Development of a research preparedness checklist for public health organisations: a Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Building research capacity requires organisations to provide resources and infrastructure that meet the needs of their researchers. Periodic organisational self-assessment should be undertaken to reflect the current research support available and to guide future organisational planning. This study aimed to develop a checklist to help health organisations assess research preparedness. METHODS: A draft checklist of research preparedness items was constructed, with 64 items grouped into seven themes, based on existing tools and previous research. The Directors of Research (or delegat

Construction and content validation of a checklist for effective communication of nursing care to newborns.

OBJECTIVES: to construct and validate the content of a checklist to support communication of nursing care for newborns admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit. METHODS: a methodological study conducted in two stages. The first involved three dimensions: theoretical, grounded in an integrative literature review; operational, with the development of the initial version of the checklist; and empirical, carried out through the "Plan, Do, Check, Act" cycle with the participation of 15 nurses from a neonatal intensive care unit. The second stage consisted of content validation by 19 experts, usi

The VAccine cLinical study reporting gUidEline: the VALUE checklist with explanation and elaboration.

BACKGROUND: The number of clinical vaccine studies published each year is large and increasing as vaccinology and biotechnology advance. CONSORT and STROBE provide reporting guidelines for randomised clinical trials and observational studies, but neither addresses vaccine-specific items that should be included in vaccine study reports. Thus, there is a need to develop a guideline for reporting studies of a vaccine's characteristics such as immunogenicity, efficacy, effectiveness, reactogenicity, and safety. METHODS: Using the EQUATOR Network's "Guidance for Developers of Health Research Repor

Development and Implementation of a One Health Point of Entry Checklist in Iraq and Jordan.

INTRODUCTION: Points of entry (POEs) serve as critical hubs in national security efforts, facilitating trade and travel while mitigating threats such as transboundary zoonotic diseases. Given the multisectoral nature of One Health (OH) challenges at POEs, there is a need for a systematic tool to assess preparedness and response capabilities. Existing evaluation frameworks, such as the International Health Regulations (IHR) Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and the World Organisation for Animal Health Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway, lack comprehensive OH-specific guidance ta

Criterion Validity of the Psychopathy Checklist in Legal Contexts: An Updated Meta-Analysis.

The Psychopathy Checklist (PCL) scales are the most widely used instruments in the assessment of psychopathic personality traits. This updated meta-analysis represents the most extensive synthesis of the PCL scales' criterion validity regarding recidivism and institutional outcomes in legal contexts. According to the results, the PCL total score and Factor 2 criterion validity were moderate and significantly higher for Factor 2 than the total score. The criterion validity of Factor 1 was small and significantly lower than Factor 2 and the total score. The criterion validity of the PCL total sc

Advances in Microvascular Reconstruction of the Orbit and Beyond: Considerations and a Checklist for Decision-Making.

This paper aims to discuss the microvascular reconstruction of the orbit and adjacent regions and to propose a checklist to aid the reconstructive surgeon in this challenging undertaking. The discussion is based on a literature review that includes 32 retrospective case series, 5 case reports published in the last 34 years in PubMed, and 3 textbook chapters. Additionally, it relies on the senior author's expertise, described in a case series, and two case reports published elsewhere. Classifications and treatment algorithms on microvascular orbit reconstruction generally disregard patient-rela

Implementation of a High-Level Isolation Unit Readiness Checklist in the Irish Setting.

A high-level isolation unit (HLIU) is a specially designed biocontainment unit for suspected or confirmed high-consequence infectious diseases. For most HLIUs, maintaining readiness during times of inactivity is a challenge. In this case study, we describe a checklist approach to assess HLIU readiness to rapidly operate upon activation. This checklist includes readiness criteria in several domains, such as infrastructure, human resources, and material supplies, that are required to safely activate the unit at any time. The checklist audit tool was derived from a novel activation readiness chec

A reassessment of Jackson's checklist and identification of two Down syndrome sub-phenotypes.

