipomas are often associated with structural abnormalities of the corpus callosum. Although many cases remain clinically silent, symptomatic presentations can include seizures, headaches, cognitive impairment, or unusual neurobehavioral findings. We present the case of a 30-year-old woman who was evaluated in the emergency department after a motor ve

NPR1 suppresses Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus-induced callose and reactive oxygen species accumulation.

Huanglongbing (HLB), a devastating citrus disease caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), triggers persistent immune activation marked by excessive callose deposition and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, which impairs phloem function. This maladaptive response has led to HLB being described as a "pathogen-triggered immune disease". Overexpression of the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) NONEXPRESSOR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED GENES1 (AtNPR1) gene, a master regulator of systemic acquired resistance (SAR), confers robust HLB tolerance in susceptible citrus varieties, with tr

Prenatal evaluation, diagnosis and management of fetal corpus callosal abnormalities: international Delphi consensus.

OBJECTIVE: The corpus callosum (CC) is an interhemispheric structure that facilitates communication between the two cerebral hemispheres. Anomalies of the CC are frequent and associated with a wide spectrum of altered neurodevelopmental outcomes. However, variability in diagnostic criteria and the lack of standardized management strategies create challenges for clinicians and anxiety for expectant parents. This study aimed to establish an international consensus on the prenatal evaluation, diagnosis and management of fetal CC abnormalities using a structured Delphi methodology. METHODS: A thr

FLAIR Hyperintensities in the Anterior Part of the Callosal Splenium in the Elderly Population: A Large Cohort Study.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Although hyperintensity in the anterior portion of the callosal splenium on FLAIR (aCS-hyperintensity) is a common finding in elderly adults, no previous studies have examined the clinical significance. In this large elderly population study, we aimed to investigate the associations of aCS-hyperintensity with vascular risk factors, cognitive decline, and other MRI measurements. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 2110 participants (median age, 69 years; 61.1% females) who underwent 3 T MRI. The participants were grouped as 215 with mild cogniti

Corpus Callosal Hematoma by a Trivial Trauma Causing Concussion with "Blood at the Center" Radiological Sign.

Hematoma of corpus callosum is a very rare phenomenon and is caused by severe trauma to head. Most common traumatic injury to corpus callosum is seen in diffuse axonal injury in form of small hemorrhagic foci and associated prolonged unconsciousness. Trivial trauma causing well defined corpus callosal hematoma in absence of coagulation defects or neurological deficits in conscious patient has not been reported in the literature. We present such a unique case and the review the corpus callosal hematoma due to trauma.
