Cluster analysis defines four groups of Japanese patients with adult-onset Still's disease.

OBJECTIVES: To define groups and characterize differences in the prognosis of patients with adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD). METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study. Patients with AOSD were grouped using hierarchical unsupervised cluster analysis according to age, sex, clinical features, and laboratory data. The primary endpoints were overall survival and drug-free remission rate. RESULTS: A total of 153 patients with AOSD were placed into four clusters. Those in Cluster 1 had a young onset, tended to be female, and had fewer complications and moderate ferritin concentrations.

Clinical application of cluster analysis in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

AIMS: Early prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is still a huge challenge for patients and clinicians. Recently, a novel cluster-based diabetes classification was proposed which may offer the possibility to solve this problem. In this study, we report our performance of cluster analysis of individuals newly diagnosed with T2DM, our exploration of each subtype's clinical characteristics and medication treatment, and the comparison carried out concerning the risk for diabetes complications and comorbidities among subtypes by adjusting for influencing factors. We hope to p

Healthy Life Habits in Caregivers of Children in Vulnerable Populations: A Cluster Analysis.

Intervention programs aimed at mitigating the effects of chronic noncommunicable disease (CNDs) focus on promoting healthy lifestyle habits (HLH), especially in the early stages of life. Because of this, different typologies of caregivers have been identified according to HLH during middle childhood and adolescence. However, the available studies have focused on aspects such as nutrition, physical activity, and rest, ignoring other HLHs that are equally important for children's well-being. Likewise, few studies address HLH during the first five years of life and how caregivers affect children'

Understanding sprint phase-specific training stimuli: a cluster analysis approach to overload conditions.

INTRODUCTION: This study analyzed the impact of various overload conditions on sprint performance compared to free sprinting, aiming to identify the loading scenarios that most closely replicate the mechanics of unresisted sprints across the full acceleration spectrum. While velocity-based training methods have gained popularity, their applicability is limited to the plateau phase of sprinting. METHODS: To address this limitation, we employed cluster analysis to identify scenarios that best replicate the mechanical characteristics of free sprinting across various overload conditions. Sixteen

Characterization of systemic lupus erythematosus subtypes using cluster analysis: insights from lymphocyte subpopulations.

BACKGROUND: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease, in which lymphocyte subsets were dysregulated. Incorporating lymphocyte subpopulations in cluster analysis offers a pathway for personalized and precise treatment, targeting specific abnormalities for more effective management. METHODS: We conducted Gaussian clustering analysis on clinical data, serological data, urine test results, and lymphocyte subpopulations for SLE patients hospitalized from September 2008 to December 2019. RESULTS: A total of 1863 SLE patients from Xi'Jing Hospital were included. After excl

Cluster analysis of angiotensin biomarkers to identify antihypertensive drug treatment in population studies.

BACKGROUND: The recent progress in molecular biology generates an increasing interest in investigating molecular biomarkers as markers of response to treatments. The present work is motivated by a study, where the objective was to explore the potential of the molecular biomarkers of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) to identify the undertaken antihypertensive treatments in the general population. Population-based studies offer an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of treatments in real-world scenarios. However, lack of quality documentation, especially when electronic health rec

Cluster analysis of flowcytometric immunophenotyping with extended T cell subsets in suspected immunodeficiency.

BACKGROUND: Patients with immunodeficiencies commonly experience diagnostic delays resulting in morbidity. There is an unmet need to identify patients earlier, especially those with high risk for complications. Compared to immunoglobulin quantification and flowcytometric B cell subset analysis, expanded T cell subset analysis is rarely performed in the initial evaluation of patients with suspected immunodeficiency. The simultaneous interpretation of multiple immune variables, including lymphocyte subsets, is challenging. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic value of cluster analyses of immun

Spatiotemporal gait patterns in individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation: A hierarchical cluster analysis.

Gait pattern classification in individuals with lower-limb amputation could help in developing personalized prosthetic prescriptions and tailored gait rehabilitation. However, systematic classifications of gait patterns in this population have been scarcely explored. This study aimed to determine whether the gait patterns in individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation (UTFA) can be clustered into homogeneous subgroups using spatiotemporal parameters across a range of walking speeds. We examined spatiotemporal gait parameters, including step length and cadence, in 25 individuals with UT

Integrated bioinformatic analysis of miR-15a/16-1 cluster network in cervical cancer.

The miR-15a/16-1 cluster is abnormally expressed in cervical cancer (CC) tissues and plays a vital role in cervical carcinogenesis. We aimed to evaluate the miR-15a/16-1 expression in healthy and cancerous cervical tissues, identify the associated networks, and to test its prognostic significance. miR-15a/16-1-MC expressions were analyzed in TCGA-CESC datasets by UALCAN, GEPIA2, and Datasetviewer. miR-15a/16-1 validated targets were extracted from mirTarBase and in silico functional analysis of the target genes were performed using WebGestalt. The interaction networks were constructed by the m

Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension phenotypes determined by cluster analysis from the COMPERA registry.

The term idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is used to categorize patients with pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension of unknown origin. There is considerable variability in the clinical presentation of these patients. Using data from the Comparative, Prospective Registry of Newly Initiated Therapies for Pulmonary Hypertension, we performed a cluster analysis of 841 patients with IPAH based on age, sex, diffusion capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO; <45% vs ≥45% predicted), smoking status, and presence of comorbidities (obesity, hypertension, coronary heart disease, an

Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Proposal of Classification in Two Endotypes with Two-Step Cluster Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory, recurrent disorder of the pilosebaceous unit. Currently, several attempts have been made to classify this disease according to its pathogenesis and clinical manifestations. We attempted at classifying 103 patients using two-step cluster analysis. METHODS: The final model included body mass index, C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum concentrations of IL-1, IL-6, IL-17, and IL-10 as continuous variables, and sex, later/early onset, anterior/posterior lesion sites, presence/absence of sinus tracts, nodules and abscesses, pos