Down syndrome (DS) is characterised by several clinical features including intellectual disability (ID) and craniofacial dysmorphisms. In 1976, Jackson and coll. identified a checklist of signs for clinical diagnosis of DS; the utility of these checklists in improving the accuracy of clinical diagnosis has been recently reaffirmed, but they have rarely been revised. The purpose of this work is to reassess the characteristic phenotypic signs and their frequencies in 233 DS subjects, following Jackson's checklist. 63.77% of the subjects showed more than 12 signs while none showed less than 5, co

Development of a checklist for the detection of degenerative joint disease-associated pain in cats.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to develop an evidence-based, clinically expedient checklist to identify cats likely to have degenerative joint disease (DJD)-associated pain. METHODS: Data were compiled from previously conducted studies that employed a standardized subjective outcome measure consisting of a series of questions. These studies included a prevalence study (with DJD non-informed owners) and therapeutic trials (with DJD-informed owners). For each cat, and each question, response scores were converted to 'impaired' and 'unimpaired'. Cats were categorized as 'DJD pain' and 'no

TECH-VER: A Verification Checklist to Reduce Errors in Models and Improve Their Credibility.

BackgroundIn health economic literature, checklists or best practice recommendations on model validation/credibility always declare verification of the programmed model as a fundamental step, such as 'is the model implemented correctly and does the implementation accurately represent the conceptual model?' However, to date, little operational guidance for the model verification process has been given. In this study, we aimed to create an operational checklist for model users or reviewers to verify the technical implementation of health economic decision analytical models and document their ver

Radiology of acute mastoiditis and its complications: a pictorial review and interpretation checklist.

BACKGROUND: Mastoiditis is an otological emergency, and cross-sectional imaging has a role in the diagnosis of complications and surgical planning. Advances in imaging technology are becoming increasingly sophisticated and, by the same token, the ability to accurately interpret findings is essential. METHODS: This paper reviews common and rare complications of mastoiditis using case-led examples. A radiologist-derived systematic checklist is proposed, to assist the ENT surgeon with interpreting cross-sectional imaging in emergency mastoiditis cases when the opinion of a head and neck radiolog

Repeatability of a checklist for evaluating cab design characteristics of heavy mobile equipment.

Risk factors associated with the development of musculoskeletal discomfort and disorders during the operation of heavy mobile equipment include whole-body vibration and awkward and sustained joint postures of the shoulders, neck, and trunk. Cab design may influence awkward postures of the joints, and task duration may influence duration of exposure to awkward and static postures and whole-body vibration. To reduce exposure to risk factors related to the interface between cab design and task, it may be necessary for manufacturers to address cab design. This study assessed the repeatability of a

The Japanese version of the Multiple Affect Adjective Checklist-Revised: development and validation.

In order to develop a Japanese version of the Multiple Affect Adjective Checklist-Revised (MAACL-R), the 66 scored adjectives were translated into Japanese and translated back into English as recommended by Werner and Campbell (1971). Confirmatory factor analyses evidenced the existence of five first-order factors (i.e., the anxiety, depression, hostility, positive affect, and sensation-seeking factors) and the two second-order factors (i.e., the dysphoric and pleasant affect factors) underlying the response to the Japanese MAACL-R. Internal consistency ranged from .73 to .91, and four-week re

The validation of the Trauma Symptom Checklist-40 (TSC-40) in a sample of inpatients.

This study examined the construct validity of the Trauma Symptom Checklist-40 (TSC-40; Elliot & Briere, 1992) in a sample of 130 female psychiatric inpatients. Consistent with other findings, the TSC-40 displayed criterion-related validity in relation to childhood sexual abuse. Survivors of sexual abuse obtained significantly higher scores than those without such a history on the overall TSC-40 and on each of the six subscales, except the Depression subscale. Convergent validity of three subscales was demonstrated, and divergent validity on the total TSC-40 and each of its subscales was establ
